Slugging percentages:
Emperor .445
Jurassic .472
Konerko .513
Rowand .408
Marlon .509
Bobby .457

Wish they'd drop him in the order a bit. Just saw the clip online of Hawk & DJ's pre-game intro w/mullets -- pretty funny, good job of keeping a straight face. At least on Hawk's part.

I hate the booing of Ordoñez.
   5. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:14 PM (#1595883)
Part of that's the fault of the organization, and I hate how they handled it.

I don't blame Ordonez for taking the last big, big-money contract he'll probably see, and I don't blame the Sox for looking elsewhere. Best for both sides, I don't see much of a need to boo.
   6. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:14 PM (#1595884)
Buehrle is clean-shaven tonight. If he doesn't start pitching well again soon, I'm expecting a shaved head.
   7. Eraser-X is emphatically dominating teh site!!! Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:15 PM (#1595886)
Me too, people cheered when he got hit on Thursday (oh wait, you know that--you were there). I hope he destroys the league whenever he's not playing the Sox
   8. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:15 PM (#1595889)
Shaky but bloodless first. I'll be back in a bit.
   9. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:16 PM (#1595892)
Robertson has been tough on the Sox this year. We'll see if Secret Weapon™ can start something.
   10. Eraser-X is emphatically dominating teh site!!! Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:16 PM (#1595895)
Was he that bad last month? Wasn't he in the mid-3s in ERA?
   11. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:18 PM (#1595898)
Eraser-X, I agree with PH that it was best for both sides the way it worked out. I certainly am glad that the White Sox didn't sign him to the contract Detroit agreed to with Ordoñez. But there's no need to demonize him. The Sox aren't the only club that does that, by any means. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a club that doesn't do that.

Emperor™!!
   12. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:19 PM (#1595899)
I wish we had Inge.
   13. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:21 PM (#1595906)
Alright, Paulie!

How deep was Logan playing? It's not like you're risking a triple if Konerko hits one over your head.
   14. Eraser-X is emphatically dominating teh site!!! Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:22 PM (#1595909)
Good stuff. Man, Aaron just doesn't quite have the pop he had last year :(
   15. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:25 PM (#1595914)
I was at Mullet Night last time, and it was actually pretty fun. Of course, the ballgame itself probably had something to do with that.

But then I came home to the news that Rooney won't be back next year. That's a drag.

Maybe the Score will save some money and put some incompetent moron like Mike North with Farmer...
   16. Eraser-X is emphatically dominating teh site!!! Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:25 PM (#1595915)
Are they any Primates at the game tonight?
   17. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:26 PM (#1595916)
I expected Rowand to give back some of the slugging percentage from last year, but not 137 points.

Damnit.
   18. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:33 PM (#1595923)
Alright, Vinton™.
   19. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:42 PM (#1595933)
Way to blow the call, Crawford.

Your eBay would have helped matters there if he hadn't gotten so far in front of the bag.

Logan was out, period.
   20. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:45 PM (#1595938)
And now Logan is out! Nice job, Mark.
   21. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:46 PM (#1595940)
Buehrle says, "Look what I got!".

Nice grab.
   22. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:50 PM (#1595942)
I missed the Emperor™.
   23. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:53 PM (#1595945)
Jurassic better believe in the Ice Age, 'cause he just froze!

*triple snaps*
   24. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:53 PM (#1595947)
The Emperor™ not only has clothes tonight, he's wearing an $800 suit.
   25. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:55 PM (#1595949)
AAR-ON ROW-AND!!!

*CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP*
   26. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:56 PM (#1595950)
Alright, Aaron!
   27. Eraser-X is emphatically dominating teh site!!! Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:57 PM (#1595951)
There's some power from Rowand!

And Dye tries to take a page out of Fat Ortiz's book...
   28. VG Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:57 PM (#1595952)
It's tough to be blown away by Nate Robertson, but that's just what happened to Dye.
   29. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:58 PM (#1595955)
That would've been real nice if that bunt stay fair.

Thank you, Aaron!
   30. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:58 PM (#1595957)
An ugly end to an otherwise good inning.
   31. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:00 AM (#1595961)
Is Magglio still sporting the shaggy look?
   32. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:01 AM (#1595963)
Appropriately, since they are a sponsor of Sox baseball, I am eating the remaining half of the Home Run Inn Pizza that I made last night during the game. Mmmmm.

And the Amstel Light is good, too.
   33. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:03 AM (#1595964)
I'd say Maggs is a little more shaggy than when he was a Sox, but not as shaggy as he was earlier this year.

For crying out loud, why can't we get Craig ####### Monroe out?
   34. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:03 AM (#1595965)
I never really had much Home Run Inn Pizza, despite a location being a mile away from my house.

