We suck.
   2. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 04:46 PM (#1595286)
Well, it's over, I guess. Our offense stinks and to makes matters worse, in the next five days the Mets are facing Beckett, Burnett, Smoltz and Hudson. If there's a silver lining to all of this is the fact that Omar will have to work hard to improve the offense this offseason. We need hitters, and we need them bad.
   3. villainx Posted: September 03, 2005 at 04:58 PM (#1595297)
I don't know, a victory today may be the start of something.
   4. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 05:18 PM (#1595314)
Still only 3.5 out. All they gotta do is play 2/3 baseball.
   5. Honkie Kong Posted: September 03, 2005 at 06:47 PM (#1595427)
Hey, I bet you guys declared the season over tons fo times. This wasn't supposed to be your year anyway, the Mets are atleast a year ahead of their "plan".

Oh wait, didn't you trade away a prospect for a pitcher to help you win now?!
   6. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 07:00 PM (#1595436)
Screw you.
   7. Rob Base Posted: September 03, 2005 at 08:25 PM (#1595525)
Screw you.

this is the credited response

I haven't been in a Chatter in a while. I forgot how negative it is in here.
   9. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:31 PM (#1595796)
Hey, I'm trying to keep the faith here.

My dad tells me Mientkiewicz pinch hit last night and swung at the first pitch he saw for the last month. It was also the first pitch Jones threw.

Brillant!
   10. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:32 PM (#1595803)
I know that Cairo is going to bat second everyday, yet it still upsets me when the lineup comes on the screen and shows Cairo there.
   11. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:34 PM (#1595805)
Words fail me.
   12. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:34 PM (#1595807)
My dad tells me Mientkiewicz pinch hit last night and swung at the first pitch he saw for the last month. It was also the first pitch Jones threw.

Yup. I have no idea why he was even hitting in that situation when Anderson and Jacobs were on the bench.
   13. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:35 PM (#1595809)
Beckett has no hit stuff tonight. And the Mets have a no-hit lineup out there.
   14. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:35 PM (#1595813)
Mets look hitterish tonight!
   15. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:37 PM (#1595815)
This is going well so far...
   16. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:38 PM (#1595817)
Are the Marlins' announcers the worst in baseball? I can't think of a broadcast tandem I hate worse.
   17. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:41 PM (#1595825)
The Marlins announcers just said that Benson was "Da Bomb" in Pittsburgh. That's hilarious.
   18. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:43 PM (#1595828)
An easy first inning for Krissy. Nice job.
   19. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:45 PM (#1595834)
The Marlins announcers just said that Benson was “Da Bomb” in Pittsburgh.

The Marlins' announcers remind me of those dads that think they are still cool even though they are clearly the opposite. I think that's another reason why I hate them. And you know, as if their announcers weren't bad enough, the Marlins have got to be the cheapest team ever. I mean, what other team sells their LP announcements to tacky lawyers?
   20. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:45 PM (#1595835)
Damn Floyd is a bad slump.
   21. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:46 PM (#1595836)
Just wait until you get to the Maroone Call to the Bullpen!
   22. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:46 PM (#1595837)
####. Twice in this series Floyd's hit a bomb to right, and it hasn't gone out.
   23. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:47 PM (#1595841)
When Doug Mientkiewicz is the best protection the Mets can offer to David Wright, you know they're in trouble.
   24. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:48 PM (#1595842)
"When you need a car, truck, or van. Who you gonna call? Maroone!"
   25. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:48 PM (#1595843)
Wright's been really off recently, hasn't he?
   26. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:51 PM (#1595844)
Wright’s been really off recently, hasn’t he?

Not really, he's hitting .286/.375/.429 the last 7 days and he won player of the week last week.
   27. Old Matt Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:56 PM (#1595850)
Oh, well my bad.

Go Krissy!
   28. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 10:56 PM (#1595851)
6 up, 6 down.

Seo vs. Burnett tomorrow. If I wasn't broke I'd go.
   29. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:00 PM (#1595857)
A hit!
   30. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:00 PM (#1595858)
Well, at least we won't be no hit.

