The 2001 Mariners won their ALDS matchup.
   2. Mattbert Posted: September 09, 2005 at 06:53 PM (#1607879)
Go Angels.
   3. More Dewey is Always Good Posted: September 09, 2005 at 07:00 PM (#1607893)
Why is a Red Sox fan rooting for the Angels?
   4. Mattbert Posted: September 09, 2005 at 07:09 PM (#1607910)
Spite.

Go Yankees.
   5. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 09, 2005 at 07:24 PM (#1607952)
Vince will appreciate this poll.
   6. Sean McNally Posted: September 09, 2005 at 07:40 PM (#1607996)
Podsednik is at least as qualified as Mike Brown.
   7. VG Posted: September 09, 2005 at 08:43 PM (#1608187)
I just want the White Sox to have the best record in the AL. And it wouldn't hurt to watch the other playoff contenders squirm all the way to the end of the regular season.

Carl Pohlad doesn't need to squirm anymore, however.
   8. 1k5v3L Posted: September 09, 2005 at 08:49 PM (#1608205)
Looking at the BoSox record at home vs. road, the White Sox would be wise to clinch home field all through the AL playoffs.
   9. Urban Faber Posted: September 09, 2005 at 08:52 PM (#1608215)
Red Sox fans want the Angels/A's runner-up to get the wild card, don't they?

I'd read the poll but just scrolling over the link shuts down my Chatter.

The Sox have already lost more games than the 2001 Mariners. As long as they aren't imitating the 2000 White Sox from here on in, I'm happy.
   10. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 09, 2005 at 08:59 PM (#1608234)
Red Sox fans want the Angels/A’s runner-up to get the wild card, don’t they?

I want the A's to make the playoffs, but I don't particularly care how, and I don't particularly care about the Angels.
   11. Urban Faber Posted: September 09, 2005 at 09:00 PM (#1608238)
Or the Indians, perhaps. Just not that other team.
   12. Joe Cowley's #1 MVP choice Posted: September 09, 2005 at 09:11 PM (#1608275)
I hope they don't imitate any White Sox team in the past, say, 87 years or so, for obvious reasons of course. Let's break the franchise win mark of 100, set 88 years ago and then do the other big thing we did that year, win the World Series. That would be nice.
   13. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 09, 2005 at 09:41 PM (#1608384)
If I wasn't a White Sox fan, I'd be rooting for Oakland to win the West and Cleveland to win the Wildcard. That Cleveland team is a lot of fun to watch.

I'm still hoping for the first-round matchup with Anahiem (so long as we get there), just 'cause I think they're our best matchup.
   14. More Dewey is Always Good Posted: September 09, 2005 at 09:50 PM (#1608421)
I'm having a hard time imagining the Sox getting past the first round, myself, but that's because I've never seen it happen, not because I don't think it possible. It's really hard to be both optimistic and a White Sox fan simultaneously.
   15. VG Posted: September 09, 2005 at 10:17 PM (#1608513)
Not impossible, though, JRE.
   16. More Dewey is Always Good Posted: September 09, 2005 at 10:21 PM (#1608523)
No, not impossible.

I've just been burned too many times to get too excited right now.
   17. Urban Faber Posted: September 09, 2005 at 10:32 PM (#1608549)
The goal is to win one home game in the playoffs.

I'd kinda like to see Cleveland make it, as long as they don't pass us ... and even then, I'd accept the wild card.
   18. VG Posted: September 09, 2005 at 10:58 PM (#1608582)
The goal is to win one home game in the playoffs.

That's goal No. 3 to me.

1. Division
2. Home field
3. Win home playoff game
4. Win division series
5. Win ALCS
6. ???????
7. Win World Series
8. Profit
   19. Athletic Supporter is USDA certified lean Posted: September 09, 2005 at 10:59 PM (#1608583)
Let's go White Sox.

Friends, the A's are toast without their many injured players. They aren't winning any wild card. Their only chance of getting into the playoffs is if they can scrape out a .500 record, win 3 out of 4 against Anaheim, and have the Angels struggle otherwise. It could happen. Hopefully starting today. After this weekend, the Angels have 13 games with also-rans, 10 at home, while the A's play 10 straight against Cleveland and Boston (on the road) and Minnesota (at home.)

