Rogers hasn't pitched in a major league game in two years, and his numbers down in Memphis don't look too good to say the least.

I like our chances of taking three out of four.

LOLOLOL

Leadoff homer to...STEVE LOMBARDOZZI?

Alright Lombo!!

Meanwhile Bryce Harper looks ice-cold...

This home plate umpire ####### sucks.

I am really ####### tired of this ridiculous ####### strike zone
   7. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 02:56 PM (#4195204)
I wonder of Harper's back is hurting him more than we know. His slump is starting to resemble Zimmerman's early in the year.
   8. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 03:02 PM (#4195209)
That is some horrendous defense right there.
   9. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 04:19 PM (#4195242)
More garbage umpiring. What the hell else is new?

Old bubble-butt not looking too good here...
   11. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 04:45 PM (#4195258)
And the Phillies suck so much now that they can't even win a game on those rare occasions that I want them to.

The Shark!!

I'm kind of starting to like this Corey Brown kid!

Yes! YES!!!

No! NO!!!
   16. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:15 PM (#4195277)
This is not the Mattheus I remember from earlier in the season.
   17. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:15 PM (#4195278)
Not exactly Mattheus' best day.
   18. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:18 PM (#4195279)
It is completely ####### unacceptable for our staff to be giving up home runs to LIGHT-HITTING LEADOFF BATTERS AND GLOVE-FIRST OUTFIELDERS, FOR ####'S SAKE.

So friggin' demoralizing.
   19. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:19 PM (#4195280)
Through 13 May, I had Mattheus having added 0.6 of a win. That was fairly good for a reliever at that stage of the season.
   20. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:20 PM (#4195281)
He was (emphasis: was?) a very good reliever up until recently. He's been giving up bombs for the last few weeks, however.
   21. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:21 PM (#4195283)
Of course here comes Stammen, who has ALSO been hit pretty hard recently. And while Rickie Weeks may be a black hole of suck playing against every other team, he's sodomized us during this series. I predict pain.
   22. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:32 PM (#4195292)
So do you think Rizzo is going to do anything with less than 24 hours to go to the deadline?
   23. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:33 PM (#4195294)
YES!! Beast Mode baby!!!
   24. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:34 PM (#4195295)
Oh my. And I have to go chop vegetables.
   25. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:34 PM (#4195296)
Um...wow. Nice timing there, Mike Morse!
   26. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:34 PM (#4195297)
It's easy to forget that we ARE facing off against John Axford. I mean...the guy's got a 5.19 ERA for a reason, after all.
   27. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:38 PM (#4195299)
Honestly, I'm kind of okay with losing this game at this point. I'm just impressed that we managed to fight back so hard. I have low expectations of beating the Brewers in an extra-inning game given how brutal their offense has been on us (and how much of a house of horrors Miller Park has been for the Nats over the last few years), I'll take this moral victory and get the hell out of town to lick our wounds on the day off.
   28. Dan Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:38 PM (#4195300)
I don't know that I've ever seen a closer blow the lead in consecutive innings before.
   29. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:40 PM (#4195301)
I don't know that I've ever seen a closer blow the lead in consecutive innings before.
That's an amazing point. Does it count as TWO blown saves?
   30. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:43 PM (#4195302)
No, it doesn't for one guy.
   31. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:44 PM (#4195303)
This next inning is basically our only chance to win, I think. I have no confidence in the ability of our team to survive another round through Aoki/Gomez/Braun/Hart/Weeks. Not normally a set of guys who should strike fear into you (w/the exception of Braun and Hart), but for the Nationals, they've all been strychnine.
   32. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:45 PM (#4195304)
...and, looking at who we have coming up (Flores, Brown, and probably a pinch-hitter) I'm not very optimistic.
   33. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:48 PM (#4195306)
Oh man, are they letting Stammen hit? This'll be rich.
   34. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:49 PM (#4195307)
Leon the only position player left.
   35. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:50 PM (#4195308)
Leon the only position player left.
And I'm pretty damn tired of seeing him in games at this point.
   36. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:54 PM (#4195312)
I made a mistake before, there's still about 48 hours to the deadline, not 24. We need that backup catcher Rizzo!
   37. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:55 PM (#4195314)
I made a mistake before, there's still about 48 hours to the deadline, not 24. We need that backup catcher Rizzo!
We actually should've made a play for George Kottaras, who was just cut by the Brewers. Would've made a serviceable backup catcher.
   38. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:55 PM (#4195316)
I have a sinking feeling about this AB to Ryan Braun. Please let me be wrong.
   39. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:56 PM (#4195319)
Absolutely, I was bummed about that too.
   40. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:57 PM (#4195320)
Well done, Stammen! Very impressive job.
   41. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 05:58 PM (#4195322)
Please let me be wrong.

