Z helping his own cause again!
   2. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 07:41 PM (#3241492)
Good, because no one else seems willing to do so. Soriano looks mighty toasty. Guy is making $17 million a year and can't give the team a flyball against Jeff Suppan?
   3. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 07:46 PM (#3241493)
Z doesn't really have it today. No strikeouts.
   4. VoodooR Posted: July 03, 2009 at 07:56 PM (#3241497)
I told myself sometime over the last couple years that I was done (for the time being) worrying about Soriano having fallen off a cliff. Because every abysmal stretch seemed to be bookended by white-hot stretches. This feeling is starting to wear off, because it sure has been a while since we've seen that "other" Alfonso.
   5. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 07:58 PM (#3241499)
So how is it that Suppan's thrown almost half his pitches for balls, but has only allowed one walk? The Cubs must be making a lot of outs on 3-1 counts.
   6. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 07:58 PM (#3241500)
It'll be a summer of who the fans at Wrigley hate more, Soriano or Bradley.
   7. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 07:59 PM (#3241501)
That's the case from what I've seen so far today, retro.
   8. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 07:59 PM (#3241502)
I keep waiting for Bradley to get off my shitlist, but it hasn't happened yet.
   9. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:00 PM (#3241503)
It's bad enough to not be able to hit Suppan, but not hitting him when you've consistently got favorable counts is inexcusable.
   10. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:01 PM (#3241504)
Even when Fox makes outs they look promising. Whereas when Bradley and Soriano make outs, things in my apartment look broken.
   11. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:04 PM (#3241505)
Oh, feck's sake, Carlos.
   12. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:04 PM (#3241506)
Oops.

The top of the 7th at Wrigley is NEVER a 1-2-3 frame.
   13. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:05 PM (#3241507)
On the bright side, it doesn't look like the Cubs plan to score another run today.
   14. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:05 PM (#3241508)
So this is where things go to hell in a handbasket, is it?
   15. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:07 PM (#3241510)
Might as well have let Counsell swing away. I mean, the initial plan was to have Kendall sacrifice in front of him, right?
   16. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:08 PM (#3241511)
Marshall's gonna have to bring his hook in against Fielder again, isn't he?
   17. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:09 PM (#3241513)
OK, I hate this matchup.
   18. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:10 PM (#3241514)
Oh, just walk him already. And yes, I know first is occupied and the go ahead run's on second.
   19. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:10 PM (#3241515)
WOW!
   20. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:11 PM (#3241516)
I was damning him for pitching to him with in a 3-1 count, but Fukudome's arm and Suppan's legs eased that.
   21. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:11 PM (#3241517)
Good. Let Macha's decision to leave Suppan on the bases bite him in the ass. AND they got past Fielder.
   22. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:13 PM (#3241518)
So when does Guzman come off the DL, anyway?
   23. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:14 PM (#3241519)
Hopefully Suppan's fatigued from his baserunning adventures.
   24. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:15 PM (#3241520)
Heilman warming up. Ruh oh.
   25. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:16 PM (#3241521)
Way to make him work, Hill.
   26. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:16 PM (#3241522)
I was just gonna ask who's available. Marmol's worked a good bit lately, yes?
   27. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:17 PM (#3241523)
Time for some Hoff Heroics.
   28. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:17 PM (#3241524)
Wind appears to've shifted to the RF corner. Just sayin'.
   29. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:19 PM (#3241525)
This is up there with the Cubs' FlailFest against Anthony Swarzak on the embarrassmentometer.
   30. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:27 PM (#3241530)
Excellent. Now score about 8 runs to make this Gregg-proof.
   31. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:31 PM (#3241532)
Soriano looks so done.
   32. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:35 PM (#3241534)
Earn your damn keep, Milton.
   33. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:37 PM (#3241535)
He looks lost up there.
   34. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:39 PM (#3241536)
I'd say PH for Kosuke, but then who plays center?
   35. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:43 PM (#3241540)
If it's not in the seats, the Cubs can't score.
   36. VoodooR Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:43 PM (#3241541)
Fuld
   37. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:50 PM (#3241546)
Christ. You just knew that was happening.
   38. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:50 PM (#3241547)
God, Bradley's for shite.
   39. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:51 PM (#3241550)
Milton might want to lay low if the Brewers plate this run.
   40. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:51 PM (#3241552)
Brenly's PISSED.
   41. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:53 PM (#3241554)
You've gotta be ####### shitting me.
   42. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:53 PM (#3241555)
Oh god damn it.
   43. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:54 PM (#3241556)
That didn't hit him.
   44. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:54 PM (#3241557)
Milton might want to lay low if the Brewers plate this run.

