This next month will tell us a lot about the quality of this year's team, but I think its cool that the Mets have gotten their pyth record (42-37) almost in sync with their actual record after outperforming it massively for most of the year.

I asked this question in another thread but at what point do the Mets consider bolstering their team for a playoff run? If the Mets can get it in, they could be pretty interesting with a front three of Dickey, Santana and Niese.

I think the Mets are best off waiting three weeks to see where they are. If they're still in the Wild Card lead by then, I'd definitely look to upgrade the bullpen or maybe left field (moving Kirk back to center). Doubt that would happen as long as Bay continues to draw breath.

I might also look to upgrade at catcher. Still not sure Thole is a legit starter and I'm thinking that there has to be a better backup than Nickeas.

By the way, the Mets have been a team of streaks recently over their last 21 games.

3 Ls, 3 Ws, 3 Ls, 4 Ws, 4 Ls, 4 Ws.

Where the #### was Hairston going?

Boy, Duda really is pretty terrible out there.

I feel I've been proven right on Tejada but am a hair's-breadth away from being wrong on Thole. I absolutely am in favor of a cromulent backup/platoon thing going on at catcher as a possible playoff run upgrade.

It is really hard to watch the Sunday ESPN game after the All Star rosters are announced. Can't they talk about that between innings?

Deja Vu

I'd be in favor seeing this inning turn REAL ugly.

60 pitches for Kershaw means it was a successful inning.

I'll be honest; I'm not that familiar with what the Mets currently have down on the farm. So the question I would have is: what do the Mets have that they can deal, that would give them the upgrades they would need?

Gee seems to be having real trouble keeping the ball down.

Nice play for the force.

Buster Olney, please shut up about everything.

I do think sitting Ike just as he's heating up for some kind rote "rest" reason is kind of stupid.

Kershaw is a pretty nasty lefthander. He could put a lefty back in a funk pretty easily.

That..... is a good point, Russlan. (Ultimately I do think that a lefty has to get in there against tough lefties, but I see your point.)

I love watching Ruben Tejada's ABs.

I agree that you should keep a good lefty in the lineup but if he has to have a day off, I won't complain if it is against Kershaw.

Because of the second wildcard, a lot of teams are still in the hunt so it's hard to know what's available. A good righthanded bat that can play the outfield would be a good move for the Mets. The Mets have some pretty good prospects right now so they could probably get what's available if they are willing to pay the price.

I like Denorfia from San Diego and they should have no illusions about being buyers.

He picked a good pitch to run on (a slow breaking pitch).

Well, that's not the way I pictured this game ending.

Had to go out.

What was I saying about another catcher?

Nickeas is kind of a joke.

The not funny kind.
