All of this is just setting up Cliff Floyd's dramatic game-winning pinch-hit homerun.
   302. Rob Base Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:00 AM (#2210904)
we're not winning this game.
   303. greenback calls it soccer Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:01 AM (#2210906)
C'mon, McCarver. Say LoDuca isn't a leader.
   304. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:02 AM (#2210907)
Valentin got a hit!
   305. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:02 AM (#2210908)
Finally, Stache gets off the schnide.
   306. good_ol_gil Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:02 AM (#2210909)
Coulda used that first last AB, Valentin.
   307. Urban Faber Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:02 AM (#2210910)
Jose's first hit of the 2006 postseason?
   308. The Ghost is getting a Woody Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:03 AM (#2210911)
Yes, it irritates me to no end (and my wife as well) that Spiezio is getting paid by the Mariners to play for the Cardinals.

I believe thaat his marriage dissolved when he was in Seattle. In any case, he ended up with some wild chick, got her name tatooed on, and all the while could not hit squat for a season and a half.

I thought this was his last Mariner contract year, but now I see that there's a $3.25 million option with a 250K buyout. I hope that they'll pick that up, and save the Mariners the quarter mil.
   309. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:03 AM (#2210914)
I don't think Endy has taken a pitch this game.
   310. greenback calls it soccer Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:05 AM (#2210917)
In any case, he ended up with some wild chick, got her name tatooed on

He got more than her name tattooed on.
   311. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:06 AM (#2210920)
Assuming Heilman gets out of this inning without a run being scored, do you let him hit?
   312. Rob Base Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:08 AM (#2210921)
If Randolph thinks mota's changeup is better than heilman's, he deserves to be managing the reds.
   313. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:08 AM (#2210922)
Oh good, I see a righty in the Cards bullpen. Yum.
   314. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:09 AM (#2210923)
I'm surprised Spiezio's "wild chick" doesn't wear sexier underpants.
   315. Rob Base Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:10 AM (#2210924)
big jugs
   316. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:10 AM (#2210925)
What is up with Molina? And there is Wright too far off the line.
   317. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:10 AM (#2210926)
Molina, seriously. We get the point.

Once again, Wright isn't close enough to the line.
   318. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:10 AM (#2210927)
David Wright doesn't cover his right very well.
   319. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:10 AM (#2210928)
Hey, another ball by David's rightside!
   320. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:11 AM (#2210929)
Wouldn't you pinch-run for Molina? As a Molina, he is historically slow.
   321. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:12 AM (#2210931)
Give Wilson a change out of the strike zone, and Wilson will fish.
   322. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:12 AM (#2210932)
Nah, you have to prevent Reyes from running.
   323. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:12 AM (#2210933)
I suppose Rolen is really unavailable if Wilson is the bat off the bench.
   324. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:13 AM (#2210935)
Nicely done.
   325. greenback calls it soccer Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:14 AM (#2210936)
I suppose Rolen is really unavailable if Wilson is the bat off the bench.

Rolen can't catch up to Tom Glavine's fastball.
   326. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:15 AM (#2210937)
Heilman gets them here - we score a couple in the bottom half, and Wags shuts the door. How does that sound?
   327. Rob Base Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:15 AM (#2210939)
dig it
   328. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:15 AM (#2210940)
What would it take for Molina to score on a double? At least one sniper shot, I would think.

I think I would take my chances that my pitcher could get Reyes out.
   329. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:16 AM (#2210941)
That was way too close.
   330. good_ol_gil Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:17 AM (#2210943)
These ####### Cardinal hitters are being pesky as hell.
   331. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:18 AM (#2210944)
I had flashes of the Scioscia HR with that Eck foul. Just came out of nowhere and maximum devastation potential.
   332. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:19 AM (#2210946)
Come on, Aaron!
   333. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:19 AM (#2210947)
That is ####### unbelievable
   334. rLr Is King Of The Romans And Above Grammar Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:19 AM (#2210948)
David Eckstein is one dorky looking little fella. He's like the lost Hansen boy.
   335. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:19 AM (#2210949)
Move your ####### body when the ball is in the dirt LoDuca!!!
   336. good_ol_gil Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:19 AM (#2210950)
I know this is going to end badly...
   337. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:21 AM (#2210951)
Nicely done, Aaron.
   338. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:21 AM (#2210952)
Good job Aaron.

Let's get some runs in the 8th boys!
   339. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:21 AM (#2210953)
Holy crap, that almost killed me.

RUNS PLEASE!
   340. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:21 AM (#2210954)
Whew.....
   341. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:22 AM (#2210956)
Very good battle from Heilman.
   342. good_ol_gil Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:23 AM (#2210958)
Damn, we sure could use a rainout tomorrow. Heilman and Mota are both gonna be very iffy for tomorrow.
   343. Rob Base Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:23 AM (#2210959)
how many was that?
   344. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:23 AM (#2210960)
Hope it's righty Kinney.
   345. Srul Itza Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:24 AM (#2210961)
Duncan isn't that good of a hitter BTW.

I forgot to respond to this:

He may not be a good hitter, but this season, with an OPS of .952 [in limited playing time], he is doing a more than fair impression of one.
   346. Srul Itza Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:25 AM (#2210962)
Is Willie ever going to realize the Julio if finally fried?
   347. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:26 AM (#2210964)
Kinney is worse than Trax in pace.
   348. Srul Itza Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:27 AM (#2210965)
Toguchi in place of Duncan, and leading off next inning. I can live with that.
   349. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:28 AM (#2210967)
Franco blows.
   350. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:29 AM (#2210968)
Reyes! Time for a Reyes run.
   351. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:29 AM (#2210969)
That's what we need, Jose!
   352. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:29 AM (#2210970)
Jose starting it up!
   353. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:31 AM (#2210971)
the problem appears to have been me wearing my David Wright jersey T.

