No matter what happens tonight, the fact that Beltran won't need surgery makes this a fantastic day. Whew.
   2. twon8 Posted: June 30, 2009 at 11:01 PM (#3238259)
Unfortunately, knowing Wright and Sheffield won't play tomorrow makes this game much more a must win.
   3. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:05 AM (#3238320)
Tomorrow's lineup is really going to rival some of the all-time worst Mets starting nines.
   4. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:10 AM (#3238323)
At least Johan is pitching, won't make this game a complete waste.
   5. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:14 AM (#3238325)
D-Wright!
   6. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:15 AM (#3238326)
Verducci doesn't include Johan on his all-stars. That makes plenty of sense.

David!
   7. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:21 AM (#3238334)
That makes plenty of sense.

Of course. He only had room for 13 pitchers.
   8. How to lose a guy in jemile weeks Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:25 AM (#3238337)
Ryan Braun is good.

And man does prince have a lot of rbi...and on base.
   9. Srul Itza Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:26 AM (#3238338)
With that last single, Sheff is now sporting a line of .294/.403/.524/.927, and an OPS+ probably north of 143 (though god-only-knows what the park factors really are for Citifield).

Must be due to the benefits of dropping down to AAAA.
   10. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 12:28 AM (#3238339)
Omar needs to try to get someone to overpay for Sheff.
   11. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:02 AM (#3238363)
That was strike three.
   12. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:11 AM (#3238374)
David hit a homerun? I don't believe it. I can't even imagine what it would look like.

I agree wholeheartedly with Rask's first post. Beltran having that surgery would have really, really, really sucked. I want Beltran to be able to stay in center for several more years and try to get people to notice that he's a HoFer.
   13. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:11 AM (#3238375)
Where is everyone tonight? Even for a Johan start...for shame.
   14. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:14 AM (#3238379)
I just walked in -

Holy crap, we're winning!
   15. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:15 AM (#3238380)
Dub hit a dinger? WOW.
   16. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:15 AM (#3238381)
The chatterers have been demoralized, I think.

I missed a Wright home run? GODDAMNIT
   17. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:19 AM (#3238384)
I'm watching, but I'm playing three poker tournaments and watching another one, so not much time to chatter.
   18. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:20 AM (#3238386)
Tough pitch to get a walk on.
   19. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:21 AM (#3238387)
I'm playing three poker tournaments

Ahhhh it's satellite season, isn't it?
   20. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:22 AM (#3238388)
Only the Mets. Only the Mets.
   21. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:22 AM (#3238389)
Perfect.
   22. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:22 AM (#3238390)
You gotta feel like this just isn't the Mets season.
   23. How to lose a guy in jemile weeks Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:23 AM (#3238391)
This is brilliant.
   24. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:23 AM (#3238393)
It just never ends, does it?

That really was just a slip, I think. Poor Fernando.
   25. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:24 AM (#3238394)
I mean, really? Really??
   26. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:24 AM (#3238395)
That was some digger.
   27. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:24 AM (#3238396)
Let us not forget, also, this is two walks that shouldn't have been, as well.
   28. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:25 AM (#3238398)
Nobody forced Santana to walk the pitcher, either. He's just as culpable in this, IMO.
   29. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:25 AM (#3238399)
DAN WARTHEN! I love it!
   30. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:25 AM (#3238400)
Go Warthen!
   31. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:25 AM (#3238401)
Ryan Braun is hitting .431 against lefties.
   32. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:25 AM (#3238402)
I mean, Johann shouldn't have walked them. I am putting responsibility on Johann for those walks. Well, a walk and a half. The first one was trouble.
   33. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:26 AM (#3238403)
The Mets coach has a point. Johan is getting squeezed.
   34. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:27 AM (#3238404)
We need Johann to take care of business here, right now.
   35. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:27 AM (#3238405)
That was pretty badass, Dan.
   36. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:27 AM (#3238407)
Lassus, I'm gonna beat you if you spell Johan's name again!
   37. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:28 AM (#3238410)
This is just pathetic. Relegate this team to AA.
   38. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:28 AM (#3238411)
That was Glavinesque, Johan.
   39. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:28 AM (#3238412)
Ahhhh it's satellite season, isn't it?

Not playing any sats. I'll usually play at least 2 a night when I'm not working.
   40. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:28 AM (#3238413)
Um, that was suboptimal.
   41. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:28 AM (#3238414)
That, folks, could be the end of the 2009 season.
   42. NTNgod Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:29 AM (#3238415)
Dear God, the Mets' defense is horrible.
   43. Karl from NY Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:29 AM (#3238416)
Friggin fraggin fargle...

I can handle losing, but can we ever just lose a game without the comedy?
   44. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:29 AM (#3238417)
I don't think the third guy touched the plate, actually.

The ump was still looking at him after that was happening.
   45. How to lose a guy in jemile weeks Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:29 AM (#3238418)
I want to comment on this...but there's nothing to say.
   46. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:29 AM (#3238419)
Et tu, Johan?
   47. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:29 AM (#3238420)
No, I'm stupid, he did.
   48. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:30 AM (#3238421)
He's frustrated? Maybe Johan could stop letting the pitcher get on base every ####### game.
   49. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:30 AM (#3238422)
I wouldn't begrudge Santana if he beaned Fielder right now just out of principle.

What principle I am not rightly sure.
   50. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:31 AM (#3238423)
They have to make a trade tomorrow, right?

