I will not be cowed by a .500 record and a depressing medical report!
   2. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:00 PM (#3237111)
Remind me to never ever move again.
   3. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:00 PM (#3237112)
I've never been so disappointed to have Reyes leading off.

Hopefully Nieve can keep up the magic.
   4. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:05 PM (#3237116)
Nieve has won 3 games so far?

Boy, I have been busy.
   5. Bob Koo Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:06 PM (#3237120)
Argenis hitting leadoff and Castillo hitting 8th. Uh... why?
   6. Bob Koo Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:07 PM (#3237121)
Btw, having Ollie Perez piggyback off Redding's start is a ridiculously inane idea. But then again, that's Jerry for you.
   7. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:08 PM (#3237124)
I took a mental health day and didn't watch last night's game.

I picked a good night.
   8. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:09 PM (#3237129)
Yeah, A. Reyes / Murphy isn't exactly an electric top of the lineup. On the other hand, I'm not that scared of Looper.
   9. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:10 PM (#3237131)
How much Evans isn't playing? Murphy needs to be shot at this point.
   10. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:10 PM (#3237132)
Forget the opener. You could make the argument that Looper ruined the 2005 season.
   11. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:10 PM (#3237134)
much = could
   12. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:11 PM (#3237138)
Blah.
   13. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:11 PM (#3237139)
Um, "could" doesn't help that sentence! Assuming Looper's similar to when he was with us, you want to get as many lefties in there as possible, so that would explain Murphy over Evans.
   14. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:12 PM (#3237142)
How could Evans isn't playing?

Is there a third choice, Banta? ;-)
   15. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:13 PM (#3237143)
Let's try "come" instead.
   16. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:13 PM (#3237144)
Maybe I should take a mental health day.
   17. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:14 PM (#3237146)
Maybe I should take a mental health day.
   18. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:15 PM (#3237148)
...

No further comment.
   19. Freeballin' (Tales of Met Power) Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:17 PM (#3237151)
This team stinks.
   20. Bob Koo Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:17 PM (#3237153)
Nieve will turn into a pumpkin tonight. Evans needs to play. Murphy doesn't deserve any PT at all.
   21. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:18 PM (#3237156)
Murphy doesn't even really deserve a roster spot. He should be in the minors. Bring up, uh...

Uh...
   22. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:19 PM (#3237161)
Where is our Nieve magic?
   23. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:20 PM (#3237164)
That was fortunate!
   24. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:20 PM (#3237165)
That was one of the most hilarious DPs I've ever seen.
   25. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:20 PM (#3237166)
Murphy almost overthrew that. But I guess I might be getting picky now.
   26. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:21 PM (#3237167)
That was, uh, fortuitous.
   27. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:26 PM (#3237174)
Yay, a doink hit!

Man, the interior of that stadium looks just weird. I'm really glad we don't have a sliding roof in New Shea.

Come on, Fernando, they are trying to let you play, and you're kind of choking.
   28. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:27 PM (#3237177)
Wow, consecutive hits!
   29. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:29 PM (#3237180)
OK Slappy, time for an RBI.
   30. AJM Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:30 PM (#3237181)
Argenis hitting leadoff and Castillo hitting 8th. Uh... why?

When asking these types of questions just remember who the manager is.
   31. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:31 PM (#3237182)
I thought the Mets might score there.

The fates laugh at my arrogance.
   32. AJM Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:32 PM (#3237185)
Todd Pratt, good memories.
   33. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:33 PM (#3237186)
Mets could use like four bats, Keith.
   34. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:35 PM (#3237189)
Outfield? HAH!
   35. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:35 PM (#3237190)
"That Billy Beane thing out in Oakland, that stolen bases are a bad thing unless you can guarantee a success."

Yeah, Gary. That's exactly what it is. #######.
   36. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:36 PM (#3237191)
OK then, time for another DP, I guess.
   37. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:36 PM (#3237192)
Nieve is missing his extra oomph and control tonight. This should turn horrible very quickly.
   38. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:37 PM (#3237193)
Heinous.
   39. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:37 PM (#3237194)
Ayup.
   40. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:37 PM (#3237195)
Oh, Our Heinous.
   41. AJM Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:38 PM (#3237196)
Ain't this team great?
   42. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:38 PM (#3237197)
For the love of Fernando...
   43. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:39 PM (#3237198)
When Santana isn't pitching, are the Mets better than the Nationals at this point?
   44. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:39 PM (#3237199)
Come on. That HAS to be a DP.
   45. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:41 PM (#3237200)
All right, could have been worse.
   46. AJM Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:44 PM (#3237204)
"That Billy Beane thing out in Oakland, that stolen bases are a bad thing unless you can guarantee a success."

Yeah, Gary. That's exactly what it is. #######.

The weird part of all this is that no one seems to acknowledge that being caught stealing is bad! "He's just being agressive, that's what you want."
   47. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:46 PM (#3237206)
Way to make him work, guys.
   48. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:46 PM (#3237207)
Beautiful inning! I see we aren't bothering even taking pitches now, eh Daniel?
   49. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:50 PM (#3237209)
That was pummeled. Sigh.
   50. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:50 PM (#3237212)
The weird part of all this is that no one seems to acknowledge that being caught stealing is bad! "He's just being agressive, that's what you want."

