Big series for both teams. Hoping the Brett can get the Phils back on track.

Don't hit, don't field. What do you do, Bell?
   3. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:10 PM (#1598983)
Taveras has achieved one of the lowest OPSes I have ever seen with a .290ish average.
   4. HCO Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:12 PM (#1598988)
Phailure.
   5. GregD Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:13 PM (#1598990)
Nice, rlr.
   6. Harris Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:13 PM (#1598991)
Went to DC this weekend, was unfortunate enough to go to yesterdays game. Was happy with how Floyd pitched. He got in trouble a few times, but only gave up three on a dinger. RFK was nicer than I figured. They let you bring any water and food you want into the stadium, nice touch.

David Bell still sucks.
   7. GregD Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:14 PM (#1598992)
Ouch.
   8. Harris Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:15 PM (#1598994)
oh well. forget watching this games. We've spotted the 'stros 4 runs and were facing a good lefty. I;ll come back around the fifth and see whats up.
   9. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:15 PM (#1598995)
The way Pettitte has been pitching lately, this game is already over.

I miss you and your enormous schnozz, Andy.
   10. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:16 PM (#1598997)
Who the hell is Luke Scott?
   11. Chuck Carr Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:16 PM (#1598998)
I hate evil Brett Myers!!
   12. GregD Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:25 PM (#1599008)
Who isn't Luke Scott?
   13. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:27 PM (#1599012)
Who isn’t Luke Scott?

Based on a small sample, it would seem Luke Scott is somebody who can't hit.
   14. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:30 PM (#1599014)
Oh, man. Hit to Pettitte. Myers dun have it.
   15. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:44 PM (#1599025)
Since when does Andy strike so many guys out?
   16. GregD Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:47 PM (#1599029)
since his opponents are the phillies?
   17. stubbyc Posted: September 05, 2005 at 11:52 PM (#1599035)
Scott's a guy based on his minor league numbers is a guy who should be hitting a lot better. He's hit pretty well so far in his 2nd stint with us though.
   18. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 12:23 AM (#1599068)
Being an Apostate and all, I'm no fanboy, so believe me when I tell you that that plate ump is one major league tool.
   19. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 12:42 AM (#1599078)
When was the last time Jimmy got a mutli-hit game?
   20. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 12:44 AM (#1599079)
How is the Houston bullpen anyway?
   21. AstrosFan Posted: September 06, 2005 at 12:48 AM (#1599082)
wow. Ensberg leaves after a HBP and Andy mysteriously leaves after a masterful 86 pitches. Win or lose, not a good day.

At least Qualls was brought in as a "LOOGY" today. Maybe Garner is starting a new trend.
   22. Chuck Carr Posted: September 06, 2005 at 12:49 AM (#1599084)
Why'd they take out Pettitte?
   23. AstrosFan Posted: September 06, 2005 at 12:55 AM (#1599086)
How is the Houston bullpen anyway?

Probably very similar to the Phillies (though I don't want to speak for Philly fan). 3 guys I have supreme confidence in and crap. I think we are 4th in bp era.

cormier = gallo
madsen = qualls
wheeler = UUU
Lidge = Wagner
   24. AstrosFan Posted: September 06, 2005 at 12:58 AM (#1599088)
Why’d they take out Pettitte?

It's a reach but only thing I can think of is Myer's line drive off his leg in the third.
   25. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 12:59 AM (#1599089)
Thanks, AstrosFan.

They took out Petitte because Myers hit the ball hard off his ankle.
   26. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:00 AM (#1599092)
No way Lieby doesn't follow that up with a double play ball.
   27. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:02 AM (#1599093)
Paging Mister Howard...
   28. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:02 AM (#1599095)
WTF! Tomas?!
   29. GregD Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:03 AM (#1599096)
Lieby Awakes!
   30. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:04 AM (#1599098)
OK, so now we go with Howard and he'll hit into the long awaited double play. Now I get it.
   31. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:10 AM (#1599104)
Over/under on pitches Silky sees here? Hurry.
   32. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:12 AM (#1599108)
Heh.
   33. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:14 AM (#1599110)
Oh no! I hope he doesn't go with Proven Veteran 1st Class Lofton because of the righty! I'll bet J.Mike gets arrested for battery on his way to the plate anyway.
   34. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:15 AM (#1599111)
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?

Tucker?!!!?!?!?!??