I've stripped that off just before the Reyes AB.
   354. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:31 AM (#2210972)
Please, Loduca, draw a BB. ignore your hitting nature.
   355. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:31 AM (#2210973)
Jose is going to score here. I'm calling it.
   356. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:32 AM (#2210974)
Alrighty! Let's go Beltran!
   357. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:32 AM (#2210975)
Yes! This could be something special.
   358. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:32 AM (#2210976)
Great PA LoDuca.

Let's go Carlos #1!
   359. greenback calls it soccer Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:32 AM (#2210977)
He may not be a good hitter, but this season, with an OPS of .952 [in limited playing time], he is doing a more than fair impression of one.

Yeah, I know what Duncan did this season at the majors. I also know what he did in the minors in 2006 and before that. The Ryan Howard comparison is ridiculous.
   360. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:33 AM (#2210978)
How much of that walk to Lo Duca was because of Reyes?
   361. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:33 AM (#2210979)
McCarver is nuts if LaRussa is worried about Reyes. The man at the plate is the one everyone should be focused on.
   362. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:34 AM (#2210980)
A balk there would have been awesome.
   363. greenback calls it soccer Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:35 AM (#2210981)
OMG, Kinney killed a rally!
   364. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:35 AM (#2210982)
Sigh.
   365. Karl from NY Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:35 AM (#2210983)
UGH. That pitch was at shoulder height.
   366. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:35 AM (#2210984)
That DP was the last thing we wanted.
   367. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:35 AM (#2210985)
Well, that ####### sucked.
   368. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:38 AM (#2210986)
Here's hoping Wagner brings the good stuff. He hasn't been bad in the postseason so far, but he hasn't exactly been dominate yet either.
   369. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:40 AM (#2210987)
dominent! Come on, Wags.
   370. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:40 AM (#2210988)
We have thrown a million balls tonight.
   371. strong silence Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:41 AM (#2210990)
Great game. The few that are left are getting a great show. A few points:

1. I thought this thread would be over 600 posts by now. Where is fanboy and the other Cards fans?

2. Wagner will lose a matchup with Pujols. An IBB is mandatory.

3. Mets fans - you realize how good the Cards are NOW, right?
   372. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:41 AM (#2210991)
Knew that was coming.
   373. greenback calls it soccer Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:41 AM (#2210992)
Taguchi?
   374. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:41 AM (#2210993)
Unbelievable.
   375. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:41 AM (#2210994)
...dominant.

Game over. Season over.
   376. The Ghost is getting a Woody Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:41 AM (#2210995)
Larussa is a genius
   377. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:41 AM (#2210996)
You have to be absolutely ####### kidding me!

So ####### Taguchi? ####### ####.
   378. Srul Itza Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:42 AM (#2210997)
I DO NOT FRICKING BELIEVE THIS -- Losing the game on a home run by SO TOGUCHI? Shades of Al Weis.
   379. Repoz Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:42 AM (#2210998)
Wagner is the rot.
   380. CraigK Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:42 AM (#2210999)
Dude.

So Taguchi.

He ######' SUCKS.
   381. Karl from NY Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:43 AM (#2211000)
Repoz lurks in Game Chatters?
   382. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:43 AM (#2211001)
This is disgraceful.
   383. 44magnum Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:44 AM (#2211002)
I thought Taguchi only did that against my Reds....
   384. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:44 AM (#2211003)
More ugh.
   385. strong silence Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:44 AM (#2211004)
I wrote that post, 371, before the taguchi home run?

Why no IBB on Pujols? Where is Randolph? WTF is going on? 1986 oh no oh no oh no oh no 1986 oh no oh no oh no oh no1986 oh no oh no oh no oh no1986 oh no oh no oh no oh no1986 oh no oh no oh no oh no
   386. Chris Dial Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:44 AM (#2211005)
If we lose, this is Willie's.

He didn't stop the first pitch swinging, and he went to get Mota against Spiezio, and got talked into leaving him in.
   387. CraigK Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:44 AM (#2211007)
When that picture comes out on the news, I am so making that an OWNED pic.
   388. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:45 AM (#2211008)
Seriously, we needed this game. Our bullpen is shot now. The Cardinals have a great chance of winning this series now.
   389. Urban Faber Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:45 AM (#2211009)
Taguchi homered in the loss to the Padres, I think.
   390. good_ol_gil Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:46 AM (#2211010)
If Wagner can get out of this with only one run allowed, the game is far from over, but damn, it sure feels like it is.
   391. Raskolnikov Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:46 AM (#2211012)
Come Billy, get the K. Let's limit the damage.
   392. strong silence Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:46 AM (#2211013)
Beltran - we all agreed that he was the one we wanted at bat with the winning run on base. We were wrong.
   393. CraigK Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:46 AM (#2211014)
Pujowned!
   394. greenback calls it soccer Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:46 AM (#2211015)
Double clutch!
   395. 44magnum Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:47 AM (#2211017)
F him & his "red thingy"
   396. Banta Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:47 AM (#2211018)
Wagner sucks. He's garbage.
   397. good_ol_gil Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:47 AM (#2211019)
game over
   398. Joshemy Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:47 AM (#2211020)
Billy Wagner, I ####### hate you.
   399. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:47 AM (#2211021)
This game is so taguchi over.
   400. The Ghost is getting a Woody Posted: October 14, 2006 at 03:48 AM (#2211022)
Spiezio -- I just don't know what to say.

Thanks for the link to the tatoo, by the way.
