That would be weird, considering McClure was Bobby's hand-picked guy.

Both are behind the times i seems - McClure was a joke at Kansas, right?

   102. Jay Seaver Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:05 PM (#4140490)
That's kind of a tough error on Byrd.
   103. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:07 PM (#4140492)
Eh. It was clear Sutton wasn't going for 2nd until he saw the bobble. I thnk that's a good call by the scorer.
   104. Jay Seaver Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4140496)
Wow. I knew Kevin Costner's career had sort of hit the skids, but a History Channel mini-series is further down than I'd expected.
   105. Answer Guy Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:17 PM (#4140499)
Im beginning to believe they will never eclipse .500 this year.

Too much frontline talent for that, assuming there aren't even more injuries on the horizon.

This game is probably on here in DC but I am watching Star Wars again. It still makes me angry because Greedo just shot first. Lucas just couldn't leave well enough alone....
   106. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:18 PM (#4140501)
Byrd vs Badenhop is a sure GIDP.
   107. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:19 PM (#4140503)
Greedo did NOT shoot first. That was just a random flash of light and not a complete change in a character's personality that would make no sense!
   108. Jay Seaver Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:19 PM (#4140504)
I've actually half-talked myself into not minding Greedo shooting first and just wishing the effect for it looked less awkward, but I'm a noted Lucas apologist.

More pitchers who can't find the strike zone, but I'm betting it doesn't result in more runs. That's just how tonight's going.
   109. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4140506)
BABIP luck!
   110. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4140509)
Two batters two bunt attempts, wonder if there is a report on Badenops defense.
   111. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4140510)
Podsednik can't even bunt properly?
   112. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:23 PM (#4140511)
Wow do I hate that move. Give up a run down by four.
   113. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:24 PM (#4140512)
Why bunt?
   114. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:24 PM (#4140513)
That was a shitty bunt too.
   115. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:25 PM (#4140515)
I like the bunt there, getting 2 RISP for the top of the order, with a shitty hitter who theoretically can bunt such that he has a shot to reach base. Of course his bunt barely got away from the catcher and he had no shot at reaching, but it was a good idea, I think.
   116. Answer Guy Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:25 PM (#4140516)
They added Jabba. He used the same lines on Jabba he did on Greedo. Why the #### does this bother me as much as it does? Part of me knows it's irrational and this movie has plot holes you can drive a truck through....
   117. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:26 PM (#4140517)
I am so angry at the bunt
   118. Chip Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:26 PM (#4140518)
Podsednik already had a hit today. Maybe Bobby decided tempting the gods by expecting another one was too much.
   119. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:26 PM (#4140519)
If you have that little faith in Podsednik strt Lin, pinch hit Middlebrooks or call up Linares.
   120. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:27 PM (#4140521)
At least the Rays bullpen sucks.
   121. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:28 PM (#4140523)
That Elliot Johnson fiasco is looming large - my god

Pods was really not going to much in all likelihood , maybe the bunt wasn't something to be "so angry" at.

   122. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:28 PM (#4140524)
Bunting with runners on 1st and 2nd with your #9 hitter against a groundball pitcher is simply not a bad move. Valentine makes enough bad moves to criticize without adding ones that aren't.
   123. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:29 PM (#4140525)
A #9 hitter who is like the 9th OFer on your depth chart, no less.
   124. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4140526)
Badenhop has a 56% groundball rate over his career. The chance of a double play there is considerable.
   125. Answer Guy Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:33 PM (#4140529)
That's kind of how the season has been going.
   126. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4140530)
Thought he had that, imagine my horror when it was even short of the warning track
   127. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4140532)
Of course they can't get the big inning today with Youks to Sutton earlier, and now Ortiz flying out

   128. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4140535)
You've gotta make a better throw than that to double off Upton there.
   129. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4140536)
Tough play for Nava. He would have had to throw right over Upton's head and could have sound up throwing it away.
   130. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4140537)
Upton should be out twice if the defense was competent.
   131. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4140540)
Scotty Atchinson keeping the sox in the game

Fortunately Atkinson isn't the current version of Lester, so he didn't collapse into a puddle of angry tears of failure when something went wrong.

