1. Sweatpants Posted: September 01, 2009 at 03:06 AM (#3310411)- OPS+ of 109.
- 20/23 in steals.
- 7 triples.
- A .267 batting average but a .356 OBP.
- De Nicaragua. I can now name three of these guys: Dennis Martinez, Marvin Benard, and Cabrera. Not a lousy player between them. Of course, this means that I've simply never heard of the bad Nicaraguans (or I just don't know that they hail from there).
- 22 years old, although I have no idea if there's any speculation about this.
- Already has a baseball-reference sponsor, who links to his own Facebook page.
I'm glad that I got something out of this. It's also nice to know that the Padres aren't just playing replacement-level players around poor Adrian Gonzalez. Some of these guys have futures ahead of them. I'm not watching the game, but I did see Will Venable and Kyle Blanks play, and both looked very good. Kyle Blanks is huge, and, because of this, I really want to see him stick around.
Stauffer is out after 6.2 with seven hits, a run, three walks, and five strikeouts. I think that this one is a draw.

16 of his 24 double plays occurred with Adrian Gonzalez on first.
1 of his 24 drove in a run.
Through the first two months, he had grounded into six double plays - not good, but not awful. He moved up in the batting order, though, and started racking them up. He now has 24 through five months, so he's on pace for around 30, if one can be "on pace" for a total of something as unpredictable and context-dependent as GDPs.
He hit into two on July 23rd, but the kicker was two weeks later against Atlanta, when he hit into three, all with Gonzalez on first and one out.
For all of his frustration, he still as an OPS+ of 98. Granted, that's with an OBP of .304, which is bad even by Petco Park standards, but it's not a completely dismal season.
I probably should have kept track of how many happened after a walk to Gonzalez, but I'm not going back and doing that. I don't have a play index; I went through his 2009 gamelogs.
From 2000 to 2009, Livan leads the majors with 11 complete-game losses. Playing for the Nats will do that for/to you.
