Where is everybody?
   2. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:33 PM (#2039810)
It's early and some are in the other chatter.
   3. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:35 PM (#2039812)
Hey, yeah. Crappy Mets lineup today. They'll be lucky to get two off Willis.
   4. AJM Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:35 PM (#2039813)
I'm guessing Glavine will need to pitch a shutout for us to have a chance to win.
   5. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:37 PM (#2039815)
Has everyone decided to hit fly balls to center today?
   6. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:37 PM (#2039817)
I don't what Cabrera is complaining about. Those pitches were clearly strikes.
   7. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:39 PM (#2039819)
I predict a big game from Nady today.
   8. Willinghammer Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:41 PM (#2039820)
wow, we get woodward and franco today? Wright returns today, though. Should be a good pitching duel...basehit d-dub
   9. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:42 PM (#2039821)
Ah, David. Missed ya in the lineup yesterday. Don't ever get hurt again.
   10. Willinghammer Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2039824)
Nady has liked lefties more in his career, but D-Train aint your average lefty :D
   11. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:43 PM (#2039825)
Chemistry has improved? It must be because of PAUL LO DUCA!
   12. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:45 PM (#2039831)
The Mets need to get this run in.
   13. Willinghammer Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:45 PM (#2039832)
julio franco is amazing...c'mon d-train, DP ball
   14. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:46 PM (#2039833)
Key point here. Castro can't leave this up to Matsui.
   15. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:47 PM (#2039834)
What are the chances that Kaz drives a run in? Slim or none?
   16. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:48 PM (#2039836)
Matsui reminds Pinella of Ichiro?

Racist.
   17. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:49 PM (#2039838)
Matsui may be worse than Rey Ordonez. I never thought I could ever say that about anyone in my lifetime.
   18. Willinghammer Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:51 PM (#2039839)
Might you guys be a key player in a trade for Dontrelle at some point this season? I remember reading about the rumors for Wright (which woulda been awesome...for us)...
   19. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:54 PM (#2039842)
Willinghammer, I'm not as big a fan of Willis as most are. I don't think that what he would be worth what I suspect Florida would ask for in a trade. And as poorly as the A's are doing, Zito may be on the market this summer as well.
   20. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2039844)
The Mets and the Marlins don't really match up that well. The Mets are unwilling to give up the guys the Marlins would want for Willis.
   21. Benji Posted: May 27, 2006 at 05:59 PM (#2039846)
Matsui reminded me of Don Bosch, but they realized after less than 2 seasons that Bosch couldn't play. Why is it taking them so long to realize this about Kaz? What do they see? The "great" defense which is just making the easy plays? There is nothing on offense at all. We can't afford an automatic out 4 times a game.
   22. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2039850)
To be fair, Matsui's defense has been good. He isn't just making easy plays.
   23. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:02 PM (#2039851)
I'll give the Marlins Milledge and Humber for Willis.

Deal?
   24. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:04 PM (#2039854)
Reyes has to be more consistent to be a better player.

I will make my stand - Woodward should be the Mets 2bman until the Mets can find a decent one in the market.
   25. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:05 PM (#2039856)
David against Willis. I smell opportunity here.
   26. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:06 PM (#2039857)
DAVID! We missed ya.
   27. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:06 PM (#2039858)
I think the Mets could easily make a deal for either Grudzielanek or Walker.

Stupid ground rule double.
   28. Benji Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:06 PM (#2039859)
David Wright just might be God.
   29. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:09 PM (#2039863)
Matt, I love your writing. But I would sedate you with Haldol and Ativan before I let you make that trade.
   30. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:11 PM (#2039864)
Glavine's getting some good calls today.

Good to see you disagree with me Raskolnikov. Means I'm doing my job.
   31. Willinghammer Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:15 PM (#2039868)
I'd do Milledge and Humber for sure...Reggie Abercrombie got ral hot in May, but he's definitely not the answer long-term or even for the rest of the season hopefully.

My hope would be to trade him to D-backs for Young, Montero, and Owings/Nippert...is that realistic? I try not to be a homer.

