1. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: July 28, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4194799)Well, I'm sure he's more likable. But he has seriously above average pop matched with seriously below-average "everything else."
If he ever develops plate discipline he could be fearsome. How is his defense?
Davis is thought to be a pretty good defensive first baseman and has the ability to draw a walk. His numbers are down this year in part because of his Valley fever and some bad luck. I don't think that's a fair characterization.
B-Ref tells me he had a pretty good season last year, albeit with severely limited playing time (152 OPS+ but only 149PA). What happened? And what is "Valley fever?"
He did draw 72 walks as a rookie and had averaged about a walk every two games prior to this year. He had the diagnosis of Valley Fever and that has played a part in his poor walk rate this year in my opinion. It'd be naive to say that is the only reason but I think he's going to have a good career.
Google it.
Ugh, a fungal respiratory infection? How unpleasant. His must've had to be a serious case in order for it to affect him that badly, however. Still, I have a particular sympathy for athletes who get felled with freakish or quasi-esoteric medical ailments (see: Rocco Baldelli, Dillon Gee).
Also, come on Mets, can you help Ike out or what?
How about that for an obscure reference?
I've been hating on the guy but he gives an honest effort. I respect that but that's not enough to keep you on a MLB roster.
I'm sure Bay will come up with a big hit.
Either there is something wrong with your sarcasm detector or there's something wrong with mine.
I'm thrilled Acosta's out of there, even if he wasn't being particularly terrible today. I can't help cringing whenever he comes into a game.
