   1. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:04 PM (#4137171)
The Red Sox outfield tonight is Nava-Byrd-Lin. Crikey.
   2. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:08 PM (#4137178)
Pedroia continues to slump badly, at the worst possible time.
   3. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4137193)
Well, if this game lasts six or seven hours, it doesn't seem it will be on the starting pitchers.
   4. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:23 PM (#4137200)
Sucky Tommy Hunter has used 18 pitches to get through 2 IP. Way to work him, O.
   5. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:27 PM (#4137206)
Just put the game on - how has Buchholz looked?
   6. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4137213)
Nuts. I was hoping for some "ugh, look at this outfield"-related irony.
   7. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4137217)
What the #### are you swinging at on the 1-1 Pedey?
   8. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4137230)
Buchholz goes in the stretch and immediately starts to lose the zone.
   9. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:52 PM (#4137232)
THROW STRIKES, MOTHERFüCKER
   10. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:53 PM (#4137234)
THEY'RE TRYING TO GIVE A FREE OUT.
   11. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:54 PM (#4137236)
Wow. I don't understand how that happens when they have a very good idea that he's going to bunt.
   12. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:54 PM (#4137237)
Or not. sheesh.
   13. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4137239)
Middlebrooks looked WAY too tentative charging the bunt there.
   14. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4137240)
Cue 0-2 magic for Sox opponent.
   15. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4137241)
So much for this guy's pitchers' strike zone.
   16. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4137242)
And now he's squeezed on the 0-2, which was a perfect pitch.
   17. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4137245)
Even if I had the talent, I don't think I could ever be a pitcher. How can you possibly deal with doing your job perfectly (that 0-2 pitch) and getting nothing in return?
   18. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4137247)
For crying out loud... Maybe Buchholz needs to do the Joe Kerrigan "ignore the baserunners and just pitch from the windup" thing.
   19. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4137248)
0-2 to 3-2. Great.
   20. Textbook Editor Posted: May 21, 2012 at 07:59 PM (#4137251)
Maybe Buchholz needs to do the Joe Kerrigan "ignore the baserunners and just pitch from the windup" thing.

Don't some pitchers go back to the windup with the bases loaded?
   21. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:00 PM (#4137252)
Another corner pitch not called.
   22. Textbook Editor Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:00 PM (#4137253)
Bring on the robotic umps. In fact, I can't wait for the day--I firmly believe it will happen in my lifetime (i.e. ~next 40 years).
   23. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:01 PM (#4137254)
Another ####### infield single. Jesus god damn ####### Christ.
   24. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:01 PM (#4137255)
Unfrigginreal.
   25. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:02 PM (#4137256)
#### morning
   26. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:02 PM (#4137257)
jesus christ
   27. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:02 PM (#4137258)
Now the balls-in-play gods decide to punish him.
   28. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:04 PM (#4137259)
Clearly, Clay figures it's safe to go back to sucking now that Matsuzaka's rehab clock has been reset.
   29. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:04 PM (#4137260)
He does this all the time with the mound problems. Home, away, doesn't matter, there's always something wrong with the mound.
   30. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:05 PM (#4137263)
Is there any question that Jones is hitting a GS here?
   31. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:05 PM (#4137264)
Hooray, outs!
   32. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:05 PM (#4137266)
Outs! Thank the maker!
   33. Mattbert Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:07 PM (#4137269)
You have to be able to throw strikes at this level. You just have to.
   34. Textbook Editor Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:08 PM (#4137270)
Well, so much for the warm fuzzies.
   35. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4137272)
Four runs, and only the lead off first pitch single by Betemit leaves the infield.

I question that pitch selection, too. Betemit has never seen him before, can't hit breaking stuff, and you groove a fastball to him? Dumb. Which maybe Clay was thinking, given how he unravelled after that.
   36. DKDC Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:10 PM (#4137274)
Not cashing in there is really going to hurt later in the game.
   37. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:12 PM (#4137276)
####.
   38. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:12 PM (#4137278)
Of course that happens on the next pitch after the caught stealing. Of course it does.q
   39. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:13 PM (#4137279)
Salty's red hot, is not in a pitcher's count, and Middlebrooks is trying to steal? I don't understand.
   40. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:16 PM (#4137280)
Men on base, two outs, close game. And these two are gassing about what Orsillo ate on Amtrak yesterday.
   41. DKDC Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:18 PM (#4137282)
Now watch Buchholz bounce back and retire 12 in a row. Seems to happen every time they have a guy on the ropes.
   42. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:21 PM (#4137283)
Or not.
   43. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4137287)
Lin is looking eager, to say the least.
   44. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4137298)
Papi!
   45. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4137299)
Wow. Ortiz got every last bit of that pitch.
   46. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4137300)
Man, he hit the crap out of that.
   47. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:42 PM (#4137301)
That was a meatball. Ortiz knew what to do with it.
   48. Mattbert Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:43 PM (#4137302)
Ortizzle, fo shizzle.
   49. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:46 PM (#4137307)
One swing and it's 6-5. It could happen.
   50. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4137308)
The RF didn't move on Ortiz' HR.
   51. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4137309)
Good AB by Salty here.
   52. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4137311)
You know what, I'll take the "sac bunt".
   53. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4137312)
Hunter fooling no one.
   54. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4137315)
Middlebrooks draws the balk!
   55. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4137317)
That happens to other teams too now?
   56. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4137319)
The balk... The most exciting play in baseball.
   57. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 08:57 PM (#4137322)
Been watching this and the Celtics turnaround at the same time - then dealing with my annoying Dad - fun times