Now I see what Randolph's plan is...
   31. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:04 PM (#1595865)
A walk!
   32. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:05 PM (#1595866)
Benson's OBP is higher than Cairo's.
   33. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:08 PM (#1595872)
Benson’s OBP is higher than Cairo’s.

Reyes' too.
   34. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:08 PM (#1595873)
Good thing Cairo is in this situation. One out pop out. I'm calling it.
   35. villainx Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:09 PM (#1595875)
.172 avg risp cairo.
   36. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:11 PM (#1595879)
Randolph is a genius.
   37. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:20 PM (#1595901)
Thank god that didn't happen with two runners in scoring position.
   38. Шĥy Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:20 PM (#1595902)
Willie's explanation for starting Minky:

"It can't hurt," Randolph said.
   39. AJM Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:21 PM (#1595905)
Cliff!
   40. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: September 03, 2005 at 11:22 PM (#1595908)
FLOYD!!!!!
   41. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:00 AM (#1595962)
Wait, we are winning. Wow.
   42. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:12 AM (#1595981)
Nicely done Krissy.
   43. Rob Base Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:15 AM (#1595989)
Not sad to see beckett go.
   44. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:17 AM (#1595998)
That throw was a beauty.
   45. Rob Base Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:20 AM (#1596009)
Wright is really not a fast runner
   46. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:20 AM (#1596011)
Three runs! Are pigs flying?
   47. Rob Base Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:21 AM (#1596016)
The big inning against Benson is almost certainly looming.
   48. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:24 AM (#1596022)
Benson sure is giving up a lot of homers on the road. 17 homers in only 61.2 IP.
   49. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:24 AM (#1596023)
Big insurance.
   50. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:25 AM (#1596025)
Victor Diaz is rapidly becoming my favorite player. His main competition of late is Ramon Castro.
   51. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:26 AM (#1596034)
They'll still blow it.

Hmm, that negativity just sorta flew out...
   52. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:29 AM (#1596041)
Hey, don't look now but Phillies and Astros are both losing.

Jeremy, how was the game today?
   53. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:31 AM (#1596046)
Man do I wish Delgado signed with the Mets.
   54. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:31 AM (#1596047)
Scott Strickland just threw a 14-pitch perfect sixth for the Astros.

Good for him.
   55. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:37 AM (#1596059)
Jeremy, how was the game today?

Awesome. They won 23-13.

The atmosphere at the games is amazing, even if the later 2nd half dragged (The score was 17-7 at the half. You can imagine what the 2nd half was like. A lot of short possessions for USF and a lot of stupid #### done by our offense) and Robinson can't throw a ball more than 7 yards with any accuracy.

Basically, I love it.
   56. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:50 AM (#1596092)
Come on badass Padilla.
   57. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:53 AM (#1596100)
Why isn't Kool-Aid coming in?
   58. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:53 AM (#1596103)
Because Padilla is badass.
   59. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:56 AM (#1596117)
Well, this the season coming up.

And here comes Shingomania.
   60. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:56 AM (#1596118)
Glad to see we're easing Shingo into things.
   61. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:56 AM (#1596120)
How do you walk Castillo on 4 pitches to load the bases for Miguel Cabrera? This is so bad.
   62. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:57 AM (#1596121)
Let's go Proven Closer!
   63. Bob Koo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:57 AM (#1596124)
Regardless of how this turns out, Willie is an idiot. "Hey, shiny new pitchers! Let's use one against one of the best hitters in the National League!"
   64. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 12:58 AM (#1596128)
Padilla's been good. I like him. He just can't throw strikes sometimes.

So Shingo Takatsu will pitch in the biggest at-bat of the season -- and maybe five years for the Mets.

Who'da thunk it?
   65. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:00 AM (#1596140)
That was pathetic.
   66. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:00 AM (#1596141)
Where was that 1-1 pitch!
   67. The Wilpons Must Go (Tom D) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:00 AM (#1596142)
####
   68. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:00 AM (#1596144)
Well, that worked out great.
   69. Bob Koo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:01 AM (#1596145)
How could you use Takatsu instead of Padila or Hernandez in this spot? I'm just stunned. For all the stupid moves Willie's made all year, this is the worst.
   70. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:01 AM (#1596146)
Great. A 2-1 fastball right down the middle to Miggy.

