Sheff is out again.
   2. Guts Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:04 PM (#3231620)
VEB today posted this chart:

Name K/9 BB/9 HR/9 H/9
Joel Pineiro, 2009 4.2 1.2 0.2 9.4
Cy Young 3.5 1.5 0.2 8.7
Pete Alexander 3.8 1.6 0.3 8.4
Kid Nichols 3.3 2.3 0.3 8.7
Old Hoss Radbourn 3.6 1.7 0.2 8.6
Eddie Plank 4.5 2.1 0.1 7.9
Mickey Welch 3.5 2.4 0.2 8.6
Pud Galvin 2.7 1.1 0.2 9.6

Pineiro is a Hall of Famer! He was just born 100 year too late.
   3. Guts Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:04 PM (#3231622)
God, live preview, why do you lie to me?
   4. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:05 PM (#3231625)
I have a feeling balls in play won't be finding Cards gloves quite as regularly tonight.

Just a ####### guess.
   5. AJM Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:06 PM (#3231626)
I believe it would work if you use the 'code' tags.
   6. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:08 PM (#3231628)
Yesterday was just depressing. We made Joel Pineiro look like Brandon Webb. For the first time, I'm doubting that we have the horses to stay in the race for the reinforcements to arrive.
   7. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:08 PM (#3231629)
Sheff had a cortizone shot in his knee. He won't play the next two days. Mets are hoping that he'll just get better, somehow.

I love this management. "Well, ####, waiting and seeing with everyone else hasn't worked, but dammit, we're bound to be right eventually!"

Of course, who would they even bring up to replace Sheff at this point?
   8. Guts Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:08 PM (#3231630)

Thanks AJM, that worked way better.
   10. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:10 PM (#3231633)
So, this is the first time I've actually gotten to physically see Nieve. I'm... excited? Meh, that's too strong of a word.
   11. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:12 PM (#3231637)
Nieve is due for a stinker. Why do I have the feeling it is imminent?
   12. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:13 PM (#3231640)
You can stop sucking the Cardinals off, Keith. We're quite tired of it already.
   13. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:13 PM (#3231641)
Of course, who would they even bring up to replace Sheff at this point?

I think Pagan is ready.
   14. Guts Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:13 PM (#3231642)
That looked like a long flyout on Gameday.
   15. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:13 PM (#3231643)
Fernando looks pretty good defensively in CF.
   16. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:14 PM (#3231644)
So what's Nieve's story? I assume he's had arm trouble of some sort.
   17. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:15 PM (#3231648)
Yup, Fernando can go get them.
   18. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:17 PM (#3231649)
Fernando looks pretty good defensively in CF.

Agreed. And for what it's worth, I don't think he's looked as bad as his stats at the plate either. He has a nice approach up there. The hits will come.
   19. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:17 PM (#3231650)
Hey, nice inning!
   20. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:17 PM (#3231652)
God, Evans is at first? That means Tatis is still playing? Son of a.
   21. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:19 PM (#3231654)
Oh wow, an SNY special on the '69 Mets narrated by Tim Robbins?
   22. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:20 PM (#3231655)
Sounds like Beltran could be out for a while. Bad, bad news.

Also, why did we drop Switzer? He looked like a pretty good LOOGY. I hate our organization sometimes.
   23. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:20 PM (#3231656)
There's three Fernandos in the lineup tonight.

(There's a good name for the Mets now, David Wright and the Three Fernandos!)
   24. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:20 PM (#3231657)
Yeah, Tatis is still in the starting lineup. :-(
   25. AJM Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:21 PM (#3231658)
Of course, who would they even bring up to replace Sheff at this point?

I was going to say Evans, but I didn't realize he was here already. I have no idea who's left at this point, I say let's get Kiner out there.
   26. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:23 PM (#3231663)
What an odd attempt from Greene. What was he planning on doing after that dive?
   27. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:23 PM (#3231664)
Castillo is our only offensive threat.