Great inning for Glavine...K'd the side.
   32. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:16 PM (#2039869)
61 pitches through 3 for the D-Train.
   33. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#2039870)
Woodward is a butcher defensively though. I'd like to get someone like Walker or Grudzielanek. I wonder if a package including Victor Diaz would be enough.
   34. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:18 PM (#2039871)
Castro!!!!!!!!!!
   35. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:19 PM (#2039872)
Willinghammer, I don't think that you're being unrealistic at all. I think that if the Marlins actually do want to trade Willis, and if they play it right, they could get a nice haul for Willis. But I think the popular opinion on Willis has been judging him on his ML numbers and hasn't really paid attention to his minor league numbers, which indicates that he will drop off a bit from his excellent years.
   36. Benji Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:20 PM (#2039873)
Let's wait until Phillips gets the KC GM job. Then we can steal Grudz and Affeldt.
   37. Spivey Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:21 PM (#2039877)
Milledge is more valuable than Dontrelle Willis. Willis is going to have a lot more years in his career like 2004 than like 2005.

P.S. If David Wright is God, what's that make Miguel Cabrera? Spivey?
   38. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:21 PM (#2039879)
Fidel!

Glavine looks so sharp today.
   39. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:23 PM (#2039880)
Rask, what are you talking about? Willis put a 2.03 ERA in the minors despite being young for the leagues he was in. The only thing that makes people worry about Willis is that he doesn't have a great k/rate. There is a ton of reasons to like Willis.
   40. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:25 PM (#2039882)
I don't care if we have to let Mike Glavine hit again. The Mets should pick up that option for next year. Right now - at the present - Glavine is better than Pedro. There, I said it.
   41. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:25 PM (#2039883)
45 pitches through four.
   42. Willinghammer Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:27 PM (#2039884)
12up...12 down. hey, can an opposing fan jinx it? :D
   43. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:27 PM (#2039885)
Let's wait until Phillips gets the KC GM job. Then we can steal Grudz and Affeldt.

Either Phillips or Ed Wade. Whatever it is, a win-win for the Mets.
   44. Benji Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:27 PM (#2039886)
Prof, when I pre-ranked all MLB players for my auto-pick draft, I ranked Cabrera #2 behind Pujols. So he's God too.
   45. Spivey Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:28 PM (#2039887)
Who the hell is Mike Glavine?
   46. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:29 PM (#2039889)
Who the hell is Mike Glavine?

Tom's little brother. The Mets game him seven at-bats in 2003 as a present for Tom.
   47. Willinghammer Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:30 PM (#2039890)
thank god we're pitching past wright...nady loves lefties though.
   48. Benji Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:30 PM (#2039891)
Mike Glavine was what we were stuck with when Leiter and Franco were the de facto Met GMs.
   49. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:32 PM (#2039892)
Russlan, I do know about Willis's minor league numbers. But I remember a thread discussing Willis's numbers in context and in projection, and they were not as impressive as the raw stats. Mostly they were reservations about his K, but also about his numbers in context. It was a hot subject of contention back when Willis was still a first-look phenom.
   50. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:35 PM (#2039895)
Mike Glavine's only start came on 9/25/03. This was the lineup:

1. Cedeno rf
2. McEwing 2b
3. Perez cf
4. Piazza c
5. Wigginton 3b
6. Gonzalez lf
7. Velandia ss
8. M. Glavine 1b
9. T. Glavine p

Relievers in that game? Grant Roberts (took the loss), Jaime Cerda, Dan Wheeler and Pedro Feliciano.
   51. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:36 PM (#2039896)
Strikeouts and fielding practice for the infielders. Glavine is at the top of his game.
   52. Shock Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:36 PM (#2039898)
When did Dontrelle quit doing his high leg kick?
   53. Benji Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:38 PM (#2039899)
Timo batting third. One look at that lineup and I thank God once again for Omar Minaya.
   54. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:38 PM (#2039900)
Has Tom Glavine ever pitched as well as he is currently?
   55. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:41 PM (#2039901)
Matsui up again. Come on, Kaz.
   56. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:42 PM (#2039902)
Well, in 98 Glavine was 20-6 with a 2.46 ERA. That was his best season, by far.
   57. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:46 PM (#2039903)
I actually don't like the idea of Glavine getting on base. I'd rather have him focus on his task at hand. And I definitely don't want him running hard on the basepaths.
   58. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:48 PM (#2039904)
Woodward with a chance to blow this thing open.
   59. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:52 PM (#2039906)
Endy Chavez has to come in for Nady right now.
   60. ChadBradfordWannabe Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:53 PM (#2039907)
since I can't watch the game thanks to MLB.TV national blackout. I'm assuming Glavine is pitching like the Glavine of this year. Basically, he's throwing inside a lot, isn't he?
   61. Capital City Goofball Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:53 PM (#2039908)
Oh well...
   62. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:53 PM (#2039909)
Damn. I really thought today was the day.
   63. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:54 PM (#2039910)
Damn.
   64. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:54 PM (#2039911)
Oh well, at least it wasn't a cheapy.
   65. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:55 PM (#2039912)
I have that strange feeling... the same one I had last year when Pedro was dominating the Dodgers.
   66. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:56 PM (#2039914)
It begins...
   67. Spivey Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:57 PM (#2039916)
Mortal Kombat?
   68. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 06:58 PM (#2039919)
What was that about Nady?
   69. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:00 PM (#2039921)
I have that strange feeling... the same one I had last year when Pedro was dominating the Dodgers.

