Lineups:

Athletics:

A bunch of world beaters

Red Sox:

A bunch of no talent ass-clowns.

I'm not sure how they won yesterday since I wasn't here to badmouth them. Any ideas?
   3. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:11 PM (#4121142)
Well, according to the team records listed above yesterday's game didn't even happen.
   4. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:11 PM (#4121143)
Also, I don't think that shtick will work tonight. No one can take you seriously if you call the Athletics line-up a bunch of world beaters.
   5. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:13 PM (#4121146)
Brandon Inge is ######' ripped. Damn.
   6. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4121156)
The A's...don't hit. That they scored 6 against Boston last night is bad news for Boston. Too many walks to guys they should be going after with strikes down the middle, like Weeks and Barton.
   7. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:22 PM (#4121158)
Man, Doubront is SOOO much better than Bard.
   8. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:22 PM (#4121159)
Gammons brings a lot of excitement to the broadcast, doesn't he?
   9. L. M. Gumby Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:29 PM (#4121168)
Strike six!!

I for one will welcome our robo ump overlords.

The Hawaiian dude is way better than Barton.

Definitely out on replay.
   12. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4121178)
I was gonna complain about Punto but, nope, Kai'ahue was out out out.
   13. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:44 PM (#4121180)
You can still complain about LNP
   14. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4121182)
That missed call costs the Red Sox about .8 runs in expectation. Bluck.
   15. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4121184)
Orsillo and Gmmons are setting some sort of world record for least chemistry on a broadcast. It's really awkward.
   16. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4121185)
And no way Kai'aihue tests home if Adrian makes that catch. This game is already shaping up to be terribly frustrating.

My dad and Uncle John are at the game tonight - I got them tickets as a gift - so I really hope it's a better game than it's been so far.

Weirdly, they were a lot better last night, I thought. (Though I had the game on in the background as I was cooking, so maybe I missed it.)
   18. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4121189)
Sympathies to your dad and uncle John. 38 minutes of a 1-0 game nd we re till in the top of the second on a cold drizzly night.
   19. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 07:52 PM (#4121192)
Yeah, I know. And it's all my fault.
   20. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:00 PM (#4121195)
Gammons really is a positive guy.
   21. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:05 PM (#4121199)
The thing I like about Gammons is that he actually talks about baseball, pretty much all night. He rambles, he's not exactly experienced at talking over a three-hour baseball game, but he gets that his job is to talk about baseball.
   22. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4121203)
Yankees losing 3-1, two homers allowed by Hughes through three innings.
   23. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4121205)
But we haven't seen the visiting clubhouse spread yet?
   24. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4121207)
This has been uninspiring so far. It's going to take a shot to get one out.
   25. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:16 PM (#4121211)
That's been my one complaint with Aviles this year, he makes throws he has no business making. No sense possibly throwing one away there.
   26. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:20 PM (#4121215)
Sox are gonna need a bunch of bullpen innings tonight. Bobby V may regret using four pitchers last night.

Albers is the first guy out of the pen, I guess?
   27. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:25 PM (#4121220)
8 strikeouts out of 11 outs? His BABIP must be terrible today.

And it got worse as I was typing that.
   28. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4121221)
What is Doubront's BABIP tonight? .800?
   29. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4121222)
Padilla and Morales both faced just one man last night so they should be fine. No one really threw a lot of pitches (maybe Atchison).
   30. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4121224)
Well ####.
   31. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4121225)
Christ. What a shitty night - and the bats haven't showed up at all.
   32. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4121226)
Guess Atchison is available.
   33. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4121227)
6 hits on 9 balls in play now.
   34. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4121229)
Really? Really? Uncontested steal of third and then that? ####### really?
   35. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4121230)
are you kidding me? ugh
   36. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4121231)
With the way Doubront's been pitching from behind, I'm not surprised the A's are hitting him. BABIPs in hitters' counts run higher than normal. (This is extreme, of course.)
   37. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:32 PM (#4121232)
I like Doubront, but he's a 4th / 5th starter right now, and if Daisuke rehabs well, I won't be sad if Felix goes to the pen.

This is what he always was and I think it's the thing that most people have missed. They've been expecting Lester or Pettitte, and those guys aren't showing up except to eat chicken and/or rat on their friends.
   39. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 01, 2012 at 08:57 PM (#4121259)
I think you guys are making too much of Doubront tonight. I'm not saying he's Lester or something like that but I think he has a real chance to be every bit as good as Bard albeit in a different style.
   40. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 01, 2012 at 09:16 PM (#4121271)
I kind of agree - Doubront's got a k/9 over 9. It's probably a fluke at this point, but it's much better than I expected to this point.
   41. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: May 01, 2012 at 09:50 PM (#4121287)
why bring in Albers here?
   42. Answer Guy Posted: May 01, 2012 at 10:30 PM (#4121315)
Is it me or is the offense being held to a low number of runs a lot the past two years, especially considering how many runs they average per game?
   43. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 01, 2012 at 10:35 PM (#4121316)
How does the ump give Balfour that 3-1 pitch with how wild he's been?

...and it doesn't matter because of a base hit on the next pitch.
   44. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 01, 2012 at 10:40 PM (#4121321)
Lars just needs to not GIDP. Give Pedroia a chance.
   45. Steve Balboni's Personal Trainer Posted: May 01, 2012 at 10:48 PM (#4121328)
If Youkilis can't be physically available to pinch hit in the 9th, then they need to put him on the DL, and bring Middlebrooks up. Because they are carrying a lot of pitchers, and (at the moment) Iglesias, they need to have an additional bat available. Anderson up in a key spot in the 9th is not a good situation, lefty-on-lefty. Middlebrooks should be up, Youk to the DL, Middlebrooks starts at 3B, and Punto goes back to being SuperSub.