Right?
   51. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:31 AM (#3238424)
Sorry, Banta, I won't screw up the name again. Too much Johann Sebastian Bach, that's why.

The rest of this, well, I mean, there's just nothing to say. It is just all kinds of weirdness.
   52. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:32 AM (#3238427)
You know, I'm beginning to think that maybe they should just send Fernando down so he isn't further associated with this trainwreck of a season.
   53. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:32 AM (#3238428)
Cora nearly botched that one.
   54. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:32 AM (#3238429)
They have to make a trade tomorrow, right?
Right?

NO NO NO NO AND AGAIN, NO.

Please god, no panic trade.

That would be worse than everything else put together.
   55. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:34 AM (#3238431)
Man, who woke up the Giants? They are putting a licking on the Cardinals......
   56. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:36 AM (#3238432)
Apparently Willie was interview in between innings on the Milwaukee station and said he loves taking it to the Mets.
   57. How to lose a guy in jemile weeks Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:38 AM (#3238433)
"Mets only have three hits to this point"

Translation: "Don't forget they can't hit either"
   58. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:40 AM (#3238436)
Willie sure did have a wide grin during that interview.
   59. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:41 AM (#3238438)
Is this a joke? What a ####### hop.
   60. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:47 AM (#3238445)
Good inning there.

Haunted hotels! That much I can enjoy.
   61. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:49 AM (#3238450)
############
   62. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:49 AM (#3238451)
Still getting booed like its 1991.
   63. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:51 AM (#3238455)
Something in that bat and the way it sweeps thru the zone has me seeing Piazza when Wright is at bat.
   64. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:53 AM (#3238457)
Is Cone blaming the grass for that one?
   65. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:53 AM (#3238459)
That's a range error. He tried to make a tough play. Kind of unfair.
   66. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:54 AM (#3238462)
Remember when this team was fun to watch? Yeah, me neither.
   67. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:57 AM (#3238464)
I'm still having fun.

Mostly because we really aren't that far behind the Phillies. Also, I'm an optimist.
   68. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 01:58 AM (#3238466)
You almost gotta wonder if we bring Santana back out. Just because.

Fernando needs a HR this upcoming at-bat very very very very badly.
   69. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:00 AM (#3238472)
Nick Evans makes me happy.
   70. How to lose a guy in jemile weeks Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:03 AM (#3238475)
Fun is relative. No pressure=more fun in lack of success.
   71. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:04 AM (#3238478)
Corey Hart had a 22 game hitting streak batting leadoff. I think he likes it
   72. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:07 AM (#3238481)
This is where you PH Schneider. Manuel is such a shitty manager.
   73. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:11 AM (#3238484)
Fun is relative. No pressure=more fun in lack of success

Yeah, I'm not expecting them to win, but it'd be helpful if they didn't look so pitiful in losing.
   74. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:11 AM (#3238485)
What an epic mistake keeping Johan in.
   75. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:12 AM (#3238486)
I don't want to sound bitter, but ####### indoor fireworks? Lame.
   76. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:12 AM (#3238490)
Macha is an intriguing guy. The team lost Weeks and his semi-platoon of Casey and Craig has been great. Starters collapsed and he tries to get what he can with maybe pushing Yovani a bit much. He likes to IBB which drives me nuts. But he's ok.

Why is Johan in there burning up his arm?
   77. How to lose a guy in jemile weeks Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:19 AM (#3238498)
it'd be helpful if they didn't look so pitiful in losing.

That's part of the adventure!
   78. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:20 AM (#3238499)
They interviewed the kid who caught Prince's homer. 452'

Gee
   79. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:27 AM (#3238510)
How about another homerun, David? Just for fun.
   80. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:29 AM (#3238518)
This is the part of Macha that is inexplicable. Why the change?
   81. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:30 AM (#3238523)
All to have Counsell lead off the 8th?
   82. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:33 AM (#3238529)
Thaaaaaaaat's about right.
   83. JoeHova Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:35 AM (#3238533)
This is the part of Macha that is inexplicable. Why the change?

I was wondering the same thing. It seemed pointless.
   84. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:44 AM (#3238545)
Woohoo! Hits hits hits hits please.
   85. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:44 AM (#3238546)
There it is, rally time!
   86. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:45 AM (#3238547)
Oh Fernando.
   87. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:46 AM (#3238548)
Why do I even bother!

*smashes head against the wall*
   88. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:47 AM (#3238550)
Hey, Fernando.
   89. How to lose a guy in jemile weeks Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:47 AM (#3238551)
Congrats nando.
   90. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:47 AM (#3238552)
HOORAY!!!!!!!! THE FERNANCHISE!!!!!!!
   91. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:47 AM (#3238554)
Actually, I thought that was Fernando's DP. Heh.

Sigh.
   92. AJM Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:47 AM (#3238555)
FERNANDO!
   93. Raskolnikov Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:48 AM (#3238556)
FERNANDO! One more step.
   94. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:48 AM (#3238558)
METSSIAH!
   95. Lassus Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:49 AM (#3238562)
What an empty first HR.
   96. Banta Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:49 AM (#3238563)
Well, at least we had Fernando's homerun. That's something, right?
   97. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 01, 2009 at 02:50 AM (#3238565)
Fine scoop by Prince.

Phew. If Macha had to get Hoffman into the game again that would have been dreadful. But partially his own doing.
   98. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: July 01, 2009 at 03:59 AM (#3238752)
May you hit another 999 more dingers, Fernando.

I have not given up guys. It's just that I am a little busy right now.
