Who can stop the Greatest American Hero?

Nobody in this game can stop him, because Brian N. Anderson will be in Chicago where the White Sox host the Royals.
   2. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 07, 2005 at 08:59 PM (#1602927)
You're damn right, Vince.
   3. VG Posted: September 07, 2005 at 09:01 PM (#1602933)
Ozzie Guillen, however, does have the power to stop TGAH™.
   4. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 07, 2005 at 09:02 PM (#1602934)
The answer is Johan Santana, Randy Johnson, and BRadke.

The incorrect answer is King Felix.

ANN @ BOS

Reminds me of one of my favorite T-shirts: Ann Arbor is a whore!
   6. Jay Seaver Posted: September 07, 2005 at 09:12 PM (#1602967)
I believe the proper term is "The Greatest Hero In American History™".
   7. Mikαεl Posted: September 07, 2005 at 09:19 PM (#1602987)
Thanks for the correction, Jay.

However, I must note that it is Yankeefans who use the "TM" sign. In Sox chatter, we simply set our genius free, to all who might come upon it. We are BTF and Bill James, they Prospectus. We are freedom and light, they are capitalist running dog lackeys.

Fixed.

ANN @ BOS - Bronson versus Ervin (not a manly name)

A guy named Ervin who played for a SoCal team was 2-1 against Boston in the Finals back in the 1980s.
   10. Mikαεl Posted: September 07, 2005 at 10:08 PM (#1603082)
And that guy, magical though his playing was, had a wussy name.

Also, I prefer "Johan the Lesser" for tonight's starter.

Also, I'll be at the game tonight. I think that something like 80% of Millar's homers have occured with at least one of the ST meet-up guys in attendance. So, I think tonight would be a smart night for Tito to buck the numbers, go with his gut, and stick Millar at first base batting fourth, if not leadoff.

Go ahead. Stop Ortiz if you can. You'll still have the rest of the line-up to deal with.

that's the list of games that Darren, meetup, Chris P, etc. have been at...Millar has hit most of his homers in those.

   18. covelli chris p Posted: September 07, 2005 at 11:17 PM (#1603249)
the good news is that wright isn't very good at pitching.

Manny often seems like he's going to crush the ball the opposite way and they're just foul, is he just a bit late?
   23. Joel W Posted: September 07, 2005 at 11:26 PM (#1603284)
that is to say, is he late compared to normal?
   24. Phil Coorey. Posted: September 07, 2005 at 11:26 PM (#1603286)
Great, it could be one of those games...

I got my kickball league schedule today. Should be a good season.

And if anyone in the area wants to play, games are Sundays, 2-4pm at the Fens. There's still time to sign up!

I don't like that Ervin has 40 pitches through 2 innings. We need to keep our bullpen out of this as much as possible.
   47. Phil Coorey. Posted: September 07, 2005 at 11:53 PM (#1603392)

Our bullpen has been terrible for at least a month now. Scot Shields had a 2.53 ERA before the All Star Break, 3.71 with six losses since. K-Rod was 2.20 before, 3.74 after. Donnelly was 3.55 before, 4.50 after.

Why the #### is DaVanon playing like Finley?

ERAs of significant Angel relivers since August 1:

K-Rod: 3.86
Donnelly: 6.10
Shields: 6.14

And those are the good guys. Kelvim Escobar won't pitch today, as he might have to start on Saturday. Esteban Yan sucks. Kevin Gregg is mediocre (a 4.44 ERA since the break). Our LOOGY hasn't had an ERA below 4.50 since 2001.

This game is over. Even if we catch up, there's no one to hold you guys down.

Shields was definitely overworked early in the season. He has been tangibly worse in the second half of both 2004 and 2005, and pitched over 100 innings last season, and has already pitched 67 games this year (compared to 60 last season). Our bullpen got a lot shallower when Troy Percival left (not that we should have kept him), and no real replacements were made -- Esteban Yan and Bret Prinz were never serious solutions, esp. as Prinz got injured (and was just released).

6 runs. The Angels have scored 6 runs in a game just 3 times in the last 4 weeks. This game is so over.

   85. Phil Coorey. Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:46 AM (#1603530)
Bases loaded for Ortiz he hit a single and Cora and DAmon scored. (Damon was a bees dick from being Sveumed)

Manny hit into a double play, however Trot came out first pitch swinging and landed one of the monster scoring another run.

Cora...yes cora hit a stand up triple scoring baroo from first then damon bought him home with a sac fly.

It appears that Tito thought that Nixon vs. Christianson was better than Kapler vs. Jones . . . and I agree (as if that mattered)! Tito refuses to be out managed this game. Nice.

Of the Sox starting rotation, only Schilling did not pitch 8 innings in his last outing, counting tonight. And Schilling pitched into the 7th for the first time.

Nice rested bullpen, indeed.

And, for the record, I've been to about a dozen games this year. Other than the meetup day, I haven't witnessed a Millar HR. I have tickets to 9/17, 9/18, 10/1 and 10/2 left. Not sure what to expect - is the Sox Therapy effect stronger than the villageidiom effect?
   96. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:34 AM (#1603716)
Conclusion: villageidiom is irrelevant and was just an accessory to the events of June 4.
   97. villageidiom Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:35 AM (#1603722)
Because of last night's results, the projection for the final weekend shifted. The Yanks would come to Boston one game down with three to play. A loss tonight for the Yanks - regardless of what the Sox do - would make it two down with three to play.

I live for this.
   98. Phil Coorey. Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:35 AM (#1603724)
I don't know. The villageidiom effect is pretty powerfull...