Apparently $10MM doesn't buy a decent pair of shades these days.
   45. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:55 PM (#3241559)
That was strike one a minute ago.
   46. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:56 PM (#3241560)
Yes, but The Great Ryan Braun™ wasn't hitting a minute ago.
   47. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:57 PM (#3241561)
Nice.

Credit where it's due--other than that blown save in Detroit, Gregg's been really good lately.
   48. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:57 PM (#3241562)
Milton's life is safe for another day. It's getting to be where aside from the walks, there really isn't anything good you can say about Bradley.
   49. VoodooR Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:57 PM (#3241563)
phew
   50. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:58 PM (#3241566)
Fox/Fontenot/Hill/Fuld. Well, I have no clue what to expect.
   51. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 08:59 PM (#3241567)
Milton's life is safe for another day. It's getting to be where aside from the walks, there really isn't anything good you can say about Bradley.

He's a switch-hitting Fukudome with worse defense and an arsehole personality.
   52. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:02 PM (#3241568)
Now, I'm sure this Sam Fuld kid is great and all, but why not use Soto here?
   53. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:02 PM (#3241569)
Fontenot hitting Stetter has to be one of the more improbable things we've seen this year.
   54. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:02 PM (#3241570)
Wait, never mind. I forgot he came in to play center.
   55. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:05 PM (#3241571)
*throws chair*
   56. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:05 PM (#3241572)
That was pretty much the worst thing that could have happened. I thought it was over his head.
   57. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:06 PM (#3241573)
In typical soul-crushing fashion, Prince will hit a bomb onto the street.
   58. VoodooR Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:06 PM (#3241574)
F
   59. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:08 PM (#3241575)
OK, zenlike calm. Ohmmmmm.....
   60. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:09 PM (#3241576)
Nifty comeback.
   61. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:12 PM (#3241577)
Great job by Gregg. Let's get him the W.
   62. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:12 PM (#3241578)
Gregg sorta looks like a guy you'd want closing for you.
   63. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:15 PM (#3241580)
Another banner day at leadoff for our little big mistake in left.
   64. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:17 PM (#3241581)
Talk about reaching out and getting one.
   65. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:17 PM (#3241582)
Well, on the bright side, Soriano's only got another five and a half years on his contract. Be done before you know it.
   66. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:20 PM (#3241584)
Another chance for Bradley.
   67. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:21 PM (#3241585)
Or not.
   68. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:21 PM (#3241586)
On paper, this makes sense, but given how both Bradley and Soto have been going, I don't know. Seems like it could bite the Brewers in the ass.
   69. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:23 PM (#3241587)
I wonder if they'll just pitch around him now.
   70. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:24 PM (#3241588)
Hopefully Fox realizes he's not in the tight spot, the pitcher is.
   71. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:27 PM (#3241589)
Wow, that looked good.
   72. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:27 PM (#3241590)
FOXY!

/Hendrix
   73. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:27 PM (#3241591)
Second day in a row the game has ended on a questionable call.
   74. VoodooR Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:29 PM (#3241593)
I'll take it!
   75. retro-shiite Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:29 PM (#3241594)
I dunno--I thought the last pitch to McGehee was a clear strike.
   76. SouthSideRyan Posted: July 03, 2009 at 09:57 PM (#3241611)
Bill Welke's zone was absurd all day. That strike to Theriot in the 1st inning was honestly one of the worst called strikes I've ever seen. His zone was erratic, and when it was consistent, it was nowhere close to the accepted zone.
