I'll be at the game tonight. Here's hoping Sosa can keep the ball in the yard.
   2. Honkie Kong Posted: September 03, 2005 at 06:49 PM (#1595429)
Keeping it in the park against the Reds is gonna be tough. Just hope noone is on base when it happens!
Hope the Sosa magic doesn't wane out. Given our luck, the dips gods will exact their revenge in the playoffs.

Big jam here in the 4th--- loaded and 1 out.
   4. rb's team is hopeful for the new year! Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:08 AM (#1596176)
Well, gamecast is slow again. It's got the braves losing 1-0, but I saw the bottom line had them up 2-1.

Not going to stick around for this game. Gonna go to the deck to celebrate the GA beatdown.
   5. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 05:10 PM (#1596800)
No game chatter for today yet.

Ramirez still sucks.
   6. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 05:18 PM (#1596814)
Marcus finally gets a home run. About time. He's been close a couple of times.
   7. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 05:25 PM (#1596829)
Great! DragonCon is apparently interfering with the Reds hotel. That's funny.
   8. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 06:36 PM (#1596953)
Marcus is going to try to win this game by himself.
   9. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 06:41 PM (#1596960)
Bill Shanks:

"I get a little surprised by the level of love this board has for him (Marcus Giles) sometimes."
   10. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 06:44 PM (#1596963)
Where's that from, CFBF?
   11. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 06:45 PM (#1596966)
The BravesCenter board, where Bill's the publisher and chief writer.
   12. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 06:45 PM (#1596967)
Dammit, another home run given up by Ramirez.

Time to stop wasting starts on him. Let Lerew or Davies have his spot in the rotation.
   13. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 06:46 PM (#1596969)
Isn't that part of scout.com? I never bother with them, since nearly everything seems to be subscriber only.
   14. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 06:50 PM (#1596974)
It is now.

BravesCenter used to be the Braves' board on Fanhome. Before that it used to be the Braves' board on Baseballboards.com.

I headed over there from the CNNSI boards after the 2000 season, and the place was a revelation. My first pro-longed exposure to sabrmetrics.

When Scout took over at the end of the 2002 season, I wrote for BravesCenter until mid-04.

It's free to post on the board, but most of the stuff on the site is subscriber only. Not that I'm in any hurry to read Shanks' stuff.
   15. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:08 PM (#1596999)
Now, this is what Hollandsworth's role on the team should be. One of the first bats off the bench.
   16. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:09 PM (#1597001)
Even with the strikeout, I'm okay with that.
   17. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:09 PM (#1597004)
I would rather have seen Kelly Johnson in that situation.
   18. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:15 PM (#1597018)
I'd put it as a tossup on Kelly vs. Todd.

Marcus really does want to win this game, doesn't he?
   19. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:17 PM (#1597025)
I just do not understand why Marcus Giles is so popular.
   20. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:18 PM (#1597027)
Washington's up 3-0 on the Phillies in the 7th.
   21. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:20 PM (#1597034)
Farnsworth has a 7-1 K/BB ratio as a Brave.

Nifty.
   22. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:22 PM (#1597038)
It's 3-1 overall, which isn't bad either.
   23. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:25 PM (#1597047)
Not bad, yes, but not nifty-level.
   24. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:27 PM (#1597053)
Farnsworth is getting squeezed this inning.
   25. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:29 PM (#1597058)
OK WonderBoy, what the ever-loving hell was that?
   26. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:31 PM (#1597063)
I'm on SportsLine, what did Francoeur do? I assume he misplayed the ball on the triple?
   27. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:31 PM (#1597066)
Yes. Yes he did. A couple different ways.
   28. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:32 PM (#1597069)
Maybe he can make up for the play in the bottom of the inning.
   29. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:33 PM (#1597070)
Farnsworth rules the night!
   30. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:35 PM (#1597075)
Well, that was brilliant.
   31. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:38 PM (#1597083)
LaRoche-Francoeur-Langerhans do not rule the night.
   32. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:38 PM (#1597084)
Extra innings. If I'd gone to the game today, I'd be happy about that....
   33. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:41 PM (#1597092)
I'm really disappointed in LaRoche. I expected him to make some progress this year towards being a solid first baseman. Instead, he looks worse than he did as a rookie. And that's despite being put in a position to thrive.
   34. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:42 PM (#1597093)
And Bobby's certainly been patient with LaRoche, maybe more patient than I would have been.
   35. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:42 PM (#1597096)
I'm not so happy about seeing Reitsma. I understand not wanting to overuse Farnsworth, but this is a bad idea.
   36. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:43 PM (#1597098)
I do not understand why Marcus Giles is so popular.
   37. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:44 PM (#1597101)
BTW, I LOVE the "Superman" theme after a great defensive play. Nice decision by the Turner Field crew.
   38. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:45 PM (#1597102)
Props where they're due: Solid inning for Reitsma.
   39. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:47 PM (#1597107)
I don't know if this Samuel Jackson/Eugene Levy movie looks great or awful.
   40. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:48 PM (#1597109)
Perhaps so, but I still would rather see him get some rest. I think his biggest problem right now is being overused - he's just not a pitcher who can handle a heavy workload.