A's need to pick up at least one game somehow this weekened, because in those remaining 13 games before the 4-game set, it's hard to see them not losing at least two games. Then win 3 out of 4, then manage somehow to pick up a game in the final three-game set. That's the plan.
   20. 1k5v3L Posted: September 09, 2005 at 11:03 PM (#1608592)
in those remaining 13 games before the 4-game set, it’s hard to see them not losing at least two games.

Yup, no way the A's go better than 11-2...
   21. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 09, 2005 at 11:47 PM (#1608701)
Thank God Larry Young isn't umpiring this game.

Adam Kennedy gets the night off against the lefty, and Zach Sorensen gets the start. So there's like three easy outs for the ChiSox.
   22. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 09, 2005 at 11:48 PM (#1608708)
I am shocked to discover that Pablo Ozuna is still in baseball.
   23. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 09, 2005 at 11:52 PM (#1608724)
Tonight is "half way to St. Patrick's Day" at USCF. Somebody at another board posted that the Sox will be wearing uni's with green pinstripes and green hats, which will be auctioned off at a later date, but I can't find comfirmation of this.
   24. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:06 AM (#1608766)
Why does MLB Audio deny me my local radiocast? Who are these fools talking on behalf of the ChiSox? I don't trust them.
   25. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:09 AM (#1608778)
That green is really messing with my mind. It's as if Ozzie Guillen bathed his team in gamma radiation and got them all riled up to create some extra power. Or something.
   26. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:10 AM (#1608789)
I can't tell if these Sox announcers just labeled Bengie a "double play threat" or a "triple play threat."
   27. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:11 AM (#1608792)
Hey, that's offense! The Angels have an OFFENSE! Because you couldn't tell by their run output the last few weeks.
   28. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:15 AM (#1608813)
I fear that these "runs" may confuse Ace Washburn's left-handed mind.
   29. Urban Faber Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:16 AM (#1608819)
Well, they've won division titles and had the home field in 2000. So that's been done. Now they have to move past that.

I kinda wish McCarthy was still in the rotation.
   30. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:17 AM (#1608823)
You can hang a star on that one!
   31. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:18 AM (#1608826)
They aren’t winning any wild card.

You're god damn right they aren't.
   32. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:36 AM (#1608883)
Buehrle sounds like he's in control.

Roomer™ said Konerko was streaking for third base, tagging up. Doubt it, unless he removed his clothes during his lead-off.

But we probably would've heard more about that.
   33. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:38 AM (#1608887)
And it sounds like our hitting with RISP is Sox-riffic too.

I am shocked to discover that Pablo Ozuna is still in baseball.

He stole home yesterday.
   34. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:41 AM (#1608907)
I am shocked to discover that people still steal home.
   35. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:44 AM (#1608916)
That's why he's the Secret Weapon™.
   36. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:46 AM (#1608920)
I have my green cap on.
   37. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:49 AM (#1608932)
¡Bueno, Juan!
   38. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:50 AM (#1608935)
I don't own a green cap, sadly.

Blum is hitting .118 as a righty. I didn't think he could get any worse, but hey.
   39. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:50 AM (#1608939)
Nice play by Quinlan. Damnit.
   40. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:50 AM (#1608942)
Wow, diving stop by Quinlan! Usually, sharply hit balls catch him, not the other way around.
   41. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:51 AM (#1608945)
He was robbed. Or Robbbed.
   42. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:54 AM (#1608950)
That wasn't even close to a check swing around.
   43. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:54 AM (#1608951)
Yay RISP hitting!
   44. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:55 AM (#1608954)
Theirs your gift back Angels fans. You can quit whining about Larry Young now.
   45. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:55 AM (#1608958)
Boy, a lot of guys carry the bat a lot farther over the plate than that and don't get rung up. He didn't go around. That's not a very good call or good umpiring. At least go to first on it. WIth Molina having to move around on the ball in the dirt, I'm not so sure the home plate umpire had a good look anyway.
   46. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:56 AM (#1608961)
Theirs... LOL
   47. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:57 AM (#1608967)
Wow.

That was the suckiest call that ever sucked.
   48. Urban Faber Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:58 AM (#1608970)
Keeping Chatter up is almost impossible tonight. Shuts me down randomly.

Have they done this halfway/St. Pat's promotion before?
   49. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:58 AM (#1608972)
I bet Harrelson is going on and on about it.
   50. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:59 AM (#1608976)
They did it last year Red, though I don't recall them wearing the green pinstripes.
   51. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:00 AM (#1608979)
They did it last year, Red, right on Sept. 17, I think, but I don't think they wore the green pinstripes. Maybe just the caps.

