Jenny Dell is like baseball porn without the baseball.

Just tuned in....the hats?
   3. Dale Sams Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:06 PM (#4122060)
Oh, it's all throw-back...nvm.
   4. Dan Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:14 PM (#4122067)
DAN BARD!
   5. Dan Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4122073)
Damn, I figured that'd carry to the wall.

Bradford bringing a lot of good info on both A's and Sox players.

What's up with the hats and the socks?
   8. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:29 PM (#4122088)
Ah, throwback - but what time is this a throwback to?
   9. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:32 PM (#4122089)
Kila has a different colored batting helmet than the rest of the A's. Amateurs!
   10. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:38 PM (#4122095)
Middlebrooks! Go get, kid!
   11. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:38 PM (#4122096)
er, go get 'em. Do that.
   12. Dan Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4122097)
So...who had walk in Middlebrooks' first career PA? Against McCarthy, who walks almost no one. Weirdness.
   13. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4122098)
4-pitch walk! Welcome to Red Sox baseball!
   14. Dan Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4122099)
That was cool to see Youkilis up on the top step of the dugout to watch WMB's first AB.
   15. Dan Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4122100)
These are 1936 uniforms. I also noticed that Kila didn't get a throwback helmet. Major diss there.
   16. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4122101)
Do you really need to "solidify the 9-spot"?
   17. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4122102)
Middlebrooks steal! That was not expected!
   18. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4122106)
The A's throwbacks are kinda boring. The green and gold is so iconic, it's sad to see then in the dreary gray and blues.
   19. Dale Sams Posted: May 02, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4122107)
People who wern't allowed to play then dont get the helmets.

j/k

Is Dave Magadan a good hitting coach? I really have no idea.
   21. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 08:37 PM (#4122147)
Walk and and infield single. I'll take it!
   22. karlmagnus Posted: May 02, 2012 at 08:37 PM (#4122148)
Yay Middlebrooks. Perfect so far!
   23. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 02, 2012 at 08:42 PM (#4122150)
Solid baserunning by Middlebrooks, too. I like this guy.
   24. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: May 02, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4122151)
I want the Cody Ross experiment to come to an end. Right now.
   25. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: May 02, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4122152)
I can't believe Bard gets charged with an earned run for that missed ####### ball by Ross. What an #######.
   26. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: May 02, 2012 at 08:54 PM (#4122153)
WTF is the official scorer smoking? How can you not give Ross an error on that play?
   27. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 08:54 PM (#4122154)
Losing 2 of 3 to Oakland would constitute a significant step backward.
   28. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 02, 2012 at 08:54 PM (#4122155)
Everything I read about Magadan says the players generally like him.
   29. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 09:00 PM (#4122160)
It seems like Bard should be coming out at around 90 pitches at this point.

If that's all he can throw without cratering, than long term he probably belongs back in the bullpen. Of course they don't have enough starting options to make that a worthwhile choice, so until they do I'd rather start him than the other current available options for the rotation.
   31. Textbook Editor Posted: May 02, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4122171)
That Ross misplay was comical.
   32. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 09:14 PM (#4122173)
If only Ross were something other than awful in the OF, he might be a better option.
   33. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 09:26 PM (#4122179)
Josh Reddick would look really good on this team right about now.
   34. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4122186)
At least the Sox are on the board now.
   35. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4122187)
Aviles has cooled down significantly. Guess it was inevitable.
   36. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 09:51 PM (#4122192)
Damn it. That could really have made things interesting.
   37. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4122194)
AGon is also off to a slow start this season, which has not helped considering the injuries.
   38. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4122198)
Mortensen has got mad movement on his pitched. I thought he threw harder than this but the movement is nasty.
   39. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:02 PM (#4122199)
4 K in 2 IP
   40. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4122203)
The pen is starting to look better. Part of that is that they couldn't really look worse than they did, part of it is weaker opposition. But perhaps things are starting to take shape on that part of the team.
   41. Dan Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:13 PM (#4122207)
Why can't this team ever pitch and hit at the same time?
   42. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4122208)
0-8 (with a SF and 2 BBS) with RISP. Usually 11 baserunners, especially with 4 doubles and no GIDPs, adds up to more than a single run.
   43. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:20 PM (#4122214)
Mortensen looks right in the old uniform, he is crazy skinny.
   44. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:20 PM (#4122216)
Nice job by Mortensen to notch 6 Ks in 3 IPs.
   45. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4122221)
This just isn't a very good team is it?
   46. Dan Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:30 PM (#4122227)
What a fun tease. Now Gonzalez will K to end it as the tying run at the plate.
   47. Dan Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:32 PM (#4122229)
Gonzalez sucks.
   48. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4122230)
Why is Don surprised? Bad teams often lose series at home.
   49. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4122231)
Red Sox suck at Fenway this season?

I'm not sure what the people who had this team winning 92-95 games were thinking. I assume that the injuries are all more severe than team management lets on because that's pretty obviously been the case for a while now.

The relief pitching situation might be stabilizing but the starters have all ranged from mediocre to horrid and the hitting, while it has put up a respectable number of runs, ends way too many game with a runs total that stands little chance of winning many modern baseball games...particularly with a suspect pitching staff.

They are not to so weak that they could not luck their way into a postseason berth...but Lady Luck has been quite cruel to them thusfar.
   52. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:44 PM (#4122243)
The only saving grace is that it we all know Baltimore's going to come back to Earth, that Tampa Bay's going to have a tough time staying hot with Longoria out for a while, that the Yankee pitching hasn't really been better than Boston's, and Toronto hasn't set the world on fire either.
   53. Answer Guy Posted: May 02, 2012 at 10:45 PM (#4122244)
Good night for Middlebrooks though.