Wow, that sounds sad.
   28. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:24 PM (#3231666)
Razor Shines is history's greatest monster.
   29. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:24 PM (#3231667)
BABIP!!! Send him, Razor!
   30. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:24 PM (#3231668)
Good work, Crappy, not listening to Shines.
   31. AJM Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:25 PM (#3231669)
Wright!

Ha, Slappy ignoring Razor.
   32. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:25 PM (#3231671)
Keith: Crappy would have scored easily.

I don't believe that. There would have been a play there.
   33. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:25 PM (#3231672)
No sucking, Church.
   34. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:26 PM (#3231674)
I think Cohen is right. Razor was in the wrong ####### spot.
   35. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:27 PM (#3231675)
CHURCH! Razor Shines is gun-shy.
   36. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:27 PM (#3231676)
See, no reason to send him with our big RBI guy up!
   37. AJM Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:27 PM (#3231677)
It would've been close. Razor was standing in Slappy's way.

Churchy!
   38. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:28 PM (#3231678)
Tatis is going to GIDP. Lift the ball, Fernando II.
   39. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:28 PM (#3231679)
FernanDP up.
   40. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:28 PM (#3231680)
RELEASE HIM RIGHT NOW!!
   41. AJM Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:29 PM (#3231681)
Of course.
   42. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:29 PM (#3231683)
Honestly, bench Tatis' ass. This is unacceptable.
   43. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:29 PM (#3231685)
SERIOUSLY, STOP PLAYING HIM. I'LL EVEN TAKE JEREMY REED OVER HIM!
   44. twon8 Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:29 PM (#3231686)
I think we all agree Tatis is done.
   45. Bob Koo Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:29 PM (#3231688)
Shines is terrible. Wright should've been sent there. Duncan doesn't have a good arm, right?

Tatis is just awful. He should not be playing today.
   46. twon8 Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:29 PM (#3231689)
Reed's defense and speed would more than make up for the eight outs Tatis is making every night.
   47. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:31 PM (#3231693)
I would play Evans at LF and Murphy at 1B.

Tatis is killing our offense.
   48. twon8 Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:34 PM (#3231702)
Church should have been running with Yadier not behind the plate.
   49. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:35 PM (#3231704)
Nieve's stuff looks pretty good. He looks about 1,000 times better than Redding.

And why do they keep on calling him a journeyman? He looks like he was decent prospect who had arm problems but he's back to healthy now.
   50. Freeballin' (Tales of Met Power) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:35 PM (#3231706)
Nieve has had occasional modest success in the minors. Is it possible that he could stick as a back of the rotation guy?
   51. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:36 PM (#3231708)
Nieve is locking up a rotation spot. Maine should replace Redding.
   52. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:36 PM (#3231709)
Nieve gets lots of flyballs. The move from Houston to Citi should help him enormously.
   53. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:37 PM (#3231711)
His age 22 minor league season looks like someone who was putting it together.

Then the arm problems came.
   54. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:38 PM (#3231712)
Davis is 1-1. He's still batting 1000.
   55. Freeballin' (Tales of Met Power) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:38 PM (#3231714)
Ouranus!
   56. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:38 PM (#3231716)
ARGENIS!
   57. Freeballin' (Tales of Met Power) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:39 PM (#3231721)

His age 22 minor league season looks like someone who was putting it together.

You're right. Hey, maybe the Mets will catch a f**king break for once.
   58. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:39 PM (#3231723)
Let's have a big ####### game, Evans. Bury Tatis.
   59. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:40 PM (#3231726)
BOO BABIP DEMONS, GIVE EVANS A KNOCK
   60. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:41 PM (#3231727)
Well, that's all I need to see. Start him over Tatis!
   61. Guts Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:45 PM (#3231733)
Per Gameday, first ball to Thompson was, uh, questionable.
   62. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:47 PM (#3231736)
Why are we so freaking in love with Tim Redding. His game the other day aside, he still has an ERA over 6. ####, he didn't even really throw a QS the other day!
   63. twon8 Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:48 PM (#3231740)
Per Gameday, first ball to Thompson was, uh, questionable.