Or Beckett. Or Buzhholz. Or Bard.

Gonzalez redoubles his efforts to ground out weakly as frequently as he can.

Youks putting up much better at bats since his return from the DL, or is it just me?
   137. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4140550)

Amazing the difference it makes when you aren't playing through an injury.
   138. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:53 PM (#4140551)
I'm praying he gets on base here ...
   139. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4140552)
Great at bat by Youk. Nice job by McGee too to finish it off.
   140. Chip Posted: May 25, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4140554)
Chased a bad one on the 13th pitch, and paid for it.

Sensational
Matt Albers - ugh

(Paid on the 14th pitch, I mean.)

Looked like ball 4 - but a great at bat none the less
   144. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4140560)
What a play by Aviles!
   145. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4140561)
Aviles has been much better on defense than I was expecting. He also has a lot more power than I thought.
   146. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:07 PM (#4140563)
You know what - I really like this team (except the rotation)

That Aviles play and Youks at bat are testaments to the fight they are showing

The great marlon byrd
   148. Jay Seaver Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:22 PM (#4140566)
If I believed in players being hit deliberately, I think Scott would merit it for the facial hair alone.

But, really, this is stupid.
   149. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:22 PM (#4140567)
Coaches and managers seem more worked up than the players.
   150. Chip Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4140568)
I approve of hitting Luke Scott in the legs as frequently as possible.

Good use of brouhaha by Remy.
   152. Answer Guy Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4140570)
Yeah, that was kinda dumb if on purpose but there's probably no player in MLB I'd rather see suffer pain than Luke Scott.
   153. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4140571)
Morales should be tossed.
   154. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4140572)
That was fun
   155. Jay Seaver Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4140573)
149 - The players aren't stupid; they know they'd wind up on the DL for a month and a half with a bizarre injury if they really got into it.
   156. Chip Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4140574)
B.J. Upton going after fans in the stands, and the umpires totally unaware.
   157. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4140575)
Warnings, wow that's dumb.
   158. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4140576)
Carlos Pena doesn't seem like a guy who gets upset too often.
   159. Answer Guy Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4140578)
He went into the stands? Hope they injure his dumb ass.
   160. Jay Seaver Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:28 PM (#4140579)
This is a clever plan to provoke retaliation in the 9th and get a baserunner or two out of it.
   161. Chip Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:28 PM (#4140580)
He was held back by teammates from actually crossing the wall.
   162. Answer Guy Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4140581)
I don't normally root for players to get injured, but you kind of assume the risk in a situation of that sort.

   163. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:31 PM (#4140582)
Nice fight by the Sox, looking forward to the 1-2-3 inning to end the game.
   164. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:31 PM (#4140583)
Molina in for Rodney framing.
   165. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:35 PM (#4140585)
If nothing else we've made them use the bullpen a bit more than maybe they should've needed in a 7-1 game.
   166. Answer Guy Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:36 PM (#4140586)
I can't say that this team has zero fight in it, because they have battled back into things a couple times, but this still doesn't look like a team that's going anywhere.
   167. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:37 PM (#4140587)
This is a 77 win team isn't it? So depressing.
   168. Chip Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:37 PM (#4140588)
Would be nice if Rodney would start reverting to career norms this weekend.
   169. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:38 PM (#4140589)
Sox went 0 for 11 after the sac bunt. You have to take your shot when you get it, you might not get another.
   170. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:39 PM (#4140591)
This team is pathetic. They can't beat the Rays so they'll just throw at Scott instead? That'll totally fix everything.
   171. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:39 PM (#4140592)

Agree - but I'm enjoying watching them play and hopeing they can hang around till a few players get back

Lester giving up 7 runs to this line up is totally unacceptable - no swearing no nothing from me - just resignation that the rotation is freaking joke - they really are.

   172. Dan Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:39 PM (#4140593)

What does the 0-11 have to do with the sac bunt?

I haven't moved off of 84. There's a chance that it's 77 but would require the missing injured to stay that way, and Beckett/Lester to struggle the whole season.
   174. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: May 25, 2012 at 10:42 PM (#4140595)
Nothing to do with the bunt, but the point is you don't give up the out in that situation because you need to play for the big inning.
