They did indeed. That first half was really something. I think both Bowden and Robinson are gone after the season though.

And on a side note, the city with "no real baseball fans" just set the franchise attendance record yesterday. Stick it in your ear, Peter Angelos.

I am happy for the Nats. For the amount of talent they have, they've truly done great. And they finally gave JPatt the chance that he deserved in AZ, but didn't get because Brenly is a #### idiot. #### you, Brenly, and your #### love for Casey Daigle.

#### you, Brenly, and your #### love for Casey Daigle.

Suppoe Brenly was spending too much time gazing into the players' wives section when he made that decision?
   4. 1k5v3L Posted: September 09, 2005 at 03:48 PM (#1607320)
Daigle wasn't married at the time. But I'm guessing Brenly liked the thought of having Ms. Finch around for when he goes shooting beavers. And I'm sure he regretted his decision the moment the Cardinals just pummeled Daigle in his first start at the BOB (I was there, I felt bad for Daigle--I almost caught the second homer Rolen hit off him--and I was furious at Brenly. F'n f'k.)

Well, it's probably a good thing the Braves swept the Mets, because Ramirez is likely to get pummeled tonight. He can't keep getting lucky, can he?

Hram does suck. However, I am not worried about the braves at all. I don't think we needed to sweep the mets, and I don't think we need to win tonight. I enjoyed the sweep, and would love a win otnight, but I am confident that the rest of the east will continue to suck, as they always have. I almost long for the days when the dodgers would at least put up a fight.
   7. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 09, 2005 at 09:35 PM (#1608357)
Well, I just feel better with the lead we have now. It's good that this isn't a must-win series.
   8. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: September 09, 2005 at 09:55 PM (#1608444)
Shoot, I wouldn't mind a must win series. This winning going away stuff is getting boring.
   9. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 09, 2005 at 10:11 PM (#1608501)
'byrd, I had enough of losing going away back in the 70s and 80s. I'll take winning every time, thank you very much.

Well, it’s probably a good thing the Braves swept the Mets, because Ramirez is likely to get pummeled tonight. He can’t keep getting lucky, can he?

Sure why not? Big ballpark, worst offensive team in the NL. I like his chances of putting up a deceptively effective looking line tonight.

Shoot, I wouldn’t mind a must win series. This winning going away stuff is getting boring.

I understand what your saying, but I don't mind a boring September. The thing about must win series is that we seem to have a habit of losing them. (Thinking playoffs)
   11. Robert in Manhattan Beach Posted: September 09, 2005 at 10:19 PM (#1608517)
Looks like we are going with a the LaRoche-Estrada-Langerhans look tonight. Not our best, but should be good enought to handle the Nats.
   12. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 09, 2005 at 10:40 PM (#1608560)
I'm OK with the Estrada and Langerhans portions of that lineup. The problem I have is with LaRoche hitting fifth. If Bobby is going to play him, that's one thing, but let's at least drop him in the order a bit.

Ok, if you guys had to pick between this or this car, which one would you choose.

(this is why i was asking about the premium fuel yesterday.)

I actually have had promising contact from both owners at this point.

I think I could probably get the passat down to 2500, and might be able to get the 90S down to 3k. The passat seems cheaper to service, and i don't really like white cars. But, the 90S has already had a new clutch put in, which could be a problem in the passat, for all i know.

I do like leather seats better, especially in this climate.

The 90S blue book is 3825, and the passat blue book is 3295

Good thing loiza sucks, or we might lose this.
   16. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 09, 2005 at 11:48 PM (#1608709)
Furcal needed a ground rule double after that foul ball off his foot.
   17. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 09, 2005 at 11:50 PM (#1608719)
Why oh why does Bobby geep making Marcus bunt? He tends to hit to the right side of the field anyway, so let him swing away.

And I'm offended by the ads for Screamin A Smith's show behind home plate.
   18. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: September 09, 2005 at 11:54 PM (#1608728)
Screamin a's show is so bad. It came on after a game r soething the other day, and I was shooting people on the comp with it in the background. I'm glad the ratings for it suck.
   19. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 09, 2005 at 11:54 PM (#1608729)
geep!