#$%#$^#$%@%@%#^!
   35. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:17 AM (#1599113)
I don't ####### believe he pingh hit with Ticker there. I really really reall really really really really don't believe it. I'm stunned.
   36. GregD Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:20 AM (#1599116)
But Tucker is a professional hitter, as our broadcasters kept repeating. Don't you understand? He's a professional hitter.
   37. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:28 AM (#1599122)
Which one was that? LA? He kept going on and on about how it wasn't Bell's fault he commited an error that contibuted to the runs. We deserve better.
   38. AstrosFan Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:35 AM (#1599129)
Which one was that? LA?

Ah yes, as Dierker always says the most valuable player in Astros franchise history.
   39. Chuck Carr Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:41 AM (#1599141)
STOP TRYING TO WALK AUSMUS!!!
   40. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:52 AM (#1599157)
Oops.
   41. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:53 AM (#1599160)
Don't mean nuttin' tho.
   42. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:57 AM (#1599168)
See.
   43. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 01:58 AM (#1599171)
More heartbreak imminent.
   44. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:00 AM (#1599173)
There goes the Phils last chance to tie it.
   45. Chuck Carr Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:02 AM (#1599174)
Dammit why didn't Kata score?? I'm on gamecast here.
   46. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:03 AM (#1599176)
Somwhow I think Wags would have a better chance.

Actually they should totally bunt.
   47. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:04 AM (#1599178)
Good job by Lane in RF. He had very little chance.
   48. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:04 AM (#1599180)
Chavez looked very, very bad in that AB.
   49. fuzzycopper Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:05 AM (#1599184)
Why wasn't Chavez pinch running in the first place? After seeing him foul off a pitch that BOUNCED, how could anyone consider him a legitimate threat with the bat?
   50. Chuck Carr Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:06 AM (#1599185)
I still can't believe Endy Chavez is on this damn team. what a worthless, worthless player.
   51. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:11 AM (#1599199)
Holy mackeral is Leslie Gudel ever way preggers. Yeesh.
   52. fuzzycopper Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:13 AM (#1599201)
Hey, give John Marzano a cupie doll -- Why was Chavez pinch hitting and not pinch running?
   53. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:16 AM (#1599206)
fuzzy, Johnny Marz said the same thing just now on the TV. But he says he would have scored if he had pinch hit. Not sure if that's true, but he woulda had a better chance than Kata.
   54. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:19 AM (#1599210)
Pinch Run, not hit. Boy am I sleepy tonight.
   55. PhillyBooster Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:20 AM (#1599212)
Chuck,

Rollins hit the ball harder than I have ever seen him hit in before. It was in the right field corner by the time Kata hit second, the RF got to it quickly and threw a rope home. It was in the infield (on the way to the catcher) before Kata touched third.

The rosters have expanded to 40 men. That means that there were at least 39 potential batters who were better choices than Endy Chavez.

Saddest of all, one of those better choices was Jose Offerman.
   56. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:22 AM (#1599218)
Yeah, PB, I think he hit it so hard it doesn't matter if Endy were running.
   57. fuzzycopper Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:29 AM (#1599230)
but he woulda had a better chance than Kata

I don't think Chavez would've scored but... sheesh... you pinch run with Kata and hit with Chavez? Inconceivable! I thought they'd fall short of the playoffs before the season began, so their struggles in the standings aren't all that surprising, but must they shoot themselves in the foot (feet?) with bizarre managerial moves and ridiculous bench options? Couldn't the organization at least PRETEND to be marginally competant? That's all I'm asking for -- the mere illusion of intelligence. Apparently even that is too much to ask.
   58. PatrickInTheWoods, Apostate Posted: September 06, 2005 at 02:36 AM (#1599243)
Apparently even that is too much to ask.

Yes.
   59. GregD Posted: September 06, 2005 at 03:49 AM (#1599344)
much too much.
   60. gfoxcook Posted: October 22, 2005 at 04:22 AM (#1697599)
Taveras won't be remembered for his on-base percentage or his OPS from 2005, no... he'll be remembered for his 71 infield hits, his dozens of BUNT hits, and his evolving and massively-improving defensive play in center field, including mastering the wide expanse that is Minute Maid Park's CF + Tal's Hill.

Anywho, I'll take a 4-3 victory to continue what would become a 12-game winning streak over the Phillies ANY day. And I lived in Philly for 4 years in the 90s, BTW.
