Blown saves are the order in the AL East. Has anyone in the division converted a save yet?

Fernando Rodney has two! Each one was 1 out.
   302. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:10 PM (#4102227)
Santos would've had a save if Luis Perez didn't run back out when he was supposed to stay in the dugout
   303. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:10 PM (#4102228)
And Rivera is about to close out a 4 run lead for the Yankees! It's almost like a save!
   304. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4102229)
This would be a useful moment for Ross to go deep.
   305. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4102230)
Thank god no pinch runner.
   306. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:11 PM (#4102231)
302: is that what happened? I was wondering why Perez started that inning when I was watching that game. Announcers speculated that Santos wasn't quite ready. So Santos got ###### by the Sam Fuld Rule?
   307. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4102232)
Lawrie will hit a walk-off in the bottom of the ninth, Canada will explode.

History DOES repeat itself sometimes...

Ross misses the cement mixer.
   309. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:13 PM (#4102234)
No reason for Santos to throw a fastball, Roas can't hit a breaking ball.
   310. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:14 PM (#4102235)
I don't hate this but I don't like it either.
   311. Jay Seaver Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:14 PM (#4102237)
I don't get this. If you're going to pinch-run for Ortiz, doesn't it make more sense when there's farther to run?
   312. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4102238)
The Blue Jays relief pitchers have thrown 20 innings, and Santos has given up 2 of the 3 runs.
   313. Phil Coorey. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4102239)
Something just went the Sox way!!
   314. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4102240)
Yes!
   315. Jay Seaver Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4102241)
Never mind! Woo! Lead in the 9th!

Do. Not. Mess. This. Up.
   316. Nolan Giesbrecht Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4102243)
Dan: yeah, once he crossed the white line he had to pitch ton batter. At that point Santos was already running out from the bullpen.

And man is Santos irritating. When the Jays acquired him I was so happy that we find ally had a shut down closer. And man the Jays are screwing get the inning.
   317. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4102244)
Again Ross should have kept coming, make them, make the play.
   318. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4102245)
Sorry...make that 3 of the 4 runs.
   319. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4102246)
Pinch runner pays off.
   320. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4102248)
How is McDonald a pinch runner? What kind of a jump was that?
   321. Chip Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4102250)
Terrible throw.

Ross should have scored when the ball got away.
   322. Gamingboy Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:16 PM (#4102251)
Great going, Boston, you are going to kill the excitement of 2012 Baseball in Canada!
   323. Phil Coorey. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4102252)
Need some insurance - at least 5 runs...
   324. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4102253)
I don't get this. If you're going to pinch-run for Ortiz, doesn't it make more sense when there's farther to run?

No. Really only worth running once he's in scoring position since when he's on first you're really expecting extra innings.
   325. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4102254)
If Aceves blows this I predict that Bard does not start tomorrow night.
   326. Chip Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4102255)
Orsillo & Remy incompetently refuse to tell us who is in the pen for the Sox now.
   327. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4102256)
Great going, Boston, you are going to kill the excitement of 2012 Baseball in Canada!

It's just going to be more exciting when Aceves blows it.
   328. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4102257)
That's crazy talk. Bard starts tomorrow no matter what.
   329. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4102258)

Guessing that the higher frequency of singles makes the difference.

Orsillo & Remy incompetently refuse to tell us who is in the pen for the Sox now.

At the start of the inning they said Aceves was warming. I assume it hasn't changed.
   331. Chip Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:19 PM (#4102262)
Thank you Santos, may we have another?
   332. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:20 PM (#4102264)
I'm guessing that this pitch count puts Santos on the shelf for tomorrow's game too?
   333. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:20 PM (#4102265)
Bard is not being switched to the pen before his first start.

If this game goes 14 innings, Valentine will have a position player pitch before Bard.
   334. Jay Seaver Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:20 PM (#4102266)
Awwwww, no more Santos?
   335. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:22 PM (#4102269)
I stand by it, if Aceves doesn't get it done they call up Aaron Cook for the start and move Bard to the pen.
   336. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4102271)
I have no confidence right now.
   337. Random Transaction Generator Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4102272)
I'm torn.

I have Aceves on my Scoresheet roster, so I don't want him to get hammered (again).
That said, he's not in any REAL position to screw me over badly if he does blow up.

#### it.

Lawrie single.
Thames double.
J.P. HR.

Crowd. Goes. Wild.

No way. Morales moves into the #2 position behind Melancon (for now). #3 is Padilla, #4 Atchison (for now) and then Aceves. Who are they gonna send down for Cook? He's a late season/injury replacement. He hasn't proved jack yet.
   339. Phil Coorey. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4102275)
Yep - I'm nervous

Uncomputable ERA!
   341. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4102280)
I'm calling it: Aceves' new nickname is "Uncomputable."
   342. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4102283)
That did not compute!
   343. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4102284)
Aceves no longer has an uncomputable ERA!
   344. Chip Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4102285)
An out!
   345. Jay Seaver Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4102286)
And Aceves's ERA drops an infinite amount.
   346. Phil Coorey. Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4102287)
So , that's his first out for the year?!
   347. Dale Sams Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4102288)

No but Valentine should be fired for going with Aceves rather than Bowden or anyone else.
   348. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4102289)
Eh, it doesn't really work.

Bobby V's teeth are too white.

81's good, right?

Two outs!
   354. Gamingboy Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:30 PM (#4102304)
40.50. Good old Gameday. Fun to watch the ERA stuff.

He's got better movement on the FB than Santos, we can say that for him.

95?? Where was that yesterday?

Aceves throwing pure gas, and actually not throwing it into guys' wheelhouses!

Uh, yeah, that's a swing.

Grr. Question mark works, but it was an infinity symbol when I typed it.

A win! Nifty!

   369. Mattbert Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4102322)
Hallelujah! Holy s**t. Where's the Tylenol?
   370. Gamingboy Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4102324)
27 ERA. Red Sox and Yankees both win, the Twins still suck and I'm pretty sure Yu Darvish is in line for the win.

Baseball!
   371. Darren Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4102325)
Yay!

Orsillo: "High hop and he's gotta hurry..." Ha.

He looked unhittable.

Just put on the A's game - the Oakland Coliseum cannot have more than 5000 fans in the stands.

Pitching in COLORADO, no less.

Eck raving about Doubront on the post game.
   379. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:39 PM (#4102337)
Doubront pitched really well. He wasn't getting any benefit of the doubt on the strike zone either. He probably could've gone another inning with a more generous HP umpire.

Well, if it's any consolation, the Jays look like they are for real.
   384. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:48 PM (#4102349)
I wish MLB.tv would give us post-game shows. I'd like to see Eck, Bobby V pressers, and Girardi pressers after Yankee losses.
   385. Dan Posted: April 09, 2012 at 10:50 PM (#4102350)
The Jays are probably good enough to be the 2nd or 3rd best team in the NL, but to my eyes they're still a step behind the top 6 AL teams. I also don't see enough upgrades to gain them the 10+ wins they'd need to gain year to year.

We'll have to see how it plays out, but the pitching was great, loss notwithstanding. I guess I should have waited until the end of the series to make the pronouncement, but they look like a much tougher team than I was expecting.