You haven't quite got the Larry Mahnken style down pat, here.
   42. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:05 PM (#4195332)
What a horseshit call. You're horrible, Esterbrook.
   43. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:07 PM (#4195336)
Morse comes through again!
   44. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:07 PM (#4195337)
The Beast comes through again!!
   45. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:10 PM (#4195340)
Michael Morse had been hitting for average, but with a curious lack of power. Good to see the power stroke returning at EXACTLY the right time.
   46. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:11 PM (#4195341)
I'm not watching the game, only listening...should Bo Porter have held up Morse there? I remember him sending Morse to his death yesterday, so I'm going to assume it was the right move.
   47. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4195342)
The would never be expecting a squeeze play right here ...
   48. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:13 PM (#4195343)
Yeah, holding him up was the right move.
   49. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:14 PM (#4195344)
I actually don't want Bernadina to walk here...Flores is a perfect candidate for a GIDP.
   50. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4195346)
Let's rip their heart out right here Jesus.
   51. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:18 PM (#4195347)
Let's rip their heart out right here Jesus.
Because that's exactly what Jesus would do, amirite? Kind of like Mola Ram.
   52. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:21 PM (#4195352)
Every one of the home plate umpires for this series deserves to be relegated to the minor leagues. EVERY. LAST. FRIGGIN'. ONE.
   53. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4195353)
Okay, is there a chance -- A CHANCE, I'M BEGGING YOU -- that Clip can just get us through a drama-free inning?
   54. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:26 PM (#4195355)
Corey Hart bunt attempt? We're definitely through the looking glass at this point.
   55. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:26 PM (#4195357)
No, no chance.
   56. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:26 PM (#4195358)
JESUS CHRIST THIS GAME. WE ARE NOT GOING TO WIN THIS GAME.
   57. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:26 PM (#4195359)
Crap.
   58. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:27 PM (#4195360)
I swear to god Corey Hart has hit something like five home runs off of us during this series.
   59. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:28 PM (#4195362)
Thankfully, mrs fra paolo has decided to telephone a friend back in England, so I don't actually have to cook those vegetables yet.
   60. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:29 PM (#4195363)
WE ARE NOT GOING TO WIN THIS GAME.

Yes — that's much more how Mahnken does it.
   61. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:30 PM (#4195364)
Okay, if Tyler Clippard can't get Nyjer Morgan and Cody Ransom to make outs, I quit. I'm gonna become a Mets fan, I dunno.
   62. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:30 PM (#4195366)
WE ARE NOT GOING TO WIN THIS GAME.

Yes — that's much more how Mahnken does it.
What can I say, I'm trying to adjust and learn.
   63. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:31 PM (#4195367)
INCREDIBLE DEFENSIVE PLAY FROM ESPINOSA *AND* MORSE.
   64. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:31 PM (#4195368)
JUST ONE MORE OUT, PLEASE, PLEASE GOD PLEASE.
   65. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:31 PM (#4195369)
Two down...
   66. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:32 PM (#4195372)
'Cesar Izturis is on deck.'

Words I don't mind hearing dept.
   67. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:34 PM (#4195373)
Still two down...
   68. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:34 PM (#4195375)
*sigh*

Okay, the next batter is CESAR F**KIN' IZTURIS. A man with a .512 OPS on the season, batting .214. MAKE HIM HIT THE DAMN BALL ON THE GROUND.
   69. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:35 PM (#4195376)
Nats win!
   70. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:35 PM (#4195377)
Everybody exhale! We won one of the great games of the season!
   71. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:35 PM (#4195378)
Bang, zoom, it's a 21 games over .500, six out seven road trip Curly W in the books!!!
   72. TerpNats Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:36 PM (#4195380)
Wow.
   73. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:37 PM (#4195381)
I know what I said about moral victories earlier, but that was before we went up by two in extra innings. If we'd lost this game I would've felt absolutely gutted. Now I feel like Winston Churchill, who said that there is nothing quite so exhilarating as to be shot at -- and missed.
   74. fra paolo Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:37 PM (#4195382)
I wonder how Harvey's is feeling right now...
   75. Depressoteric Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:40 PM (#4195384)
I wonder how Harvey's is feeling right now...
Harveys has been around long enough to deal with disappointment and heartbreak, I'm thinking.

Either that or he's cursing out John Axford in a blue streak. I dunno, could go either way.
   76. TerpNats Posted: July 29, 2012 at 06:47 PM (#4195391)
Hope the TBS people enjoyed that game. Too bad so many of the Nats' upcoming Saturday games are either slated for night or against lackluster opponents, because this is a team Fox needs to publicize (it has the NLCS this year).
   77. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: July 29, 2012 at 07:00 PM (#4195398)
Forget about Fox, I wish the freaking media jerks here in D.C. would talk about the Nats a little more instead of how the Redskins fourth string tight in is looking in training camp.
   78. TerpNats Posted: July 29, 2012 at 07:07 PM (#4195401)
For some fools in the D.C. sports media, a winning Washington baseball team simply does not compute within their pea brains. They'll come around, whether they like it or not.