They do have a couple of Uno's around here, but I've never had pizza from one of its chain stores -- just the original.
   35. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:04 AM (#1595966)
Am I the only one who's puzzled by Mark Buehrle lately? He's been uncharacteristically hittable over the past few weeks.
   36. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:04 AM (#1595968)
Wow, 6 Ks for Buehrle already. Nice sequence there. Made Inge look bad in that at-bat.
   37. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:05 AM (#1595970)
Nice way to end the inning. I haven't seen Buehrle pitch in a couple months, just heard the hits.
   38. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:06 AM (#1595971)
Well, at least he wasn't hittable to Brandon Inge there.

Nice, Mark!

But I do agree with you, JRE. It's something to think about when they/we start talking about (if the Sox get there) who starts Game 1...
   39. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:08 AM (#1595974)
I'm spending these Farmer innings trying to get used to hearing him take the controls. I don't mind his play-by-play, but it's gonna be weird.

Robertson's a K machine as well.
   40. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:12 AM (#1595980)
Hawk and DJ are bemoaning the death of the all-glove, no-hit starters - the Gary Pettises and Julio Cruzes of the world.

Now, I'm one who thinks that good defense is underrated, and I appreciate a good defensive player as much as anyone, but even I realise that Rey Ordonez was a liability, not an asset.
   41. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:13 AM (#1595983)
That was nice of Secret Weapon™ to make up for the error. Oh well. I can't complain with the way SW™ has been playing lately.
   42. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:13 AM (#1595984)
Secret Weapon™ self destructs. At least the Emperor will get it started next inning.
   43. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:14 AM (#1595987)
When Hawk says that he'd take a guy like Crede who can play defense over guys who can't play defense but put up good numbers, any idea who he's referring to?

I'm trying to think of some on the AL, and I can't come up with anyone. Jorge Cantu, maybe, but has Cantu played long enough to be talked about?
   44. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:15 AM (#1595988)
I always got Gary Pettis and Gary Redus confused. Redus is the one who looked like he was 70, right?

I've never had a Miller Lite in my life, and after listening to these ads all year, it's gonna stay that way for awhile.
   45. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:16 AM (#1595995)
A-Rod, maybe.
   46. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:17 AM (#1595997)
It's Enrico Palazzo Placido Polanco!
   47. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:17 AM (#1596001)
Nice 1-2-3 inning for Mark.
   48. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:19 AM (#1596004)
I always got Gary Pettis and Gary Redus confused. Redus is the one who looked like he was 70, right?

Yeah, Redus was a good-hitting lefty bat - a Ross Gload type.

Gary Pettis was an outstanding defensive centerfielder. He hit like Willie Harris - a decent eye but absolutely no power.
   49. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:19 AM (#1596008)
PH, I hope to God he wouldn't go that far...
   50. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:20 AM (#1596010)
First, Ken Harrelson is a complete idiot. I know everyone knows that, but I wanted to say so anyway.

Second, Cantú seems to be able to handle second base OK, so I don't see him as a problem at third. Moreover, he has done a very nice job for my fantasy team.

Third, if Harrelson was referring to A-Rod, he is an even bigger idiot than I think he is, because A-Rod is a very good defensive third baseman. Blalock is real good, too.
   51. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:21 AM (#1596013)
The Emperor™ has got it figured out.
   52. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:22 AM (#1596018)
When Hawk says that he’d take a guy like Crede who can play defense over guys who can’t play defense but put up good numbers, any idea who he’s referring to?

Maybe Alfonso Soriano?

Jason Giambi sprung to mind, though. He's one of the few first basemen I've seen who actually hurts a team with his glove. His skills have deteriorated quickly.

Big AB here for Konerko.
   53. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:23 AM (#1596020)
JRE, you must be thinking of someone else. Redus was a righty. He hit better than I remembered, logging OPS+ right around 100 most years, which is pretty solid for a center fielder.
   54. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:23 AM (#1596021)
A-Rod's hands were made of stone earlier in the season, but perhaps he's improved. He looked considerably worse this year than last year, somehow.
   55. Urban Faber Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:25 AM (#1596024)
Hawk and DJ are bemoaning the death of the all-glove, no-hit starters - the Gary Pettises and Julio Cruzes of the world.

They know Cristian Guzman is still starting at short, don't they?
   56. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:25 AM (#1596026)
Damnit. C'mon, Jermaine.
   57. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:26 AM (#1596031)
Damn pop-outs.
   58. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:26 AM (#1596032)
JRE, you must be thinking of someone else. Redus was a righty.

I must be.

My memory gets hazy.
   59. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:27 AM (#1596035)
I've never seen a pitcher throw the intentional walk balls farther outside than that.
   60. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:28 AM (#1596039)
Well, that sucks.