Use him once or twice a week for the rest of the season, to let him rebound but not lose all his control. Then work him hard in the playoffs.
   41. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:48 PM (#1597110)
Brian Jordan.

Oh huzzah.
   42. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:50 PM (#1597117)
Well, this is Jordan's only role on the team.
   43. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:50 PM (#1597118)
Julio Franco.

HUZZAH!
   44. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:51 PM (#1597119)
Why won't Bobby send Marte up there? The kid deserves a shot.
   45. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:52 PM (#1597121)
Wow. That was Jordan-esque, Julio.
   46. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:52 PM (#1597122)
Marte couldn't have done any worse than those two.
   47. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:53 PM (#1597125)
I will not countenance any insults of Julio Franco.
   48. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:54 PM (#1597127)
That was the worst inning ever.
   49. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:55 PM (#1597131)
I will not countenance any insults of Julio Franco.

Says the person who, two posts earlier, compared Julio to Brian Jordan. If that's not an insult, I don't know what is.
   50. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 07:58 PM (#1597138)
BTW, I predict the Jackson/Levy movie will suck.
   51. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:04 PM (#1597147)
No, I said his AB was Jordan-esque. There's a difference.

It's all up to the Infruriatingly Popular Marcus Giles.
   52. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:05 PM (#1597148)
Wow. Something tells me Ray Olmedo isn't at all popular in Cincy.
   53. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:07 PM (#1597151)
Not the best use of a 2-1 pitch by Chipper.
   54. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:08 PM (#1597152)
Wow. An Andruw chant.
   55. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:08 PM (#1597153)
And now it's up to LaSuck.
   56. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:09 PM (#1597154)
If I'm the Reds, I would walk Andruw.
   57. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:09 PM (#1597155)
Former Atlanta minor leaguer Matt Belisle helps us out.
   58. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:09 PM (#1597157)
Like that, yeah.
   59. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:10 PM (#1597159)
Except I would have skipped the wild pitch.

OK, Adam, prove me wrong.
   60. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:12 PM (#1597162)
That was the worst at-bat ever.

Screw it: Julio for permanent first baseman.
   61. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:12 PM (#1597163)
Well, a strikeout's better than a double play.
   62. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:13 PM (#1597164)
That's some interesting strategy. Walk the bases loaded to face Langerhans?
   63. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:15 PM (#1597165)
Can someone please hit?

Anyone?
   64. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:17 PM (#1597171)
I expect the Reds will pounce on us this inning. I've got a bad feeling about wasting that bases loaded situation.
   65. CFBF Hates Hyphens Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:20 PM (#1597175)
Boy, they've hit the hell out of the ball this inning...
   66. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:21 PM (#1597176)
I hate it when I'm right.
   67. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:22 PM (#1597177)
Did Griffey hurt himself?
   68. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:26 PM (#1597181)
I really hate it when I'm this right.
   69. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:29 PM (#1597185)
The good news is, at least the right pitcher will take the loss. And the hit to his ERA.

Capellan may never amount to anything, but I'd rather still have him than have useless Dan Kolb.
   70. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:31 PM (#1597187)
Well, I think it's time to let Lerew have Kolb's innings.
   71. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:32 PM (#1597189)
I guess we'll see Estrada, Betemit, and Furcal. If Estrada reaches, I think you PR with Orr.
   72. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:36 PM (#1597193)
Well, no need to pinch run for Estrada....
   73. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:38 PM (#1597197)
And Betemit goes down...
   74. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 08:41 PM (#1597204)
Well, the good news is that Philadelphia and Florida both lost, so at least we don't lose ground. But I would have liked another game added to the lead.
   75. Gaylord Perry the Platypus (oi!) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 10:15 PM (#1597294)
Maybe we won't see as much of Kolb after that implosion. I can hope, right?