   58. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:02 PM (#4137328)
I can't say I'm feeling good about Buzhholz after that walk.
   59. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:02 PM (#4137330)
Pull him.
   60. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:03 PM (#4137331)
PULL HIM PULL HIM PULL HIM PULL HIM PULL HIM
   61. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:04 PM (#4137334)
There is no real enjoyment watching Clay pitch these days - none
   62. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4137336)
Shouldn't care, but glad Clay won't get a win for this.
   63. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4137337)
His last start was enjoyable after the first inning.
   64. DKDC Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4137341)
Why is Gregg pitching in a tie game?
   65. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4137342)
:) !
   66. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:14 PM (#4137343)
Pedroia happy to see an even crappier pitcher in.
   67. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:15 PM (#4137344)
Aviles didn't get a good read on that. He could've scored easily if he didn't expect it to be caught, I'd think.
   68. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:15 PM (#4137345)
Punish the IBB please.
   69. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:16 PM (#4137347)
Gonzalez will either walk or ground into a double play.
   70. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:17 PM (#4137349)
I guess that works.
   71. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:18 PM (#4137350)
I still miss the version of Gonzalez would would've driven that out of the park instead of not to the warning track, but at least it's a run.
   72. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:20 PM (#4137352)
Insurance. Nice.
   73. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:20 PM (#4137353)
Middlebrooks hot again. They definitely need to keep him and stuck someone in the OF for the enxt month.
   74. Dan Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4137357)
Yankees are trailing 5-0 vs KC at home.
   75. DKDC Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4137359)
I'm not sure why Buck decided to just surrender this one. He must be feeling good about taking the other two in this series.

I'm not.
   76. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4137366)
More strike zone squeezing.
   77. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4137368)
Strike 4!
   78. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4137370)
Dennis and Callahan talking to Stephen A. Smith. It's hard to come up with a more irritating radio broadcast.
   79. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4137373)
Very nice work from Miller. And BV let's him go multi-inning again.
   80. DKDC Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4137374)
I don't think the Os could get a hit off Dennis Miller right now.
   81. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4137377)
Happy first hit, Lin Che-hsuan!
   82. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4137379)
Congrats to Lin.
   83. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4137381)
Love seeing a players first hit live
   84. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4137382)
Dennis and Callahan talking to Stephen A. Smith. It's hard to come up with a more irritating radio broadcast.

My god that guy carries on
   85. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4137384)
Then again - so do I...
   86. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4137385)
Lin's got some wheels. 8-5!
   87. DKDC Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4137388)
What's the point of bringing in a different surrender pitcher?

He should've left Gregg out there until his arm fell off.
   88. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4137390)
STOP THE EXCITEMENT!!!
   89. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4137391)
Horrible hanger to Jones.
   90. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4137395)
Hill can't keep the ball down. That hit was inevitable. Horrible pitches.
   91. DKDC Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4137396)
Rich Hill, slump buster!
   92. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4137397)
That was inevitable - need a double play here as much as I need a hug
   93. Chip Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4137400)
First pitch to Davis might be the first decent curve he's thrown yet.
   94. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4137401)
You know, I'm kind of surprised the media hasn't built a control-freak narrative around these Bobby Valentine pep-talks yet.
   95. DKDC Posted: May 21, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4137405)
Well, Buck's master plan to lure Rich Hill into the game was a stroke of genius.

Need to cash in here.
   96. Textbook Editor Posted: May 21, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4137406)
Padilla and Aceves for the 3rd straight game--what could go wrong?
   97. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4137407)
C'Mon - one more freaking out
   98. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4137408)
In this inning obviously

   99. Jay Seaver Posted: May 21, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4137409)
Please, do not allow Andino to come up with the bases loaded. No good can come of that.

...

Thank you
   100. Phil Coorey. Posted: May 21, 2012 at 10:05 PM (#4137410)
Huge - need a shitload of insurance though