That better not come back to haunt.
   61. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:31 AM (#1596045)
Whew. Shelton makes me nervous.
   62. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:32 AM (#1596049)
Shelton has been a great midseason pickup for my fantasy team. Looks like an ogre, but he can hit.
   63. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:35 AM (#1596054)
Burly with 8 Ks.
   64. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:35 AM (#1596055)
Looks like an ogre

I was going to add that close-up shots of Shelton make me a little queasy.

I loved it earlier this year when Maggs said he missed the "Ooooh-weeeee-oooooh, Maaaagglio."

I think Soriano probably fits the bill for what Harrelson was saying, and in Soriano's case, Harrelson could be right. Soriano is pretty bad defensively.
   65. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:37 AM (#1596057)
Uribe seems to have his timing down.
   66. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:37 AM (#1596058)
Alright, Your eBay.

Bachelorette party at the Cell. Those parties have their uses.
   67. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:38 AM (#1596061)
Nice job, Juan. I don't mind that kind of first-pitch swinging.
   68. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:40 AM (#1596064)
C'mon, Emperor™...cash him in.
   69. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:40 AM (#1596065)
The Emperor™!!!

He just needs a homer.

Nook Logan is a bad outfielder.
   70. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:40 AM (#1596066)
Whatever Robertson's doing, it's not fooling Iguchi.
   71. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:42 AM (#1596068)
The man is on fire. The ball went off Logan's glove?
   72. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:42 AM (#1596070)
Yep, PH.
   73. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:43 AM (#1596074)
The ball went off Logan’s glove?

He mistimed his leap at the wall, so the ball bounced off the wall rather than go into his glove. He then stumbled after hitting the wall, giving Iguchi time to get to third.
   74. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:44 AM (#1596077)
Monroe:Buehrle::Iguchi:Robertson.

At least for tonight.
   75. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:45 AM (#1596080)
Logan seems like a Motown Scott Podsednik, except worse at getting on base.
   76. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:45 AM (#1596081)
Logan did jump a little early, but it glanced off the side of his glove, or at least that's what I thought when I saw the replay.
   77. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:48 AM (#1596086)
Mark, that 0-2 had way too much of the plate to Logan. He'll chase one.

I love Uribe's arm.
   78. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:49 AM (#1596089)
Nice job, Burly. Should be his last inning. Not particularly sharp, but worked around mistakes this time around.
   79. CWS Keith plans to boo your show at the Apollo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:50 AM (#1596091)
Twins take a 1-0 lead on the Tribe. Santana pitching, too.
   80. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:50 AM (#1596093)
And Minnesota takes a 1-0 lead.

Santana 6IP 1H 8K so far.
   81. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:51 AM (#1596097)
Sounds like one of those games where Santana goes seven scoreless, and then somebody like Jesse Crain blows it in the ninth.
   82. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:53 AM (#1596101)
We should complain abuot Rowand's power more often.

   85. Dewey, Soupuss Not Doomed to Succeed Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:54 AM (#1596107)
It feels weird to root for the Twins.

It's nice to see Rowand starting to hit the ball with some authority. The offense seems to be showing some signs of life lately.
   86. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:54 AM (#1596108)
We should complain abuot Rowand’s power more often.

Remind us tomorrow.

Hafner goes deep off Santana - 2-1 Twins in the 7th.
   93. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:58 AM (#1596129)
Twins leading 2-0 2-1 now.
   94. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:58 AM (#1596131)
Well played, PH.

Re: Jesse Crain. He's had a pretty good year, actually. I had him on my fantasy team all year until recently. I ditched him to pick up McCarthy. Crain hasn't been striking out many batters, however, a lot fewer than in the minors or during his call-up last year.
   95. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:02 AM (#1596151)
Good Lord, T.I.M.O.™ in for defense? I guess Guillen really wants to give Pods the whole day off.
   96. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:02 AM (#1596152)
I just threw Crain out there. I have Santana on my fantasy team, and I've seen him put up good lines without the win because some reliever who's supposed to be good botched it.

Is Trammell on the hot seat? He's one manager that I don't know much about, as far as strengths, weaknesses, fan gripes. I don't think he's been given great teams, so it seems like he's doing alright with what he has.
   97. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:04 AM (#1596160)
Of course, if Cliffy's going to give up dingers, T.I.M.O.™ can watch them go over the wall as well as anyone.

I have Santana, too, but wins and saves aren't categories in my league. It's saber-friendly.
   98. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:04 AM (#1596161)
I didn't hear who replaced Buehrle, so I didn't know who to curse out. C'mon, Clifford.
   99. VG Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:06 AM (#1596165)
Cliffy needs to go back in time about three months and regain his mojo.
   100. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:08 AM (#1596173)
Two deep flyouts from the ogre. He might turn into a Sox-killer before we know it.
