Nice start to the game.

Ryan Jackson reaches base in the majors for the first time in his career, with a walk. Unless you are a first round draft pick, there is no reason the opposition should walk you until you have proven you can hit a major league pitch.

Ties it up, and a poor decision by the left fielder (or the shortstop to not cut off that throw)

At no point in August, is there a must win game being played. This announcer has now said that the Pirates have had four in the past couple of weeks. NO, just NO. Nobody has ever played a must win game in August during the divisional era.

I always make fun of the announcers of national broadcasts because it's so easy. They are talking about the Cardinals lack of offense because they sometimes score 1 or 2 runs in a game.....

Hometown scoring gives Robinson a double.
   7. cardsfanboy Posted: August 18, 2012 at 05:31 PM (#4211541)
Announcer "If I'm the hitter right now, I'm trying to drive the runner in, with the pitcher on deck, no point in giving up an at bat".....really.. Thank you Captain Obvious.
   8. cardsfanboy Posted: August 18, 2012 at 05:39 PM (#4211550)
Get the lead and immediately give up a run....UGH.

Tied game thanks to a wild pitch/passed ball...

"This is another situation, I would hate to belabor the point, but why the Cardinals are where they are at"

These announcers are belaboring the point, and keep trying to say that the Cardinals aren't scoring or taking advantage of the situations....selective arguments. The Cardinals are first in scoring, because they do a pretty good job of taking advantage, yes there are games where they didn't, and they lost... but that is the norm for every team, there is nothing different about the cardinals inability to take advantage except that they have the most opportunities so are going to have the most failures.

It's to bad that the Cardinals just never deliver when they need to.

And the other idiot called it a ground rule double.....UGH....

If you ask casual Cardinal fans who the MVP of the Cardinals is this year, Molina is going to win that debate hands down.

Big reason RISP
Molina .329,.407,.544,.951
Beltran .309 .420 .609 1.029
Holliday .261 .373 .400 .773

Average is more important than obp....to some.

It might just be the games I have watched, but the Pirates seem to make a lot of mistakes. Not talking errors, but just played the ball wrong or wrong decision etc. Yes the Cardinals made a clear mistake early in the game leading to the first run, but it seems like the Pirates are just a fundamentally worse team.

Motte just needs to avoid back-to-back-to-back homeruns.... easy save, let's see if he rebounds from last nights performance.

Uggh. no reason for the second baseman to be calling off the outfielder on that play.
   15. cardsfanboy Posted: August 18, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4211597)
Error on Freese, with hometown scorekeepers I'm surprised they didn't call it a base hit. My fault, I badmouth the Pirates fundamentals, and that means our team is bound to screw up....bases loaded no outs now.... Great going guys.

Bases loaded, no outs and the presumptive MVP is up to bat..... never a good sign.

A one run game that the Cardinals got a win in. Great. although they didn't need to make it so interesting, I thought we had Veres/Isringhausen closing it out today.
