I sure hope that crowd is going to fill up some over the next 15-20 minutes, because right now it looks pretty meager. Good baseball towns give a team like this good support all year long, not just on opening day, weekends, and during the home stretch.

First live-chatter of the 2013 season for me. Couldn't do Opening Day. And this is Charlie and Dave's 7th anniversary of doing Nationals' broadcasts, they are telling me.

Oh good, I ought to be able to catch tomorrow's game live, too.

I had Kevin Slowey on a Diamond Mind team once, so I'm sort of rooting for him not to get embarrassed. And Miguel Olivo once hit a home run for me in his first-ever PA in a Strat league I was in.

Nice first inning by my man Nat Gio.
   6. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 07:21 PM (#4403600)
Yes, this is reminding me of my Diamond Mind Kevin Slowey games.
   7. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 07:22 PM (#4403602)
Nope, that ball's just not going to carry at all on a night like tonight.
   8. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 07:47 PM (#4403627)
There goes the no-hitter. Never take a man with two Christian names for granted.
   9. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:04 PM (#4403653)
The Marlins and the Astros will be fighting tooth and nail for offensive ineptitude all season long. If I'm an opposing pitcher, there's almost no good reason to ever give Stanton a really good pitch to hit.

Kotchman looked like he was auditioning to be the sixth Racing Rushmore or something.

Nat Gio!!!
   12. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:24 PM (#4403677)
Poor Kevin Slowey, giving up a homer to a .085 career hitter.
   13. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:28 PM (#4403686)
Slowey's got one more K than Gio in this game, but one fewer homer. Can he fix that next inning?
   14. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:33 PM (#4403689)
It's pitch around Giancarlo time.
   15. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:35 PM (#4403694)
Wow. Nice job Gio!
   16. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:40 PM (#4403708)
Well, he got the next best thing. Walking the pitcher, tut-tut.
   17. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:41 PM (#4403711)
Good for Zim. Not enough triples any more.
   18. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:42 PM (#4403716)
Jageler thought that was a goner.
   19. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:46 PM (#4403720)
Slowey didn't get embarrassed. So that's OK.
   20. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:49 PM (#4403723)
Well, that worked. You've got to give them that.
   21. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 08:57 PM (#4403731)
I love that A-Ha is now the Nationals' 7th-inning 'tradition'.
   22. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:04 PM (#4403740)
It's a lot better than when we ripped off "Sweet Caroline" from the Red Sox that one year, which was really pathetic.
   23. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:06 PM (#4403743)
Way to run his ass over Roger!!
   24. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:10 PM (#4403749)
Slowey may have avoided embarrassment, but I don't think Olivo has.

I had to learn that song in French when I was in high school. So I am predisposed to hold it in contempt.

Meanwhile, I liked A-Ha, back in the day.

Storen apparently hasn't graced the inside of the barbershop since choking in the playoffs.

The Marlins and the Astros will be fighting tooth and nail for offensive ineptitude all season long.

The Marlins have only three hits. The same as Monday. I don't see how this team is going to score runs outside of bases-empty blasts by Stanton.
   28. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:23 PM (#4403773)
Man, do I love the Las Vegas Kid.
   29. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:32 PM (#4403787)
That pitch was flat out filthy.
   30. Joey B. Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:41 PM (#4403794)
BANG, ZOOM, back-to-back shutout Curly W in the books!!!
   31. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:41 PM (#4403796)
Well done, chaps.
   32. fra paolo Posted: April 03, 2013 at 09:43 PM (#4403798)
'We need to close these windows,' says a relieved radio duo. Apparently Dave Van Horn, from the Marlins' radio, had to have the fingertip of his glove cut off so he could use his iPad.

Huh. I'd have thought the omnichatters would be the final death blow to the individual game chatters. Guess not.

They are.
