From the Trib:

The Cubs promoted two first-round draft picks, sending third baseman Josh Vitters from Class-A Peoria to their advanced Class-A Daytona team, and right-hander Andrew Cashner from Daytona to Double-A Tennessee.

Vitters, the No. 1 pick from '07, hit .316 at Peoria with 15 home runs and 46 RBIs in 70 games. Cashner, the No. 1 pick in '08, had a 1.50 earned-run average in 12 starts. He's pitched only 42 innings, as the Cubs are going slowly in his conversion from reliever.

Also promoted to Daytona from Peoria was right-hander Chris Carpenter, who, like Vitters, was also a Midwest League All-Star.

They also promoted Bullpen Jesus and sent down Ascanio. I don't really know why. David Patton makes me cry.

David Patton's place on this team is absolutely ridiculous. Trying to hide a Rule V pick on a team expected to make the playoffs is silly to begin with, but it's especially silly when it's a 25 year old pitcher who's already been converted to a full-time reliever in Single A.

I'm willing to bet some dumbass within this organization scouted Patton in 2006 cause it's the only season where he was worth a damn. In typical Hendry fashion, the orginzatino convinced themselves that his true talent level happened to be his best season.

Phil Rogers is a moron.

That is all.

And so, apparently, is 57% of the Tribune readership. But I guess that shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Watching Fontenot this season takes me back to 2005, when the Cubs fooled themselves into thinking Todd Hollandsworth would be a useful everyday outfielder.
   8. VoodooR Posted: June 30, 2009 at 11:38 PM (#3238294)
Yeah, they have had decent luck with that strategy more recently though. Recall that when DeRosa came over, most of us, thought he would be stretched as a regular and he probably is, his excellent 2008 season notwithstanding.

Taking some pitches might be a good strategy. Tons of hacking away tonight.

The Pirates have some sort of auction charity thing going on right now, so the game itself is more of a backdrop to inning-long shills of $1200-bullpen sessions with Paul Malholm.
   10. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:06 AM (#3238322)
Just when you think you've seen it all, the Cubs get the third out via strikeout and have a runner score from second on the play. Good god.
   11. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:17 AM (#3238330)
This team is going to kill me. I've never seen a Cub team so inept at situational hitting.
   12. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:51 AM (#3238355)
The only thing more tedious than watching the Cubs hit is listening to this three-hour shill for auctions. Holy god. I can't stand Pittsburgh's announcers.
   13. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:55 AM (#3238357)
I'm not sure why I keep watching. Losses are never fun, but #### like this is salt over an open wound. What the ####### hell is Soto doing there?
   14. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:59 AM (#3238361)
I'm calling it a night. Not so much because of the Cubs, but because the Pirates' announcers haven't said anything about a pitch in this game. Just continual shills for this charity ####.
   15. VoodooR Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:09 AM (#3238372)
Well, can you imagine having to talk about Pirates baseball? It would be like talking about this Cubs team, but for 17 straight years.
   16. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:16 AM (#3238382)
I switched the Pat and Ron. From a financial standpoint, Soriano has to be the worst hitter in baseball right now.
   17. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:27 AM (#3238406)
Shutout number eight, for those keeping score at home. It's a shame Ramirez is gone, because it's just another reason to lie and pretend they shouldn't be sellers.

Absolutely pathetic.
