Bard hit 2 of the first 3 batters against him tonight in AAA. Jesus ####### Christ...
   2. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:13 PM (#4152010)
I wish the Sox/Mets games would sync up so I can watch both Strasburg and Santana.
   3. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:16 PM (#4152012)
Take that, Harper! Strasburg who?
   4. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4152014)
I'm watching the Rays-Marlins and Nats-Sox games at the moment. I considered Yankees-Mets as my secondary, but for now it's the Florida series.
   5. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4152017)
Bard allowed 3 runs in a 25 pitch inning.
   6. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4152019)
This is going to be a heap of fun watching Strasburg - festival will make it tough though
   7. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4152024)
I'm always amused that Strasburg's change sits at 91.
   8. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:26 PM (#4152025)
Bard's changeup was the same velocity when he was a mid to high 90s reliever.
   9. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:26 PM (#4152026)
100 MPH from Strasburg to Pedroia for ball 3.
   10. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:26 PM (#4152028)
And 99 for strike 3.
   11. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:26 PM (#4152029)
Strasburg is so filthy. I can't remember Pedroia being that overmatched on a fastball.
   12. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:34 PM (#4152037)
That was special.
   13. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4152041)
Doubront's looking good.
   14. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:42 PM (#4152046)
Aww, I missed the Harper play.
   15. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:42 PM (#4152047)
96 MPH 2-seamer at the knees on the black.

Wow, Harper really is starting to look comfortable in CF. He was pretty bad in his first few games out there, but lately he's looked great.
   16. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:47 PM (#4152051)
Strasburg getting squeezed against Aviles.
   17. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4152052)
Yeah, a pitch that meaty going that fast is going to turn around in a hurry.
   18. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:54 PM (#4152057)
If Harper sticks in center, he's basically Griffey Jr. at the same age. That's nuts for a guy who's a no doubt HoFer.
   19. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4152058)
Harper isn't going to get fooled by the curve in this AB like he did in the first inning. His ability to make adjustments in his 2nd AB vs a pitcher is usually very good.
   20. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4152059)
Nuts to be comparable to a no doubt HoFer, rather.
   21. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4152060)
If Harper sticks in center, he's basically Griffey Jr. at the same age. That's nuts for a guy who's a no doubt HoFer.

There is 0 reason he shouldn't. He's fast, gets good jumps, and has a cannon of an arm. I didn't understand why they didn't just put him in CF from the moment they called him up.
   22. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4152063)
I can't believe this chatter isn't seeing more action. I know it's a Friday night, but Strasburg and Harper at Fenway is can't miss !
   23. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:07 PM (#4152066)
Cutter right down the ####### pipe. COme on, Felix.
   24. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:16 PM (#4152070)
Strasburg also doesn't walk 4 batters per game.
   25. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:17 PM (#4152072)
You've got to be shitting me.
   26. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:17 PM (#4152073)
Nady's making Sports Center tonight.
   27. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4152078)
This Red Sox pitching staff really isn't very good. We can definitely take this series.
   28. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4152080)
Harper gonna go deep.
   29. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4152082)

It would be a surprise if the Nats didn't with Gio facing Matsuzaka tomorrow.

28. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4152080)
Harper gonna go deep.

CALLED IT!
   31. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4152085)
That was to the center field triangle too, that's some power.
   32. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4152088)
I saw him hit one into the upper deck behind the bullpens in RF at Nationals Park the other day. Truly impressive to see that kind of power in a 19 year old.
   33. Depressoteric Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4152108)
Remember that brief period a couple of weeks ago where people were worried about whether Stephen Strasburg had either 'lost it' or was pitching hurt?

Yeah, not so much anymore.
   34. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: June 08, 2012 at 08:56 PM (#4152109)
Ten strikeouts through five innings now.
   35. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:09 PM (#4152113)
Harper is a triple from the cycle now.
   36. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:09 PM (#4152114)
Heads up play by Pedroia to take advantage of Harper's aggressive turn around first.
   37. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4152116)
I don't think bringing in lefties to face Harper is really going to accomplish very much.

Harper's OPS against righties coming into today: .809. Against lefties? How about .998!
   38. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4152118)
This is the last inning for Strasburg, right?
   39. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:14 PM (#4152119)
Almost certainly Strasburg's last inning, yeah. They're still being really careful with him.