Stop! Get that game out of your head. I had complete erased it from my mind.
   70. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:04 PM (#2039924)
Nah, Tommy's got this one under control. This is going to be one heck of a game score today.
   71. Capital City Goofball Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:05 PM (#2039925)
Great quote from Piniella - "I like young players, but you have to be patient with them..."
   72. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:05 PM (#2039927)
Willis is out. Time to bring out the lefty lumber.
   73. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:07 PM (#2039929)
Damn. Nice grab by Fitch.
   74. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:09 PM (#2039930)
Wright is officialy back. 3-for-3, plus a walk.
   75. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:12 PM (#2039937)
Father Time strikes again!
   76. Banta Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:13 PM (#2039939)
I've been watching most of this game, but Glavine was doing so well, I didn't want to move. Sometimes I really wonder if the Mets really will never see a nohitter.

OLD MAN FRANCO RULES!
   77. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2039940)
Old Man Franco!
   78. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:15 PM (#2039941)
That joke went right over Lou's head.
   79. Benji Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:16 PM (#2039944)
What will come first, the Met no hitter or the Met batting champion?
   80. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:17 PM (#2039947)
Wondering if and when the Marlins may be interested in moving Cabrera ...
   81. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2039948)
OLE!
   82. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:22 PM (#2039956)
88 pitches through seven. Give him a shot at the complete game Willie.
   83. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:23 PM (#2039958)
That should be it for Glavine considering that the Met bullpen is pretty well rested. Another fine outing for Glavine, who along with Webb of Arizona, have to be the leadng NL Cy Young Candidates.
   84. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2039959)
Matsui reminds Pinella of Ichiro.

Once again, Pinella is a racist.
   85. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:25 PM (#2039960)
"The Mets would be happy to get Ichiro out of Matsui."

I'd be thrilled with Tadahito Iguchi.
   86. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:26 PM (#2039961)
I have to give him credit for this, Matsui has a knack for fouling off pitches. Are we sure that his eyes are okay?
   87. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:26 PM (#2039963)
MATSUI GOT A HIT!
   88. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2039965)
Matsui with a hit. I am shocked.
   89. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2039967)
I'd be glad to get Rey Ordonez out of Matsui.
   90. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:34 PM (#2039971)
Reyes has put in a pretty poor game himself.
   91. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:39 PM (#2039980)
Excellent at-bat by Beltran. He's a changed man.
   92. Banta Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:39 PM (#2039981)
Excellent, Beltran.

Good bounceback from the offense today. Especially for playing with Delgado and Floyd.
   93. Banta Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2039984)
I meant, without.
   94. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2039985)
4-for-4, two doubles, a walk, a run and an RBI.

Not a bad day.
   95. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2039986)
C'mon David, let's make it a 4-4 day in the boxscore.

Alright!
   96. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2039987)
Two RBIs, actually.
   97. Russlan will never be fond of Jason Bay Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2039989)
With this game well in hand, I'm going to watch the Brave game.
   98. Bobby Bonilla's Annuity (Matt) Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:50 PM (#2039997)
Dammit, that screws up his ERA.
   99. Raskolnikov Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:51 PM (#2039999)
Ouch, that won't help the ERA. Time to take Glavine out.
   100. Banta Posted: May 27, 2006 at 07:51 PM (#2040000)
This Marlin team is pesky. Like gnats.

They seem to like fastballs over the middle of the plate. Who would have thought it?