It actually makes sense because it's the same reason why OBP has been and is still not fully appreciated and why sacrifice bunting is still acceptable... people just don't get that making an out is literally the worst thing that you can do offensively in baseball.
   51. AJM Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:50 PM (#3237213)
Well, it didn't go 500 feet, that that!
   52. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:54 PM (#3237219)
"Doesn't have a classic baseball body, just looks like he can play."

Gary has me on that one. I have no ####### idea what he's talking about.
   53. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:56 PM (#3237223)
GET OUR HEINOUS AWAY FROM MY BASEBALL TEAM.
   54. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:56 PM (#3237224)
I think Gary means he's a little too chubby to be "scrappy".

These Heinous-Murphy plays are adventurous.
   55. Lassus Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:56 PM (#3237225)
Seven hits! Egads.

NOTE: Not abandoning the team, still watching, just also working.
   56. Banta Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:57 PM (#3237226)
Nice play, Murph! Can't believe he got him.

Our Heinous is just a brutal player.
   57. AJM Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:57 PM (#3237228)
If he looks like he can play wouldn't that be a classic body?
   58. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 29, 2009 at 11:58 PM (#3237229)
Gary just means he's white and scrappy.
   59. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:01 AM (#3237234)
This team can't win with David in a minislump. They're lucky to score a run.
   60. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:04 AM (#3237235)
Come on, Fernando, time for some RBI here, an extra-base hit.
   61. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:04 AM (#3237236)
Come on, Fernando. Do something spectacular. You're the only one who has an upside.
   62. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:05 AM (#3237237)
sigh
   63. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:08 AM (#3237242)
Can we stop playing Murphy, Reyes and Schneider?
   64. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:08 AM (#3237243)
Bases loaded. Inning over.
   65. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:08 AM (#3237244)
Need a slap here...
   66. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:08 AM (#3237246)
I have no faith in Crappy.

I may have mentioned this before.
   67. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:10 AM (#3237248)
Schneider?

And play Santos? Barf, yack, puke.
   68. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:10 AM (#3237251)
You would think the Mets would get lucky and bloop one in.

No.
   69. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:14 AM (#3237260)
I had no idea Larry David was in the Brewers' dugout.
   70. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:16 AM (#3237262)
Barf, yack, puke.
   71. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:16 AM (#3237265)
And... completely falling apart now.
   72. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:16 AM (#3237266)
Eeep. Trouble in the land of Nieve.
   73. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:17 AM (#3237267)
Could the Mets get a decent prospect for Sheffield?
   74. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:19 AM (#3237272)
They aren't gonna bunt. See, they're smart enough to know not to give a struggling pitcher an out.
   75. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:19 AM (#3237274)
Everyone's footwork today is exceptionally poor. It just looks bad.
   76. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:24 AM (#3237280)
Elmer Dessens! We're saved!

Seriously, though, Nieve's been awesome until today, this wasn't unexpected.
   77. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:25 AM (#3237283)
Holy Moley.
   78. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:25 AM (#3237284)
Church! Schneider!
   79. Karl from NY Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:25 AM (#3237285)
Could the Mets get a decent prospect for Sheffield?

Omar won't try. The Mets won't fall out of the race by the deadline. And remember that within 10 games is in the race to the Wilpons.
   80. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:26 AM (#3237286)
Wow. Can't believe they sent Looper. Good throw, Churchy.
   81. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:42 AM (#3237295)
Maybe he should turn around and knock Reyes out of the game like that.
   82. Bob Koo Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:49 AM (#3237300)
Let's see, we're struggling for offense, so let's bat our two worst hitters first. Brilliant!
   83. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:51 AM (#3237304)
It's Casey Castillo!
   84. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:52 AM (#3237305)
Schneider!!
   85. Brian White Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:53 AM (#3237307)
Oh, man. That's horrible.
   86. AJM Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:53 AM (#3237309)
Heh, I'm barely paying attention. I heard "he drops the popup" and said \"####### ridiculous" because I thought it was the Mets.
   87. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:54 AM (#3237311)
Heh - I doubt anyone could have predicted us being on the receiving ends of one of THOSE.
   88. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:03 AM (#3237318)
Ha, I fell asleep. I just backed up the DVR to see what happened though. Ridiculous.
   89. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:03 AM (#3237319)
Well, maybe I should go back to sleep.
   90. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:03 AM (#3237320)
Yeah, probably had no chance at that one.
   91. AJM Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:04 AM (#3237321)
Not good.
   92. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:04 AM (#3237322)
Ah... not so good here.
   93. Bob Koo Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:05 AM (#3237323)
He's not ready. Send him down, please.
   94. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:06 AM (#3237325)
Useful. Useful.
   95. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:10 AM (#3237328)
Ah, #### it
   96. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:10 AM (#3237329)
This is demoralizing.
   97. AJM Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:10 AM (#3237330)
Perfect. Maybe I'll go to sleep too.
   98. Banta Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:10 AM (#3237331)
Well, there's a turn around. Stokes, not so good.
   99. Lassus Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:11 AM (#3237333)
As far as Fernando not being ready based on one shallow fly, please. He's been better than they expected in CF so far, actually.

If you send him down, it's for his hitting so far.
   100. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2009 at 01:11 AM (#3237334)
Unreal. I can't tell you how terrible Casey was during his time with the Cubs. This is typical.
