Quite the wasted opportunity there. Bradley's inexplicable bunt was the key there. Kosuke and Soriano's hits could've easily dropped.

Is Soto hurt again?

Fitting that the biggest disappointment of the Cubs' season make the final out in a must-win game.

Everything that could go well has gone well for the Cubs so far today.

Except for the one thing they controlled.

Oh, and Jeff baker bunting in the 9th just continued a long line of asinine decisions by Piniella this year. Baker's one of the few guys who's been able to hit the ball lately.

I'm sure everyone's gone now, but it seems appropriate to ask on a day where the Cards lost and the Cubs blew a chance to win a winnable game--when's the last time the Cubs gained a game on the Cards in the standings? Has it happened even once since the last time the teams were tied?

Actually, it hasn't. The Cubs won on a day STL didn't play on August 3. That moved them into a tie and was the last time they gained any ground. The last time they picked up a full game was July 30, when they moved from a half-game back to a half-game ahead.

With the Royals and Mets winning today, the Cubs have the worst record in baseball since August 3.
