The last time we faced Wainwright we pounded the snot out of him. Can we do it again? St. Louis has a lot riding on these games as well, so I suspect it won't be easy. We'll find out shortly!

Well, this is a fine how-d'ye-do for EJax.
   4. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 08:46 PM (#4248541)
That sucked, but we're going to come back in this game.
   5. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4248542)
Oh dear, what an ugly inning.
   6. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4248556)
Atrocious pitching and atrocious defense tonight. We need either a ton of offense, or a miracle from the Mets that we probably aren't going to get.
   7. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4248558)
Well, at least Brock Hanke will be happy.
   8. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 09:18 PM (#4248563)
Better to have that kind of start now than in the playoffs.

Come on you stupid Mets, try being good for something.

By the way, the Reds Homer Bailey is three outs away from no-hitting the Pirates.
   10. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4248578)
Bailey gets the no-no, and the Mets take the lead 3-1!! Wild night already.

Atlanta done in the 7th. Now we need to depend on that crappy Mets bullpen for two innings, oh boy.

LET'S GO METS.

It's turned into a spring training game, as far as roster moves go.
   14. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4248611)
That's three big outs for the Mets against the heart of the Braves order. Hold one one more damn inning Mets!
   15. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4248616)
Another small bright spot while we get our butts kicked: the Philthies have just been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Suck it, Philly!
   16. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4248621)
Mets win.
   17. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:19 PM (#4248623)
I was starting to think the Braves weren't going to lose another game! And then, it was 2.
   18. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:20 PM (#4248625)
Here's a good trivia question: Bob Watson turned the GM job down in 04, and Bowden accepted it, but name two others who were rumoured for the GM job in autumn 04?
   19. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4248631)
Bernadina!
   20. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4248635)
That's 10 substitutes (including pitchers) used by Johnson in this game.
   21. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:39 PM (#4248638)
Camptown Races? Sounds like the 2nd South Carolina String Band doing it.

   24. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:48 PM (#4248650)
Both of these chaps had been GMs before.
   25. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:50 PM (#4248651)
We're up to one dozen Nationals' substitutes, including pitchers.
   26. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:53 PM (#4248654)
One Cardinal run per Nationals' substitute!
   27. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:56 PM (#4248656)
Not Bob Short I hope!
   28. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:58 PM (#4248659)
Just kidding, he was dead for many years. I give up?
   29. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 10:58 PM (#4248660)
I'll post the answer at the end of the game.
   30. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 11:05 PM (#4248668)
A walk! Get the rally caps out, fellows!
   31. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 11:06 PM (#4248670)
I'll tell you this, I want the Cardinals to beat Medlen and the Braves in the wild card game SO damn badly.
   32. fra paolo Posted: September 28, 2012 at 11:09 PM (#4248672)
OK, trivia answers:

Pat Gillick suggested himself for the job, as reported in an article about Tony Tavares opening the team's office in Washington by Dave Sheinin, 14 Oct 2004

Also, Dan Duquette had a meeting with 'officials' according to a Barry Svrluga article in the Post on 2 Nov 2004.
   33. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: September 28, 2012 at 11:11 PM (#4248673)
Nice. I should have remembered Duquette, but I never would have remembered Gillick.
