In the six games in September thus far, the Sox have thrown six different starters out there, and they've each gotten the win. Now that's a turn through the rotation.

C'mon, Conde™, keep it going.

White Sox farmhand wins Triple Crown.

I can't wait to see him in Chicago.....

Parking my car.

Daigle is my age (born 9/79), and he's playing in hi-A. I'd be pretty confident in calling him an organizational player and nothing more.
   4. More Dewey is Always Good Posted: September 07, 2005 at 09:33 PM (#1603020)
Yeah, Daigle took apart the Sally League, but he didn't impress too much in Charlotte.

Still, good for him.

Is Leo related to Casey Daigle?

Secret Weapon™ will stay at third today and hit second.

Bobby Vinton™, now Daddy/Papa BV, makes his triumphant return to the Sox lineup.

Jurassic will DH, even after looking horrible at the plate last night. I think Ross Gload is officially in someone's doghouse.

And, Harris will play second tonight and hit ninth.

Watching Blum hit makes me appreciate the Secret Weapon™ more.

I was thinking we'd see a different lineup tomorrow if it was a day game but no, it is another night game.

Hope Contreras keeps it up. I kinda have a bad feeling about this one, but certainly no complaints about things this month.
   10. Bull Pain Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:15 AM (#1603452)
Leo was horrific when I saw him at Charlotte. He's not even AA material. I doubt he's in the Sox organization next year.
   11. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:26 AM (#1603481)
Seems like every time I go to the Cell, the "Farm Report sponsored by Best's Kosher" section of the game features guys like Greg Norton or the 30-plus DH from the late 1990s/early 2000s whose name escapes me.
   12. More Dewey is Always Good Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:28 AM (#1603489)
the 30-plus DH from the late 1990s/early 2000s whose name escapes me.

Jorge Toca?

Ken Williams stocked Charlotte with a bunch of AAAA hitters. The pitching staff is full of crappy soft-tossers. The real prospects (aside from Anderson and McCarthy) are in AA or below.

JRE, it was funny, The Cheat posted BTF's White Sox Preview at his blog, and I looked over all the comments.

I can't believe how the Garcia deal, at the beginning of this season, was so looked down upon. I know I was one of the people who didn't like it at the time it was made, but Olivo has become nothing, Reed looks to be a decent yet unspectacular player -- as well as expendable with Anderson/Sweeney/Young all doing so well, and Morse -- well, I don't know what to think about Morse, especially with the latest suspension.
   14. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:38 AM (#1603506)
I went back a while ago and looked at the Hermanson signing thread here ... if I remember Vince came out the best in the comments. I was saying things like "it's rebuilding year, only KW doesn't know it yet" ...

Glad to be wrong though!

And I wasn't the only one - I have a magazine that came out before the season with three people on the cover - Prior, Sheets and Pudge Rodriguez. Sox picked for fourth.
   15. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:54 AM (#1603557)
I remember writing a piece about how Kenny Williams was playing Good Cop/Bad Cop. Pods trade - bad. El Duque signing - good. Sven signing - bad. Jermaine signing - good.

Then when considering that the Blue Jays signed Schoeneweis for as much as we're paying Sven, it seems even better.
   16. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:56 AM (#1603566)
That's funny, PH, because most of the casual Sox fans were thinking the exact opposite of those moves.

Pods move = good.

El Duque = bad.

Sven = good.

Jermaine = bad.
   17. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:57 AM (#1603570)
Konerko!!!!
   18. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 12:59 AM (#1603576)
I liked MGL's comment on the Garcia trade:

Just swapping Olivo for Garcia alone is a terrible, terrible move for the WS. That's what stupid teams (e.g., WS) who have no concept of how to evaluate players or trades do - they make stupid trades like that and don't know that they made a bad one, becasue they literally have no "tools" to be able to evaluate the actual worth of Garcia, Olivo, Alomar, etc.
   19. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:02 AM (#1603581)
Paulie homered? Awesome. Gameday Audio is sucking for me again.

I've really come to respect him. I didn't think he was anything special entering the season, but he's handled the contract issue like a pro, he's been steady in the cleanup spot for a team that sorely needs it. He's even better with the glove than he was in years past.

He'll probably get big money somewhere else, but he deserves it.
   20. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:03 AM (#1603587)
I didn't envision Hermanson as the closer either, I thought he would be the No. 5 starter or the set-up guy. But he was pitching the best of anyone when the closer job opened up.

