After last night's awesome offensive display, I assume Murton and Cedeno will find themselves on the bench yet again. You don't want to break up that kind of hitting chemistry.

Good article from Bruce Miles on just this point.

I recommend the BPro Macias profile, as mentioned by dJf at the tail of last night's chatter.

I also see that Dusty still thinks the Cubs are in the hune - cue lots more Neifi batting 2nd, Macias to PH in clutch situations.

More intriguing are the suggestions in the Trib that the Cubs may be thinking of trying to re-sign Nomar to play OF.

hune hunt.

John Paul Stevens is going to throw out the first pitch? How cool is that.

Dusty plumbs the depths:

Patterson
Hairston
Lee
Burmitz
McClain 3B
Walker
Cedeno
Blanco
Prior

I appreciated Bruce Miles answering one question I've had: the longest string of games for a team without being no-hit. The Cubs are now just over 4 seasons away from the record.

With some of the lineups Dusty runs out there, it's odd that they are still in the chase.
   8. Neil M Posted: September 10, 2005 at 07:08 PM (#1610771)
Playing:

Patterson .221/.259/.361

Hairston .262/.333/.375

Not playing:

Murton .338/.415/.479

####### inexcusable.

I can't #### believe we'll have a game with Neifi on the bench. He's a regular Iron Man with Dusty at the helm.

I can’t #### believe we’ll have a game with Neifi on the bench.

Yeah, well, if Corey should somehow scrape together a hit today, we'll probably see not only the triumphant return of Neifi but also the return of the Piss/Poor lead-off combo that thrilled us so much.

37 pitch first inning for Prior. Mmmm...love the taste of indigestion!

A two run deficit should be easy enough to overcome with this lineup.
   12. Cooper Teenoh Posted: September 10, 2005 at 08:42 PM (#1611067)
OH,I get it...Walker and Cedeno bat sixth and seventh because they're fairly good at getting on base, which sets the table for Blanco and the series of pinch hitters.

Sure, that makes sense.
   13. Cooper Teenoh Posted: September 10, 2005 at 08:56 PM (#1611087)
Is anyone watching/listening? What happened to Cedeno?
   14. Neil M Posted: September 10, 2005 at 08:56 PM (#1611088)
And now Cedeno out of the game, hurt. Jeez.
   15. Neil M Posted: September 10, 2005 at 08:58 PM (#1611091)
He got HBP on his glove hand. Started the bottom of the inning but was unable to close the glove on a pick-off attempt. Immediately taken out.

Wonderful. Thanks, Neil

3 innings, 3 lead-off first-pitch outs. That's the Cubs for you.

you know i really appreciate how the cubs are trying to make the young Giants pitchers look good.

The Cubs have been morale-boosters for a lot of kids this year. They're generous that way.

The Cubs have been morale-boosters for a lot of kids this year.

Unless, of course, the kids wear Cubs uniforms.

I believe Lee now has 27 RBI since the All Star Break.
   22. Neil M Posted: September 10, 2005 at 10:25 PM (#1611154)
You're right, Andere.

Before today, Lee's total PA - 603

With RISP - 156. Batting 3rd.

122 pitches out of Prior after the Cubs have been effectively eliminated from playoff contention...