I don't care if the way Floyd played it turned it into 3 runs instead of 2, because...

Takatsu... you suck.
   71. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:01 AM (#1596148)
I really think Randolph should be fired after the season.
   72. Lance Broadway Howie Rose (Gian-Angelo Gallace) Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:02 AM (#1596153)
i think shingo's going to go down in mets history with the julio valera start.
   73. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:03 AM (#1596156)
ONE BATTER TOO LATE!
   74. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:05 AM (#1596163)
I bet you the Mets win this game.
   75. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:05 AM (#1596164)
I'm not even going to blame Takatsu. That's a tough situation and he got squeezed on the 1-1 call. But you have to bring in Hernandez in that situation.
   76. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:06 AM (#1596166)
I blame a lot of that on Floyd. He's got to make a better play on that ball to at least hold the Marlins to two runs on that play. He played the ball so poorly.
   77. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:07 AM (#1596170)
Hey...they double switched out Delgado.
   78. Benji Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:07 AM (#1596171)
Please! No more Japanese players!
   79. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:08 AM (#1596177)
Willie can't deviate from the Torreplan.

Hernandez for the eighth and Looper for the ninth in every single ####### game.
   80. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:10 AM (#1596184)
Does Castro have any more heroics left in his big head?
   81. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:12 AM (#1596190)
THAT IS AN ABSOLUTE HORSESHIT CALL!
   82. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:13 AM (#1596191)
Get thrown out Willie!
   83. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:13 AM (#1596192)
Ugh, those were some nasty pitches to get to 0-2.
   84. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:13 AM (#1596193)
AND WILLIE JUST STANDS THERE LIKE A ####### INCOMPETENT IMBECILE! WHY THE #### IS HE MANAGING THIS ####### TEAM?
   85. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:14 AM (#1596198)
I don't think I can take seeing Todd Jones end the Met season.
   86. Bob Koo Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:15 AM (#1596199)
I'm still stunned that Willie used Takatsu in that situation. Didn't he look at Takatsu's numbers vs. righties this year? I mean, how bad a manager can you be?
   87. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:15 AM (#1596200)
That is a really late appeal. Can they appeal that late?
   88. Benji Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:15 AM (#1596201)
Art Howe is just a phone call away.
   89. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:19 AM (#1596206)
So who do you think Willie uses to pinch-hit for the pitcher?

Matsui? Offerman? Ice? Anderson?

Certainly not Jacobs or Woodward.
   90. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:21 AM (#1596216)
First-pitch Diaz!
   91. cynic Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:21 AM (#1596217)
It'll be either Anderson or Offerman.

I can only hope that the silver lining to this is that Willie gets fired this offseason. He may have wonderful other qualities, but as a tactician, he is truly abominable.
   92. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:22 AM (#1596218)
You guys are crazy. He isn't getting fired. I just hope he gets a better bench coach.
   93. cynic Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:23 AM (#1596221)
Hey, what do you know. It's Not-Mike-Jacobs at the plate.
   94. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:25 AM (#1596224)
If Willie doesn't pinch hit for Cairo, I scream.

He's hitting .244 now!
   95. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:25 AM (#1596225)
Reyes should steal second on the first pitch.

LOOK, THE SEASON IS ON THE LINE AND IT'S MIGUEL CAIRO AT THE PLATE!
   96. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:25 AM (#1596226)
OK, now this is a travesty. How can you let Miguel "I haven't had a hit in about 100 years" hit?
   97. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:25 AM (#1596228)
Please Not Cairo. Please. Please.
   98. Joshemy Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:26 AM (#1596229)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Told you I'd ####### scream. All the people on the floor now think I'm nuts....
   99. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:26 AM (#1596230)
And, what do you know, the 100 year drought ends.

Carlos, this would be a good time.
   100. Old Matt Posted: September 04, 2005 at 01:26 AM (#1596231)
Jesus ####### Christ.

Well, I guess more ironically, it will be Beltran to make the last out.