As for Garcia, I remember not liking the trade, but thinking that at least they were trying something. I didn't know all that much about Reed, but I think he'll be OK - especially if he can play center as he has had to in Seattle. The other guys aren't probably going to do too much.
   21. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:08 AM (#1603605)
Today I was thinking about the guys who were in Kenny's offseason plans that didn't work out. Vizquel, especially.

What would've happened if we got Omar? Uribe moves to second, so we don't sign Iguchi, or Uribe moves to third and we sign Iguchi? Would we have had the money for the Emperor™ or Bobby Vinton™ if we got Vizquel?

Now, if we got Russ Ortiz, everything would've been blown to hell. He would've been one expensive embodiment of all our No. 5 starters over the previous years. El Duque is old and creaky, but he generally keeps the team's head above water when he starts.
   22. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:14 AM (#1603625)
Hopefully that DP on the hit-and-run will tell Ozzie that sending medium-to-slow runners doesn't help much.

Your eBay!

Leadoff walk ...
   24. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:22 AM (#1603653)
BitC™ is out on the mound tonight. Any other team besides KC and we're probably down 4-1.

Wow... I guess I wasn't here when MGL made a comment on the Garcia trade like that. It'd be nice to see someone say, "I was wrong about the Garcia trade."
   25. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:22 AM (#1603655)
The Cubans love letting leadoff men on.
   26. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:24 AM (#1603664)
Marlon™!

Gotta love the 9-6 put out...

Sweeney! Marlon™! Your eBay!

They all get credit.
   28. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:24 AM (#1603671)
It’d be nice to see someone say, “I was wrong about the Garcia trade.”

Don't get much of that around this site.
   29. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:41 AM (#1603747)
Smallball is not the Sox's friend tonight.
   30. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:43 AM (#1603758)
AiTC™ finally emerges with a 1-2-3 inning.
   31. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:45 AM (#1603768)
I went back a while ago and looked at the Hermanson signing thread here ... if I remember Vince came out the best in the comments.

Maybe. I also seem to remember writing something to the effect that while KW doesn't make too many mistakes on long, high-money contracts, he makes a series of small ones each year, and I think I pointed to Svengoolie™ as one of those mistakes. I said the cumulative effect is almost the same as the one big mistake.

Two more wins and the Sox will have as many as I predicted. I did better than Joe Sheehan, at least.
   32. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:47 AM (#1603778)
I think I predicted 85 wins, so they've already beat that.

Another GDP.
   33. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:49 AM (#1603793)
Since the playoffs are a crapshoot, I'm hoping to see the Sox win 100 games ... they have to go 14-11 from this point to get there. At the rate Cleveland is going, the Sox will have to win 100 to take the division.
   34. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:51 AM (#1603802)
85 wins

Wait, that's what I predicted, too. 85-77, not 87-75.

MGL’s comment on the Garcia trade

I agree that he was wrong, but looking at it, I do wonder if he was talking about the value of García for the rest of 2004 only since he was going to be a free agent. Even with that, I'd say he was wrong.
   35. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:55 AM (#1603817)
I had a more general range. I said they'd have a better record then last year, which I believe (??) was 84 or 83 wins. I think I predicted 86-90 and a second place finish.
   36. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:56 AM (#1603824)
Big K there. Let's get through the rest of this one without letting Sweeney bat again.
   37. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:56 AM (#1603826)
Contreras didn't look real good early on, got lucky that some balls were hit right at guys and no runs scored, but has really settled in since the fifth.

Nice job, AitC™.
   38. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:56 AM (#1603829)
Nice to see Sweeney retired.

El Conde™ has retired nine in a row. Four walks tonight -- first walks in four starts. Usually, though, four walks would mean an exit in the fifth. I know it's the Royals, but still, I think some of it is progress for El Conde™.
   39. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 01:59 AM (#1603841)
He's gotten better at shrugging off runners. So they're gonna steal off him. Big deal.
   40. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:06 AM (#1603858)
Kid in the stands has a sign saying, "Pauley hit it here."

Jane Pauley is not on the White Sox.
   41. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:10 AM (#1603880)
Misspelled signs are always fun. I can't remember when apostrophes became such a confusing ordeal.

"Go Cub's!"
   42. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:12 AM (#1603888)
Is catcher Gustavo Molina at Winston-Salem from the famous catching Molina family? Los receptores Molinas.

Nice play, Pods.
   43. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:14 AM (#1603900)
Was that a legitimately good catch -- no late break or anything?
   44. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:17 AM (#1603910)
I think they both were pretty good catches, but it's harder to tell on TV than at the park when you can see the jump he got.