There's a pretty sizable segment of the fan base that would probably go for these unis on a permanent basis.
   52. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:01 AM (#1608980)
Try Firefox if you don't already have it, Red. Otherwise Chatter will crash like mad.
   53. Urban Faber Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:02 AM (#1608983)
OK, then it makes more sense. The fact that it's the 9th had thrown me, but if they did on the 17th then brought it back but moved it because the schedule dictated it ... that's fine.

Otherwise they could have had "Salute to Pearl Harbor" two nights ago.
   54. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:02 AM (#1608984)
Crap. I owe Cheat a Coke.
   55. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:04 AM (#1608995)
Otherwise they could have had “Salute to Pearl Harbor” two nights ago.

If they were home next Thursday, they could have "Salute to V-J Day" ... but maybe that wouldn't go over so well Iguchi.

For a Sox game, there are some good-looking women behind the third-base dugout.
   56. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:05 AM (#1608996)
Konerko and Uribe should bat back-to-back. They're the only two hitters who even have a clue at the plate right now.
   57. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:06 AM (#1609002)
These ChiSox radio guys claim The Legs didn't see the ball of the bat there. True? Did it look like he had a bad read?
   58. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:07 AM (#1609003)
Dye has been pretty hot lately. I agree with what PH said the other night (I think it was PH) that Rowand and Dye should be flipped, at least. Cheat, maybe you posted those slugging percentages the other day. I agree with someone!
   59. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:09 AM (#1609012)
BHW, he wasn't even close to catching that ball, and it did hang up quite a bit. I don't think it was catchable anyway.

Well, maybe Rowand gets it. ;)
   60. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:09 AM (#1609015)
I was for flipping Dye, though I may not have suggested that first. I did post the slugging percentages.

I wanna see Marlon™ here.

I wanna see Marlon™ here.

And ... your wish is granted!

   72. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:14 AM (#1609045)
That's it. Game over.

What a nightmare this road trip is turning out to be.
   73. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:14 AM (#1609047)
Rooney, shut up. I love Your eBay, and I'd still trade him in a heartbeat for Jhonny Peralta.

Alright, Blummer.

You know they're on fire when Blum does something.
   77. Urban Faber Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:17 AM (#1609058)
Even the pickoff attempts are working out for the Sox in this inning.
   78. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:17 AM (#1609061)
And Blum keeps doing things.

I have understood maybe three posts out of the last 30.
   81. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:19 AM (#1609069)
Secret Weapon™ expands the strike zone a bit, to say the least. Nice inning though. There was something for everyone -- a walk, three extra-base hits and a productive out.

There were plenty of Rounding Base Initiatives that inning.

Normally I'd feel comfortable with Burly staked to that many runs, but not as of late.
   84. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:22 AM (#1609082)
This should explain a lot Black Hawk.

Your eBay is Jack Keefe speak for Uribe.
   85. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:22 AM (#1609083)
So...yeah.
   86. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:22 AM (#1609085)
This Wiki link may help, BHW.

Damnit, Buehrle. Of course, Guillen will let him pitch through the seventh no matter what.
   87. Andere Richtingen Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:22 AM (#1609086)
What a nightmare this road trip is turning out to be.

They went 1-2 against a good team on the road, and this game is far from over.
   88. Urban Faber Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:23 AM (#1609091)
Wha' happened there?
   89. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:24 AM (#1609098)
"We're gonna root root root root White Sox."

   91. Urban Faber Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:25 AM (#1609104)
I have no idea what happened there. Figgins probably would have stolen second anyway though.
   92. VG Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:26 AM (#1609107)
They called a balk on Buehrle? What the ####?

I mean, that's not just a judgment call--he just had no clue what the #### was going on.
   96. Los Angeles Waterloo of Black Hawk Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:27 AM (#1609118)
I'll have to check out the Wiki explanation later; the time has come to go home ...

Buehrle is just up, up, up, up, up, up.
   98. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:28 AM (#1609122)
Now that Buehrle's Cy Young campaign is effectively over, how's about we give McCarthy regular work the rest of the way?
   99. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:28 AM (#1609129)
Buehrle is laying it in there...

3 first pitch hits this inning.
