I don't care much for Valentine (mostly his voice), but I like Hershiser and whoever the pbp guy is better than Miller/Morgan.

Disagree, Phil. I loved Morgan. Loved loved loved the Jon/Joe team. I would have much rather had them as an every night pair than Jerry and Don. They're my favorite two man booth I've ever heard. And it's not particularly close.

While they didn't hit anything especially hard that inning, they probably should've done better than one run there. They're making Garcia work at least.

It was only for a split-second. When Martin came off the base again, for longer, Scutaro had already swept the tag and was looking at the umpire.

Sure, MCoA. I'm not saying it was a terrible call. But if you're going to look at it in super slow motion and call Scutaro an idiot, at least notice that he really DID have him out.

Schilling really knows and loves baseball. I'm actually rather enjoying him in the booth - I liked his little disquisition on throwing fastballs in fastball counts.

You know what though? Schilling is a really great commentator. He'll tell you stuff about umps and managers and pitching coaches you don't often hear.

None of those things make one a great commentator. You have to have a great voice, and Schilling doesn't have it. I'd read articles by him, but I don't want him coming through my speakers.

Pedroia's added walks have brought him to a truly elite levels.

Watching Pedroia and Youkilis develop, you wonder about the scouting category of "upside". How valuable is that category if Youkilis and Pedroia can become MVP candidates?

Yeah, that was my point. If a guy has skills to play in MLB, to what degree can anyone really tell that a player has a ceiling on what they can reasonably accomplish?

I can buy "ceiling" with guys who may not even make it out of AA, but once a guy's in the majors, I don't know how much utility the category has.

Lucky, lucky, lucky Josh. That was pretty close to a straight-up cookie he served to Swisher. It was outside just enough that Swisher should have taken it to left-center, but I wouldn't want to see him throw a pitch like that to anyone else.