Way to go, El Conde™. Take care of business, Fat Percy™.
   45. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:18 AM (#1603915)
Yeah, the one hit to foul territory was good, as was the one in the gap.

The first one just hung up in the air, allowing him to get under it, but I was more impressed by the second one -- those are the liners that usually give him lots of trouble.
   46. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:20 AM (#1603926)
Attaboy, Bobby. Attaboy, AiTC™.

Let's get some insurance.
   47. Bull Pain Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:22 AM (#1603938)
Shingo is in for the Mets vs the Braves in the bottom of the 10th with a 1-run lead and the bases loaded and no out after Looper choked.
   48. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:23 AM (#1603945)
I hope Shingo does well, though he's facing the bases loaded with 0 outs as we speak. Thanks for the heads up.
   49. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:25 AM (#1603953)
Gets Francoeur to pop out.
   50. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:26 AM (#1603954)
Two pop-outs.
   51. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:29 AM (#1603969)
Burgos made Vinton™ look pretty bad there. His daughter is Ava Jordan Pierzynski...
   52. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:30 AM (#1603971)
Ozzie is trying to turn Jenks into Rod Beck.
   53. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:30 AM (#1603972)
Shingo blows the save as Langerhans doubles to the gap. More of the same, I guess.

Let's hope Sven doesn't suffer the same fate.
   54. Bull Pain Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:30 AM (#1603976)
Leaving in Shingo to face the lefty...not wise.
   55. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:31 AM (#1603985)
Or Jenks, rather.
   56. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:32 AM (#1603988)
Ozzie is trying to turn Jenks into Rod Beck.

Heh. Then Jenks' arm will dangle like that, too.

I have no problem bringing a lefty here, but I would prefer Neal Cotts.
   57. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:33 AM (#1603991)
OLR making a late appearance.

Why not just leave Jenks in?
   58. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:33 AM (#1603995)
It's Marte time.
   59. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:35 AM (#1604001)
Stairs' splits aren't that big a difference, if I remember correctly. Could be wrong, though.
   60. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:35 AM (#1604003)
Ozzie comes out to yell at Marte, then back to the dugout.
   61. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:35 AM (#1604005)
Of course, it doesn't make a difference when you hit the ####### guy.
   62. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:36 AM (#1604012)
I bet I haven't learned in class the Spanish that Ozzie just used on Marte, but I also bet I would have understood it.

What the #### is Marte doing?
   63. Bull Pain Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:36 AM (#1604013)
I'm really sick of Marte. I know Cotts has reverse (although both are excellent) splits, but he needs to be these situations while Marte needs to be pitching when Vizcaino otherwise would.
   64. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:37 AM (#1604014)
Jesus ####### Christ.
   65. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:38 AM (#1604021)
He might bury him after this outing.

So who now?
   66. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:39 AM (#1604023)
Thank goodness Jeff Brantley isn't calling the game...
   67. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:39 AM (#1604025)
I hope Sven cleans up this mess.
   68. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:40 AM (#1604028)
And it's Sweeney.
   69. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:40 AM (#1604029)
Who could have guessed that Sweeney would come up? Who?
   70. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:41 AM (#1604031)
Terrence Long up next? Put Sweeney on.
   71. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:41 AM (#1604032)
I almost hope Svengoolie™ doesn't clean this one up, just because maybe it'll hammer home for Guillen that his renewed trust in Marte is faulty.
   72. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:42 AM (#1604035)
Nice pitch on 3-0. Jesus.
   73. Vrhovnik Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:42 AM (#1604037)
Just remember that TLong is there behind Sweeney.
   74. Urban Faber Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:43 AM (#1604039)
Unbelievable. Ozzie pads his 1-run record.
   75. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:43 AM (#1604042)
And that's a White Sox winner!

What a weird game.
   76. CWS Keith plans to [omitted] at [omitted] Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:43 AM (#1604043)
And that's a White Sox Winner!!!! Thank you, Dustin!

   77. Bull Pain Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:44 AM (#1604045)
Way to go Sven! Now go punch Ozzie in his stupid face.
   78. My guest will be Jermaine Allensworth Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:45 AM (#1604050)
And that's a White Sox Winner!

Having Marte accountable would've been okay, but I wanted AiTC™ to get the win. He's got 11 wins and an ERA under 4.00 now. I'm happy for the big fella.
   79. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:45 AM (#1604054)
Belatedly, cue Steam.

Almost forgot.
   80. VG Posted: September 08, 2005 at 02:49 AM (#1604064)
Oh, you're right, of course, PH. I didn't really want them to lose. I was just pissed about Marte.

And damnit, I have Cotts on my fantasy team. Heh.
