Atchison for closer!
   202. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4102097)
That was a depressingly quick inning
   203. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4102098)
Nova somehow only has allowed 2 runs in 7 innings despite giving up 10 hits.
   204. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4102100)
I still do not believe in Atchison as an effective MLB pitcher.
   205. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4102101)
I have a soft spot for Atchison. Maybe it's his story or that he works fast and throws strikes.
   206. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:33 PM (#4102102)
A home run or four would be nice here.
   207. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4102104)
Nolan Giesbrecht: I'm located in London Ontario.
   208. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4102105)
Atchison is a prime example that'll how just throwing the damned thing over the plate can get you a long way.
   209. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4102106)
BELIEVE!!
   210. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4102108)
I think I would have let Alvarez go till he gave up a baserunner.

Either way that was an impressive start.
   211. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4102109)
Papi really is doing a great job going the other way.
   212. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:35 PM (#4102110)
I Love Ortiz.

Papi really is doing a great job going the other way.
The gut's out of the way.

It bothers me more than it should that Ross is wearing Trot's number.
   214. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4102115)
Why would he argue that it hit the ground?
   215. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4102116)
I'm located in London Ontario.

Cool. I'm in Winnipeg, but my wife is from near London (Kerwood) and is out there right now visiting family.
   216. Textbook Editor Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4102117)
Isn't Ross supposed to mash LHP? Or do I have the wrong spare outfielder in mind? I haven't paid much attention in ST.
   217. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4102118)
That's some quality lefty mashing, Ross.
   218. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4102122)
It bothers me more than it should that Ross is wearing Trot's number.

I think you mean JD Drew's number.
   219. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4102125)
Oh he looked safe.
   220. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4102126)
And a beautiful throw!
   221. Jay Seaver Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4102127)
WTF you thinkin, Papi? The element of surprise only goes so far!
   222. Textbook Editor Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4102128)
Um... Wha?
   223. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4102129)
Nope, out.
   224. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4102130)
He does have to get a better lead there.
   225. Chip Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4102132)
Ugh.
   226. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4102133)
Every batter is down 0-2. For cripes sakes, it's Darren Oliver.
   227. Textbook Editor Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4102134)
See, on a bang-bang play, Papi will never, ever get the benefit of the doubt on a SB attempt--so why bother trying?
   228. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4102135)
This guy doesn't have much. They should be crushing him.
   229. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4102136)
That was ####### stupid.
   230. Phil Coorey. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4102137)
How ####### stupid can this team get? I really enjoy watching them play - they remind me of myself - a total ####### nutcase who has no idea what he is going to do next.
   231. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4102138)
I like the gamble, Atencibia put the throw right on the money. Anything else and he's safe.
   232. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4102139)
His fastball wasn't great, but that was a pretty curve.
   233. Chip Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4102140)
Junkballed again by Darren Oliver.
   234. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4102142)
See, on a bang-bang play, Papi will never, ever get the benefit of the doubt on a SB attempt--so why bother trying?

That's simple physics. When a mass that size (like Ortiz or Fielder) is moving, it bends the light around it, confusing the umpires enough into thinking the throw got there in time (when in fact, it hadn't quite reached glove yet).
   235. Gamingboy Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4102143)
Do they still have that "Okay, Blue Jays, Let's Play Ball" song at the 7th inning? Or do they play "Maple Leaf Forever" to try and keep up with the Yankees' "God Bless America"?
   236. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4102146)
Every time I see Darren Oliver take the mound, I'm astounded that he's still pitching.
   237. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4102148)
It was "Okay Blue Jays" last year. I can't imagine going back to the retro logo that they'd ditch the retro song.
   238. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:46 PM (#4102150)
Now Kelly Johnson takes Atch deep.
   239. Chip Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4102155)
Those are six very useful outs accumulated by Atchison.
   240. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4102157)
Atchison surprisingly effective. Somehow.
   241. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4102159)
Who comes out of the pen for the 8th for the Sox? Bowden? More Atchison?

"Okay Blue Jays" is a thing? I mean, I understand "Okay" and "Jays" rhymes (well, more or less) but what kind of rallying cry is "Okay"?
   245. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4102165)
I think I'm ready for the Ryan Lavarnway era.
   246. Chip Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4102166)
What a dreadful AB by Salty.
   247. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4102167)

It goes something like:
"Okay!
Blue Jays!
Lets!
Play!
Ball!"

It then goes on about something with the umpire's call, hot dogs and something...

Well that was adequate by Lind.

Lind has reallysurprised me with the glove today.
   258. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4102178)
Sometimes it jsut isn't your day. Apparently for this team those times are every day.
   259. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4102179)

Hopefully West Ham can pull it together for the playoffs. I fear what happens if they miss out on promotion this season.

Total snowcone by Lind on the replay.

With Hal Johnson and Joanne Mcloud!
   265. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4102186)
I like that Bobby sticks with a reliever who has it. I'm sure at some point it'll bite him in the ass but no need to go looking for the guy who doesn't have it.
   266. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4102187)
Girardi had Robertson throw 28 pitches in a 4 run game. Somebody's desperate to log a win.
   267. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4102188)
Do you think Ross had a chance to score? I think he gets thrown out.

The one to regret is the call at home.

It's both refreshing and jarring given the way that almost every manager restricts basically everyone but the designated long guy to one inning these days.
   269. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4102190)
The one to regret is the call at home.

More than the call would be the fact that Salty wasn't blocking the plate at all, or ready to receive the throw and tag Rasmus.
   270. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4102191)
I think you HAVE to go in that spot. Force the first baseman to make a throw, if Ross' is properly ready to break as soon as the ball is hit I think he makes it.
   271. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4102192)
I feel bad for ####-talking Atchison, given his performance today. He's earned some slack.

In other words the opposite of Tito, who always seemed to be searching for the guy who would suck that night.

The back of the 'pen has been great last two games.
   273. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4102194)
If we tie it or take the lead does Atchison pitch the ninth?

This is my opinion as well, especially with the bottom of the order up. Force the defense to make the play.

Looking forward to watching my boy , RG3.

Hammers are in real trouble if they don't go up - oh well - premier league is boring anyway!!

To be fair, it wasn't like he used him for multiple innings. Robertson got two outs--thanks in part to a couple of iffy calls on Markakis--then allowed two hits and some full counts.

I'm sure Mo will pitch the ninth though.

I predict it will end with you saying something along the lines of a creative execution of a anatomical function meant for both pleasure and procreation.

So our worst performing relief pitcher is our closer?

Ugh.

I don't want another extra inning game!

I've got three K's to end the game as my prediction
   288. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4102210)
Should I just root for another wild pitch? It feels like the only way we'll score.
   289. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:06 PM (#4102211)
Yes, Dan, you should.