Andruw hit that one hard. Too bad it was right at Vinny.

On the other hand, I would buy an XBox just to play a first-person shooter with ESPN "personalities" as the targets. Does this make me a bad person?
   21. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:01 AM (#1608750)
Ramirez with the walk. Always have to make it worse.

Although ball four was a strike
   22. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:02 AM (#1608751)
NO, but as a businessman, you may have no peer.

BTF should come out with a game like this. It could just be for computers though. We could even just mod some other game with their faces, and maybe give them a sound file or something.
   23. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:04 AM (#1608756)
And did his best to follow it up with a three run HR. Good think this is a big park.
   24. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:21 AM (#1608835)
But this inning, Ramirez is striking out everyone. (Except, that as I type that, he gives up a single up the middle....)
   25. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:22 AM (#1608838)
Guzman's managed to get his batting average over .200. Bravo for him; now the Nationals don't need a SS this offseason.
   26. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:24 AM (#1608843)
Estrada was a little scared there maybe. I hate erstad so much.
   27. joshtothemaxx Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:24 AM (#1608844)
Guzman got a hit..

wtf?
   28. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:24 AM (#1608846)
Estrada sucks. There's no excuse for him dropping that ball. He's ducking as soon as the guy comes in.

I think he needs to stop catching. He's afraid of contact, and you can;t play catcher that way.
   29. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:29 AM (#1608859)
Good bunt by Ramirez. I was concerned when he showed bunt so early, but it was OK.
   30. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: September 10, 2005 at 12:36 AM (#1608882)
I'm out. Hopefully we can make this lead hold up.

Ha!

Ramirez is going to make the game interesting...
   36. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:08 AM (#1609006)
106 pitches in 5 innings. I hope we don't see Ramirez in the playoffs.
   37. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:22 AM (#1609084)
I think I've killed this chatter.
   38. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:26 AM (#1609115)
So, can anyone come up with a reason that Kyle Davies shouldn't relace Ramirez in the rotation?

So, can anyone come up with a reason that Kyle Davies shouldn't relace Ramirez in the rotation?
   40. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:28 AM (#1609128)
Ramirez provides is a tested veteran.

You didn't specify that it had to be a good reason :)
   41. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:31 AM (#1609141)
But I did ask twice! (Sorry about that....)

I just hope Ramirez isn't around next year. And I wouldn't mind if they left him off the playoff roster.
   42. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:33 AM (#1609160)
Unfortunately, I'm sure that home run will minimize Davies' chances of getting more starts....
   43. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:36 AM (#1609169)
I wouldn't mind seeing Ramirez if he is the 4th or 5th starter. He has been putting up about 200 ip at league average pitching which has its uses. I guess it just depends on the price tag.
   44. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:40 AM (#1609195)
I think the Braves have better options than Ramirez for 2006. Since Hudson, Smoltz, and Hampton will all be in the rotation next year, and you've got James, Davies, and Lerew knocking on the door, Ramirez is superfluous. And someone will be willing to give us more than he's really worth, because they think he's going to be an ace.
   45. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:43 AM (#1609212)
Good. Glad to see Davies is pitching his second inning.
   46. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:46 AM (#1609233)
I bet that Hampton will see significant time on the DL again next year. Is Thomson still under contract for next year?
   47. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:49 AM (#1609258)
How in the #### do you walk Guzman?
   48. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:49 AM (#1609259)
This is not a good inning for Davies.
   49. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:50 AM (#1609268)
How in the #### do you walk Guzman?
   50. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:53 AM (#1609285)
I'm double-posting like mad!

The Braves have a reasonable option on Thomson. I can't imagine that they won't pick it up, although they might then trade him.
   51. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:55 AM (#1609297)
Well, ####. This bullpen sucks big time. I'm beginning to think that it doesn't matter who makes the playoff roster because the bullpen will blow every lead we might have in the playoffs.
   52. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:55 AM (#1609298)
Foster with his best Gryboski impression. ####.

