Marlon Byrd hit with a 50-game suspension. Further proof that PED's don't guarantee enhanced performance.

Manny Alexander redux. (Seriously--same two teams and everything!)

And this would seem to be the night the Cubs finally get over that elusive sub-.333 hump.

So who will be sent down tomorrow to make room for Rizzo? I am hoping they cut loose Jeff Baker.

I just came in here to note my happiness that Rizzo probably means the demise of Jeff Baker.

Hey look, offense! Wasn't sure if we'd see any of that tonight.
   7. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:02 PM (#4166226)
Great work by TWood tonight - I assume that'll be it for him since he's due up first in the seventh.
   8. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4166228)
Wow.
   9. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4166231)
Wow again. Who's ever heard of two 3-base errors in an inning?
   10. Gern Blanston Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4166232)
The hell's going on out there?
   11. Gern Blanston Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:09 PM (#4166233)
Kinda wish I'd gone to tonight's game--I don't reckon I've seen that before.
   12. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:13 PM (#4166236)
Another error. And to think, we get frustrated with the Cubs' defense.
   13. Gern Blanston Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4166237)
Radio crew thinks that last one should've been a hit.
   14. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4166238)
I don't agree. Pretty simple play. Only mitigating factor is that Castro is fast, but Cedeno was playing pretty far in so I think he still throws him out.

Mets playing down to the level of their opposition.

As I have no video, I will take your word for it. I'm looking forward to watching the mlb.com highlights of that Wright error...
   17. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4166245)
Oh yeah, that one was good. Pop up straight above home plate. Wright got there in plenty of time, but booted it, and it rolled all the way to the backstop somehow. Cardenas was running hard the whole way and was easily safe at third.

Same deal with the Duda error, although on that one Duda had to run in on a popup into no man's land, and then it went off his leg when he slid for it. I'm a little surprised they didn't give Barney a hit and then a 2-base error allowing him to get to third, just because Duda did have to run in and slide.

On the Cedeno error, he did have to backhand it, as the play was to his right. But it's silly to say that an MLB fielder doesn't routinely field that cleanly. Unless the radio crew could see on the replay that Castro would have beat it out, I don't see how it isn't an error.
   19. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4166251)
Error on Valbuena, and it should have been, but that didn't look like a very tough pick for Baker at first.
   20. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:40 PM (#4166259)
I wonder if it will really be Baker that gets cut tomorrow - I'd actually guess that Cardenas is sent back down. He's not being used, he's lefthanded, and Valbuena gives them everything he does and probably a little more.

Cubs win! Take that, sub-.333 winning percentage!
   22. SteveM. Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:49 PM (#4166262)
Travis Wood is developing nicely.
   23. Brian C Posted: June 25, 2012 at 10:54 PM (#4166263)
Yes, he looked excellent tonight.
