McDonald to the DL, Ellsbury to the 60 day DL. they made it Saturday I think.
   102. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4133541)
Gomez has been on the roster since prior to Sunday's game, when Darnell McDonald went on the DL.

ZZ Top, 3 Doors down, and Gretchen Wilson: What are three acts you could not pay me to see, Alex?
   104. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:46 PM (#4133544)
I like the idea of having Gomez hit there. It didn't work but that's the Bobby Valentine I was expecting, unconventional but potentially effective move made on merit rather than status.
   105. Darren Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4133545)
Is nothing a strike now?
   106. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4133546)

Agreed.
   107. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4133547)
No on ZZ Top Darren? I've heard they put on a good show.
   108. Darren Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4133549)
ZZ Top--they just seem so.... blah.
   109. Darren Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:51 PM (#4133554)
Then again, I'm kinda biased against the old rockers who just keep hanging on.
   110. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:51 PM (#4133555)
But hey have wacky beards! And the guy who doesn't have a beard is named Beard!
   111. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4133556)
Are the Rays really this brilliant or have they been very lucky in having every one of their call ups and acquisition turn into stars? And is their positioning really this good or are they blah blah blah.

I think their manager is just sensational - they strike bullpen gold every year it seems - yep - I hate them!
   112. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:53 PM (#4133557)
And the quick hook for Albers as soon as he surrenders a baserunner, with Pena coming to the plate. Does this mean he's at the end of a six-week sorting through of bullpen arms to see who can do what for him this year?
   113. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4133559)
Balk-a-palooza
   114. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4133560)
Where'd that miss?
   115. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4133561)
Ok, these balks are getting out of control.
   116. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4133562)
Where'd that 2-2 to Pena miss?
   117. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4133563)
Joe Maddon magic induces another balk.

How was the 2-2 not a called strike to Pena?
   118. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4133564)
Cokes all around.
   119. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4133565)
How was the 2-2 not a called strike to Pena?

I started walking away from the TV assuming it would be called - insane
   120. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4133566)
It wasn't called a strike because the ump was watching to see if Peña swung or not, not looking at the pitch, like always happens on check swings.
   121. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4133567)
That was a big fat hanger to Pedroia for strike one.
   122. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:58 PM (#4133568)
And of course Pedroia swings through a much better curve for strike two.
   123. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4133570)
For some reason it feels like we're down by more than a run.
   124. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4133571)
Hasn't Joel Peralta been shitty this year?
   125. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4133572)
For some reason it feels like we're down by more than a run.

Agree - if they could pull this game out somehow, it would be a huge momentum turner I feel.

But if I place too much importance in this game I lose the plot which I have been trying desperately hard not to !

   126. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:02 PM (#4133573)
Fooled him on the 3-1 breaking ball - Maddon Magic strikes again!
   127. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4133574)
5.79 ERA for Peralta.

Ortiz somehow fails to crush another hanging curveball, grounds out instead.
   128. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4133575)
An Ag homer would be cool - that first pitch looked outside...
   129. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4133576)
The last year and a half any deficit has felt insurmountable. I'm not sure why that is but it's how I've felt.
   130. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4133577)
What a terrible 3-1 swing that was.
   131. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4133578)
Peralta's secret weapon seems to be the hanger. Gonzalez almost swung at it on the 0-2.
   132. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4133579)
Jesus Christ
   133. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:06 PM (#4133580)

Gonzalez still looks completely lost up there. He never even looks like he could hit a home run.
   134. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:06 PM (#4133581)
Those were three terrible ABs against terrible pitches. It's not like he was painting corners with quality stuff there.
   135. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:08 PM (#4133584)
Now Rodney will come in and get the save by throwing pitches 6 inches off the strike zone.
   136. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4133587)
Do not like the Sean Rodgriguez - Morales matchup.
   137. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4133588)
Seriously?
   138. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4133589)
For ####'s sake. Another ####### balk?
   139. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4133590)
What. The. ####. Is. Going.On. Here.
   140. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Fielder Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4133592)
Even the Rays announcers are calling that balk "ticky-tac".
   141. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:19 PM (#4133593)
Squeeze incoming
   142. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:19 PM (#4133594)
Surprised he was swinging away.
   143. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:20 PM (#4133595)
That looked painful.
   144. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Fielder Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4133597)
Apparently more painful than we thought.
   145. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4133598)
What the hell? Did he go into shock?
   146. plink Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4133600)
I thought initially it hit the bat... I sure hope to hell that that noise came from the bat and not from Rhymes' arm.
   147. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4133602)
It came from Rhymes' arm.
   148. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Fielder Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4133604)
Hell of a welt.
   149. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:28 PM (#4133605)
I'd be surprised if that's not a fracture with the noise from that and from him going into shock and/or fainting from the pain.
   150. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Fielder Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4133606)
Bob Davidson is at 3rd and none of the balks were called by him.
   151. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4133607)
Reddick just caught a ####### shot from Hamilton in CF up against the wall. Route was a bit circuitous, but it was a nice play.
   152. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:30 PM (#4133608)
Striking out Keppinger is an achievement. He's one of the toughest in MLB to K.
   153. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Fielder Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:31 PM (#4133609)
First K on a swing all season, according to the Rays announcers.
   154. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:36 PM (#4133610)
Reddick just caught a ####### shot from Hamilton in CF up against the wall. Route was a bit circuitous, but it was a nice play.

Just the other day I watched Reddick take the worst route possible on a ball that flew by him to the wall for an XBH when it should have been easily caught.
   155. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:37 PM (#4133611)
Middlebrooks takes a lot of called third strikes for someone who doesn't reall walk much.
   156. Dan Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:38 PM (#4133612)
In CF or RF, Chip? He's looked much better in RF than CF from what I have seen.
   157. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:39 PM (#4133613)
Ross getting a hit in that situation was unexpected. Maddon's positioning fails him.
   158. Chip Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:40 PM (#4133614)
In CF.
   159. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 16, 2012 at 10:40 PM (#4133616)
Tough loss but Clay looked OK