The most annoying part is that Ramirez didn't pitch that badly.
   53. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:57 AM (#1609312)
Good news. Kolb is warming up in the bullpen now...........
   54. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:57 AM (#1609313)
Crap. Both the runners are going to score now that Kolb's in.
   55. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 01:58 AM (#1609319)
My bad. It's even better news. Kolb is in now.
   56. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:00 AM (#1609334)
Good call oi! I'm so ####### glad that we traded for this proven closer.

####!
   57. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:01 AM (#1609338)
As to the bullpen:

Well, Boyer's good. Reitsma's OK, if he can get enough rest between now and then. Farnsworth is looking really good. Anyone else?

Kolb, Foster, Brower all suck. McBride's OK, I guess. If Sosa ends up in the pen for the playoffs, he's a plus.
   58. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:02 AM (#1609345)
I hate being right on that sort of thing, Ted.
   59. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:02 AM (#1609351)
At least the Phillies are routing the Marlins tonight
   60. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:04 AM (#1609356)
What are the odds that Marte gets to pinchhit?
   61. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:04 AM (#1609360)
As I expected, none. Although I expected Julio rather than Hollandsworth.
   62. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:06 AM (#1609367)
I'm hoping that Sosa is the third starter for the playoffs. I think that there is something wrong with Reitsma; I bet he's injured. Bower and Farnsworth will need help closing out games when Smoltz and Hudson aren't starting, and it doesn't look like it's coming from this pen.
   63. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:08 AM (#1609374)
I don't understand it either, oi! If your going to have Marte on the bench, why not get him some at-bats? That Hollandsworth trade was horrible.
   64. The Ted (now serving waffles) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:10 AM (#1609388)
Ballgame. So much for being able to build a bullpen off the scrapheap.
   65. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:11 AM (#1609391)
Well, that was ugly.

I actually think you're right, that Sosa will be in the playoff rotation. That's a problem, since he's not likely to go seven.

I tend to think Reitsma's just worn down; it happened last year too. I don't think he's cut out to be a reliever. He's probably best suited to be a fifth starter - give you five or six innings every fifth day.

I do think the bullpen is likely to be our problem in the playoffs.
   66. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:16 AM (#1609420)
Has Marte even played in September?
   67. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 02:18 AM (#1609430)
Looking at Yahoo! sports, no, Marte has not played since September 1. That's a freaking joke.

One guy who won't be patching the bullpen is Adam Bernero. The Braves DFAed him today to bring Eddie Perez off the DL.

That probably points to a piece of the postseason roster. Eddie will be the third catcher.
   68. Chris Needham Posted: September 10, 2005 at 03:42 AM (#1609719)
You guys would've enjoyed it. It was a very pro-Braves crowd. Being a Nats fan, I was excited to see Dan Kolb warming in the pen. Next to Cordero, he's been our most valuable reliever this season.

At any rate, when he came in, many in the crowd gave him a loud boo. I'm pretty sure it didn't come from the Nats fans!

I wonder how many times a reliever has been booed in a road park by his home fans before he's even thrown a pitch?
   69. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: September 10, 2005 at 03:53 AM (#1609761)
Apparently the bullpen still sucks. I don't mind losing, but it's getting tedious to lose in this particular way.
   70. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 10, 2005 at 03:58 AM (#1609769)
Apparently the bullpen still sucks. I don’t mind losing, but it’s getting tedious to lose in this particular way.

Even more than that, this is a weakness that's going to matter in the playoffs. If the worst thing we had going was that Estrada's afraid of contact, and LaRoche can't buy a hit, well, that might not matter. But when the rotation's not that strong, the bullpen being so weak could hurt badly.

I'm not encouraged by the idea that we're going to have to hope that Smoltz and Hudson can go seven every start in the postseason.
   71. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: September 10, 2005 at 04:02 AM (#1609777)
As I expected, none. Although I expected Julio rather than Hollandsworth.

As ted says, this is why I hated the hollandsworth trade. He should never, ever get in the game. He should be the last option off of the bench, and yet, he keeps showing up in the box score. Bobby can't help but to use the bats that johnny gets him.