Yeah, and the first pitch to Ryan was also a strike called a ball.
   64. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:48 PM (#3231741)
Yes guys, this is all a novel idea. Except Oliver Perez will never be effective out of the bullpen.
   65. Bob Koo Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:49 PM (#3231742)
What the heck, Wright?
   66. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:49 PM (#3231743)
You can't put Perez in the bullpen. Don't be retarded. He's either in the rotation or he's dead.

Come on, Donkeyface, get your head in the game.
   67. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:50 PM (#3231748)
REDDING HAS NOT PITCHED WELL, JUST STOP
   68. twon8 Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:51 PM (#3231749)
Oliver could be a very effective LOOGY, but I'm not sure Omar would let that happen.
   69. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:52 PM (#3231752)
Ollie is exceptional against lefties though. We could use him in Sept against Utley, Howard, et al.
   70. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:52 PM (#3231754)
Perez would walk half the lefties he would face.
   71. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:54 PM (#3231757)
This is shaping up to be an annoying inning.
   72. Bob Koo Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:54 PM (#3231758)
This inning will not go well. Why David?
   73. Banta Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:54 PM (#3231762)
Look, here's the point... if Ollie isn't good enough to be in the rotation, he's probably not good enough to be in the bullpen. He's too hit or miss like that.
   74. Raskolnikov Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:58 PM (#3231775)
Davis with a BB in his 2nd AB. Still hasn't made an out in AA.
   75. Bob Koo Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:01 AM (#3231786)
Ankiel looks really bad.
   76. Banta Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:01 AM (#3231788)
NIEVE!
   77. Raskolnikov Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:01 AM (#3231789)
K! Fernando for president!
   78. AJM Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:01 AM (#3231792)
Nieve!
   79. Guts Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:02 AM (#3231793)
Ank should not be hitting 4th.
   80. Banta Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:02 AM (#3231794)
Ankiel looks really bad.

Time for him to go back to minors and become a pitcher again!
   81. Raskolnikov Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:03 AM (#3231798)
We'll trade you Tatis for Ankiel.
   82. Raskolnikov Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:04 AM (#3231802)
Beautiful. Nieve doing it all.
   83. Banta Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:04 AM (#3231803)
That settles it. Nieve is my new favorite player.
   84. AJM Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:04 AM (#3231805)
The Mets have some hot wives.
   85. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:05 AM (#3231807)
Five dirty blondes. Interesting.
   86. Banta Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:05 AM (#3231810)
The Mets have some hot wives.

If you're a major leaguer and you don't have a hot wife, I think you made a huge mistake somewhere.
   87. Raskolnikov Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:06 AM (#3231811)
Who were the hot wives?
   88. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:06 AM (#3231812)
These double plays have got to stop.
   89. Banta Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:06 AM (#3231813)
Crappy, you suck!
   90. AJM Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:06 AM (#3231814)
If you're a major leaguer and you don't have a hot wife, I think you made a huge mistake somewhere.

Good point.
   91. AJM Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:07 AM (#3231816)
Who were the hot wives?

One was Brian Schneider's.
   92. twon8 Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:07 AM (#3231819)

If you're a major leaguer and you don't have a hot wife, I think you made a huge mistake somewhere.

Or you're Jose Tabata
   93. Bob Koo Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:09 AM (#3231826)
Nieve's thrown 69 pitches already.
   94. Banta Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:10 AM (#3231831)
Alright, two pitches, one out. Let's keep this up!
   95. Raskolnikov Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:10 AM (#3231832)
If Fernando is smart, he doesn't get married until he's enjoyed NYC for a bit.
   96. Banta Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:11 AM (#3231834)
Five pitches, two outs! Let's keep this up!
   97. Raskolnikov Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:11 AM (#3231835)
I like the fact that Nieve gets a lot of swing-and-misses. That's a very good sign that this isn't a fluke.
   98. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:12 AM (#3231840)
Pat Burrell hits a homer against the Phillies. My friend, a Phillies fan, says: "That may be the most acceptable home run the Phillies have ever allowed."
   99. Raskolnikov Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:12 AM (#3231841)
Havens with a good night in the FSL so far, 2-4 with a 2B.
   100. Raskolnikov Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:13 AM (#3231843)
