Cubs season HR pace: 124
Starlin Castro NL dWAR rank: 1 (Barney is 2)
Bryan LaHair MLB OPS+ rank (minimum 3.1 PA/team game): 8
Ian Stewart MLB OPS+ rank: t146, out of 172 official qualifiers
Ryan Dempster MLB ERA+ rank (minimum 1 IP/team game): t5
Paul Maholm MLB ERA+ rank: t91, out of 115 official qualifiers
Team defensive efficiency (NL rank): .709 (3)

This is the first time this season they've been over the 120.5 over/under for HR. They're still 13th in the NL, though.

Nice play by Soriano there. He's made a lot of diving plays this year, and most of the time I've thought they were plays that he made look harder than they were. But that one was pretty solid, and he got the DP out of it also.

And now he just hit his 7th HR, also, to go with 9 doubles on the season. Which means that he now has a clean 2:1 extra-base hit to GIDP ratio.

I hope this chef falls out of the booth. This is tortorous.
   5. Brian C Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:22 PM (#4142295)
Yeah, that was bad. Brenly seemed so contemptuous that wouldn't even explain the balk to him.
   6. SouthSideRyan Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:26 PM (#4142301)
Neither Len or Bob are hiding how big an idiot they think he was.
   7. SteveM. Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:36 PM (#4142309)
I missed that. Who was the chef?
   8. SouthSideRyan Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:37 PM (#4142310)
Samardzija really shouldn't have been out there.

Duff Goldman was the chef. I've never heard of him.
   9. SteveM. Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:40 PM (#4142313)
Never heard of him. Given the Cubs bullpen, I would ride my starters as long as I could too.

My wife used to watch his show from time to time - one of those cake shows on TLC or some such.

Why shouldn't Samardzija have been out there? He had thrown 87 pitches to start the inning and was mostly dominant.
   11. Brian C Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:41 PM (#4142318)
"Ace of Cakes" is the name of the show.

Nice job by Baker.
   12. Brian C Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:42 PM (#4142320)
Also, it was on Food Network, not TLC. I know you appreciate knowing this.
   13. SouthSideRyan Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:42 PM (#4142321)
Because he wasn't mostly dominant in the 7th.
   14. SteveM. Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:43 PM (#4142324)
Great job by Camp. How many times have we said that about a Cubs reliever this season?
   15. Dan The Mediocre Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:45 PM (#4142327)
Besides the singing, what was so bad about the chef?
   16. Brian C Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:45 PM (#4142329)
I would not have given good odds of Shawn Camp getting out of that inning without allowing the tying run.

Because he wasn't mostly dominant in the 7th.

A couple singles to go with two strikeouts. He was hardly getting knocked around out there.
   17. Brian C Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:47 PM (#4142331)
Besides the singing, what was so bad about the chef?

Constant laughing at his own jokes, making a big deal about how he knew nothing about baseball, etc. Just obnoxious, as if they had brought one of the bros from one of the Wrigleyville bars up to the booth.
   18. Brian C Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:48 PM (#4142332)
Hey look, an Andrew Cashner sighting.
   19. SouthSideRyan Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:49 PM (#4142334)
It wasn't just the results, he wasn't hitting his spots, just didn't look like he was nearly as crisp.

   20. SteveM. Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:53 PM (#4142338)
Someone explain to me why you wouldn't pinch hit LaHair here for Baker against a righty.
   21. SteveM. Posted: May 29, 2012 at 04:53 PM (#4142339)
Never mind.
   22. Brian C Posted: May 29, 2012 at 05:06 PM (#4142348)
Uh-oh.
   23. SteveM. Posted: May 29, 2012 at 05:10 PM (#4142354)
At least there is one team worse then the Cubs.
   24. Brian C Posted: May 29, 2012 at 05:10 PM (#4142355)
Whew. Cubs win! Give the honorary 'W' to Camp today.
