No love for the Tejada RBI?

I'm enjoying the 9 homegrowners today.

It's a nice thing to have the nine homegrown players but Cohen is kind of pushing a little too hard in praising Omar for it and calling out people who've rated the Mets' system badly. It isn't like there's a bunch of All-Stars in this line-up.
   4. PreservedFish Posted: April 26, 2012 at 02:37 PM (#4116925)
I was expecting him to note that this situation is also caused by injuries and the Mets' plummeting payroll. He sounded more like a house organ there than he usually does.
   5. PreservedFish Posted: April 26, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4116927)
But, with that said, the Mets development people should feel proud of this lineup. Valdespin is the one guy that looks clearly a future bench player - all the others are totally reasonable starters at this level, even if they aren't a bunch of All-Stars.

Thole has been so much better than what everyone thought he would be, both defensively and offensively. Just last year there were strong whispers that pitchers preferred to pitch to Paulino, and now he's playing day-after-night games, games against lefties, etc. (although that may just be because Nickeas really really sucks)

Nieuwenhuis just looks like he belongs. He's like Ike when he first came up, totally mellow.

Now, if anyone can just take out Gaby Sanchez....
   7. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 02:49 PM (#4116936)
Does anyone recall if they could have possibly gotten the out at home on that double play? I'm not liking us scoring much today.

COUGH

His mellow has turned into a coma.

You mean Ike? Hardly in a coma.

It's not just that he's struggling, it's that he's turned into a petulant child. One of these days he's gonna belt an umpire.

COUGH

I was always a Thole fan. But I do think about you whenever Tejada does something good.

No. Runners were on first and third, right? If they did that, the runner would have stayed and it would have been bases loaded, no outs.
   13. PreservedFish Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:06 PM (#4116951)
The opposing catcher just bunted for a hit, and stole second base. Is he fast or just really crafty?
   14. PreservedFish Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:08 PM (#4116955)
Wow. Terrible call at first.
   15. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:18 PM (#4116966)
But I do think about you whenever Tejada does something good.

Which is happening less often than I was hoping, actually.
   16. PreservedFish Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:24 PM (#4116974)
Oh, I think Tejada's been pretty solid.
   17. RB in NYC (Now Semi-Retired from BBTF) Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:27 PM (#4116978)
That was a brutal call at first.

Also, was Hanley's swing always 20 miles long? He doesn't look like he could connect with any kind of fastball.
   18. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:38 PM (#4116983)
This would be an acceptable time for Ike to stop hitting like Rey Ordonez.
   19. RB in NYC (Now Semi-Retired from BBTF) Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:40 PM (#4116984)
Jesus, Bell looks horrible
   20. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:43 PM (#4116989)
Oh god, bases loaded.
   21. Ravecc Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:46 PM (#4116993)
It's sad when Justin Turner is the best bat off the bench.

   22. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:50 PM (#4116995)
This is epic.
   23. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:51 PM (#4116996)
Tie game!
   24. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:51 PM (#4116997)
Nice AB by Turner.

Still.... 0-15 with the bases loaded. ;-)
   25. Ravecc Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:51 PM (#4116998)
Yay!

My apologies to Justin.
   26. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:52 PM (#4116999)
Please don't hit into a DP, Hairtson, suck less than I expect you to.
   27. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:54 PM (#4117000)
If Bell walks in the winning run, that will be hilarious.
   28. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:55 PM (#4117001)
Christ Hairston. Well, it wasn't a DP, at least.
   29. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:56 PM (#4117002)
Thankfully, he sucked even more than you expected him to, Lassus.
   30. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:57 PM (#4117003)
Nieuwenhero!
   31. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:57 PM (#4117005)
WOW

That is awesome.

Life is good.
   32. Lassus Posted: April 26, 2012 at 03:58 PM (#4117006)
Howie Rose is very excited.
   33. Ravecc Posted: April 26, 2012 at 04:00 PM (#4117009)
Captain Kirk 2-out gamewinning hit with the bases loaded? Life is good indeed.
   34. PreservedFish Posted: April 26, 2012 at 04:03 PM (#4117014)
My god. Nice ending to that game. Bell threw almost 50 pitches: how often does that happen? Guillen is nuts.
