Ugh. From metsblog.com:

though the team has yet to make an official announcement, it appears that Brian Bannister will be unable to return to action without at least testing his hamstring in a rehab start, thus the the buzz from shea is that Jose Lima will start on thursday against the cardinals in st. louis, while Jeremi Gonzalez will start on friday against the yankees at shea stadium

Facing Randy Johnson! That'll be a first-team-to-ten kind of game
   3. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 16, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2022434)
At least Gonzalez won't have to face Sheffield, Matsui, or a DH. Mets caught a break in that regard.

FWIW, Anderson Hernandez is hitting .400/.455/.500 in AAA, and Heath Bell struck out the 4 hitters he faced yesterday. I still think Heath Bell is 4A and I don't understand how Hernandez gets hits anywhere. Obviously, 20 ABs is 20 ABs.

Wait a second...why not use yesterday's off day? Pitch Gonzalez Thursday and Pedro Friday?

This is ####### ####### retarded. The Mets will lose the next four.

Wait a second...why not use yesterday's off day? Pitch Gonzalez Thursday and Pedro Friday?

And skip Lima time? Omar & Willie shudder at that thought.
   6. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 16, 2006 at 09:34 PM (#2022707)
I can't fault the Mets for giving Pedro an extra day whenever possible.
   7. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 16, 2006 at 09:47 PM (#2022726)
If the season ended today, wold Glavine be the NL Cy Young?
   8. AJM Posted: May 16, 2006 at 11:41 PM (#2022937)
Pitch Gonzalez Thursday and Pedro Friday?

Lima would then have to pitch Saturday. This way Lima doesn't face the Yanks and Pedro gets an extra day.
   9. AJM Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:12 AM (#2023066)
Crap, the game isn't on EI.

And the radio has a stupid hiss, apparently I can only get a clear signal if the radio hovers three feet off the ground in the middle of the room.

A successful pickoff? Against Reyes, no less? Damn.

God, Reyes!

This game is off to an annoying start.

I'm getting it on EI.

Exactly the start we didn't need. Jose is really pissing me off right now.

Was Reyes out? He didn't look out to me but MLB.TV didn't really give a good angle.

Suppan lulled him to sleep.

I'm happy to see Suppan isn't up against Trachsel.

Am I the only one getting the FSN video feed with the Cardinals' radio audio?
   19. Bob Koo Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#2023112)
Didn't Eckstein pull this nonsense against the Mets last year also? Or am I thinking of someone else?
   20. If you have a bad sandwich, it's Tim Hamulack Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#2023113)
I hate David Eckstein.
   21. Alex meets the threshold for granular review Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:22 AM (#2023117)
Oh man...I would've foregone that matchup.

Love what Supp does as a #5, but the guy is booooooooooriiiiiiiiing. Even watching Marquis blow up has a certain sadistic charm, and at least he has semi-decent odds to throw a gem.
   22. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:22 AM (#2023118)

Uh, did you see the replay? He didn't move out of the way, but he sure as heck didn't lean into it. He twisted to his right and it hit him on the thigh.
   24. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:24 AM (#2023126)
As a heads-up: The Friday night game against the Yankees definitely will not be on EI. PIX is carrying it on the Mets side and YES is not picking it up for the Yanks. Instead, local Channel 9 is covering it.
   25. AJM Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:25 AM (#2023131)
I'm getting it on EI.

Now I see it on the schedule, but I don't get that channel. I'm guessing it's a direct tv station, is that what you have?
   26. greenback Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:25 AM (#2023132)
I'm also getting the FSN video with radio audio.

Thanks. I didn't know if MLB.tv has decided to experiment with our respective fandoms. Be thankful that you don't have to listen to Al Hrabosky.

I saw the replay and I still disagree. The twist seemed to put him in better position to be hit.

I have Comcast Digital Cable and it is on their recently-added overflow channels. I now get 14 EI channels instead of 10.

Ugh. It seems like I never get to watch the Mets/Yankees games.

The Sat. game is on FOX and Sunday is ESPN.

Joe just said "Nady's season high in HRs was 26 in A ball", hinting that since he has 8 already, he'll hit a bunch.

He won't hit 26 this season.

Jose Lima: -131 RSAA
Albert Pujols: 354 BRAA

Lima is the second-worst pitcher all-time by RSAA, so it is quite possible that when Lima faces Pujols, it will indeed be, statistically, the greatest mismatch ever.

Did Buck just question Glavine's candidacy for the HOF?

REYES!

Now he'll flyout every at-bat for the next two weeks.

Hanging curveball. Nice job, Jose!

He said "Edmonds going back. *He'll get there*" as the ball left the yard.

Good guess, Joe.

Yeah, cranking a hanging curve into the bleachers is awful.

Jose's homers always look like popups to the second baseman off the bat.
   75. Bob Koo Posted: May 17, 2006 at 12:56 AM (#2023264)
It didn't hang as much as I thought. Impressive piece of hitting.

AP: Lima fills rotation void while Bannister gets rehab start

Randolph said it would be a sign of "panic" to use Bannister on Thursday.

"I don't think it's fair to rush him into a situation where you can just be cautious and take your time and do what's right," Randolph said. "You can throw on the side all you want, but when you get into heated situations with the adrenaline flowing and you've got a hamstring pull, you're going to try to do more than you can maybe and run the risk of setting yourself back."

Lima is 0-2 with a 9.31 ERA, allowing 10 runs in 9 2-3 innings over two starts while filling Bannister's spot. Jeremi Gonzalez will pitch on Friday against the Yankees at Shea Stadium, followed by Pedro Martinez on Saturday and Tom Glavine on Sunday.

Martinez will be working on five days' rest.

I endorse signs of panic.

Yeah, cranking a hanging curve into the bleachers is awful.

It's not that pitch in particular, it's what he's been doing for the last two weeks. Swinging at everything and trying to elevate pitches. Yeah, it works sometimes, but I worry for his longterm progress.

Milledge LF
Hernandez SS
Diaz RF
Tucker CF
Offerman 1B
Tagg Bozied DH
Keppinger 2B
Sandy Martinez C
Lambin 3B

Since when did the Mets get Tagg?
   86. Chris Dial Posted: May 17, 2006 at 01:05 AM (#2023304)
I'd get So out and have Pujols leadoff.

That's my strategy.

   90. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 17, 2006 at 01:09 AM (#2023315)
Apparently they just acquired Tagg, the Virginian Pilot ran an article with a brief today:

Bozied, who was a third-round pick of the San Diego Padres in 2002, delivered a sharp run-scoring single in fourth and doubled in the seventh.

Bozied’s career was sidetracked in 2004 when, while celebrating a walk-off grand slam for Triple-A Portland with teammates, he sustained a season-ending knee injury . He had 99 at-bats last year while coming back from the knee injury. He was used as a designated hitter Monday.

I remember I had a rookie card with Tagg and Nady on it.