Harper's ability against LHP is pretty ####### impressive. Not many rookie left-handed hitters are good against southpaws, nevermind guys who are 19 years old. Harper can't possibly have faced much left-handed pitching in his life at that age.
   40. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:17 PM (#4152123)
From Speier on twitter:

Strasburg's 11 Ks are most by a visiting pitcher at Fenway since Javier Vazquez had 11 on 9/5/06.
   41. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:18 PM (#4152124)
Adrian has really put good wood on the ball tonight. A robbed HR and a nice oppo double off the Monster.
   42. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4152129)
C'mon, rock me Salty-deus!
   43. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4152130)
SUrprised Stras is still in. Clearly tiring, and a good chance to turn Salty around.
   44. Depressoteric Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:28 PM (#4152131)
Well that was just about the best possible ending to the 6th inning imaginable. ADIOS, YOUK!
   45. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:28 PM (#4152132)
That's a gift K to end the inning. Was wicked low.
   46. Jay Seaver Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:28 PM (#4152133)
That may be some bull.
   47. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:28 PM (#4152134)
Hit the showers Youkilis; that was a great pitch and much too close to take.
   48. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:28 PM (#4152135)
That call seemed a bit generous.
   49. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:29 PM (#4152138)
If there's a time to get yourself tossed arguing balls and strikes, that's probably it right there. And that was quite frankly a #### call by the up.

For some reason I can't edit my posts.
   50. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4152139)
Hellickson gave up 5 hits and 7 walks in 4.1 innings, but only 1 run against the Marlins. That's pretty unique.
   51. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4152140)
Game chatter posts are not editable.
   52. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4152141)
Huh, just saw the strike zone recorder, that painted the black. Damn my lying eyes.
   53. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4152142)
Zimmerman seems to be finally getting his power stroke going.

That pitch was actually not as bad of a call as it looked live, with the replay on NESN. Flores just caught it going down and made it look lower than it was, I think.
   54. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4152143)
Nationals broadcast says Strasburg's 13 K are the most at Fenway since Mussina's near no-hitter.
   55. Depressoteric Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:33 PM (#4152144)
MLB Gameday shows Stras's last strike as well within the zone. On the edge, yes, but not even particularly marginally so. It was Flores' framing that made it look worse than it was.
   56. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4152145)
It was Flores' framing that made it look worse than it was.

Definitely.
   57. Depressoteric Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4152146)
In other equally happy news, Johan Santana and the Mets are getting absolutely raped by the Yanks, the Marlins are losing to the Rays, and the Braves are tied with the Jays.
   58. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4152148)
Yeah, it looked obviously low to me watching it in real time, but on the replay and the strike zone monitor it clearly wasn't. Wonder if Youk will watch the replay.
   59. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4152149)
Pitch to Youkilis was a strike on the Nationals k-zone thingy, too, although I'm guessing they share same feed with home team and Gameday.
   60. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4152150)
Lowrie hit his 11th home run tonight. Boy, that'd look good at SS.
   61. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4152151)
And his 12th double.
   62. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4152153)
Strasburg is youngest visiting pitcher since at least 1918 w/13+ Ks at Fenway.

   63. Jay Seaver Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4152155)
"Scott Podsednik pinch-hit for by Marlon Byrd."

Get well, everybody.
   64. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4152156)
Byrd's gotta be DFAed tomorrow for Daisuke, right?
   65. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4152157)
Nava's glad to see Strasburg out of the game.
   66. Jay Seaver Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4152158)
Can't see how it goes otherwise, as Podsednik is still playing inexplicably well.
   67. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4152159)
McDonald would seem like the other obvious choice.
   68. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4152160)
I think Podsednik is safe until one of Kalish, Crawford, or Ellsbury comes back.
   69. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:50 PM (#4152161)
Pedroia chases ball 4.
   70. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4152164)
Harper will get his shot at the cycle in the 9th inning.
   71. Jay Seaver Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4152165)
GONZO!

(He's may be back - he's looked good for the last week or so)
   72. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4152167)
Gonzalez with a towering shot on that one. Like a switch flipped and he's fixed all of a sudden. Hopefully it's the start of a trend.
   73. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4152168)
Man I hope he's back. The Red Sox need him to be awesome if they're going anywhere this year.
   74. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4152170)
No cycle, but man is Harper fast.
   75. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4152172)
I say man a lot in person too. I'm working on it.
   76. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4152174)
Harper gets out of the box quickly for a guy who swings that hard as well.
   77. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4152175)
That looked like a questionable call at first.
   78. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4152177)
That was a stupid send, even if he scored.
   79. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4152179)
That was one of those classic Fenway popup doubles right there.
   80. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4152180)
First ever win in the history of the Expos/Nationals franchise at Fenway! Those last couple of innings were a little too interesting though.
   81. Dan Posted: June 08, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4152183)
That was a very entertaining baseball game.
   82. TerpNats Posted: June 09, 2012 at 01:25 AM (#4152224)
Little-known fact: The original AL Senators clinched their first pennant at Fenway in 1924.
