Lineup du jour;

1. Scott Podsednik, LF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Adrian Gonzalez, RF
4. David Ortiz, 1B
5. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
6. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
7. Ryan Sweeney, CF
8. Mike Aviles, SS
9. Josh Beckett, SP
   2. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 05:34 PM (#4154157)
Should've gone whole hog and stuck Youkilis in LF to get WMB into the lineup too.
   3. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:08 PM (#4154202)
NESN production is so ######. The voices are like 1/3 the volume of the SFX
   4. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:13 PM (#4154204)
Morrow leaving the game against the Nats after just one hitter with an injury.
   5. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4154206)
Squander opportunity!
   6. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4154207)
Second 3-0 count for Gozo in two days. Can he walk? Will he walk?
   7. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4154208)
It's nice that this camera angle is straight on from CF, but the angle seems too low. The pitcher obscures the view of the plate.
   8. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:18 PM (#4154209)
Second 3-0 count for Gozo in two days. Can he walk? Will he walk?

Nope!
   9. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:18 PM (#4154211)
Jays already trailing after 2 hitters.
   10. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:19 PM (#4154212)
No, he can't.
   11. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:19 PM (#4154213)
Adrian blows.
   12. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4154214)
He can't hit a ####### fastball.
   13. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:22 PM (#4154216)
There was that period in Papi's career when it looked like he would never hit a fastball again. Maybe there's irrational hope that Gonzalez can rediscover his ability in the same way.

Or his shoulder's shot and his career is cooked.
   14. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4154218)
Now that, that's some impressive squandering. Launched as usual by Adriian.
   15. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4154219)
I suspect it's a similar situation to what Ortiz went through but it's concerning that he's going through that kind of a decline in the first year of his 7 year contract...
   16. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:28 PM (#4154220)
Triple.
   17. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:29 PM (#4154221)
So much for 0-2 and 1-2 count leverage.

   18. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:31 PM (#4154224)
Can't score after putting 2 on with no outs. Now down 1-0 after facing 2 hitters of theirs. Quite a team we have here.
   19. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:34 PM (#4154226)
This team just isn't good.
   20. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:38 PM (#4154228)
Did he get a single swing and miss?
   21. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:44 PM (#4154229)
Sweeney was a statue. That was amazing how he failed to react.
   22. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:44 PM (#4154230)
Hahaha find more ways to suck, ########.
   23. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4154231)
I think we're getting to the point that selling has to be a major consideration.
   24. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4154232)
Marlins had been playing like crap coming into this series, too. Then again, the Red Sox had been playing well before the last homestand, and look where that got them.

   25. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4154235)
0-2 count with 2 outs, and Beckett throws a fat one for an RBI ingle.
   26. Jay Seaver Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4154236)
Just got in and sat down. That thing in center field is amazing.
   27. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 07:59 PM (#4154238)
I'm sure Beckett will give them a shot at showing off its function sooner or later tonight.
   28. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:05 PM (#4154241)
On the bright side, Dustin Pedroia still can't hit.
   29. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:36 PM (#4154252)
Sox have only had one baserunner since Podsednik and Pedroia singled and walked to start the game. And that baserunner was picked off first. Just pathetic.
   30. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:43 PM (#4154254)
This team is the definition of pathetic.
   31. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:44 PM (#4154255)
Finally, a leadoff hitter reaches. Unfortunately, Pedroia is up, and buried in an 0-2 count.
   32. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:44 PM (#4154258)
Wow, a Dustin Pedroia line drive. It was almost like he was hitting against a Red Sox starter in that count!
   33. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4154260)
When was the last time Gonzalez even looked like he was controlling an AB, rather than being controlled? Another 0-2 hole (now 1-2). Too much to expect results similar to Pedroia, right?
   34. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4154261)
Pedroia got a hit!??!?!
   35. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4154262)
I guess I'm quite behind.
   36. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4154263)
In a reverse of the first inning, when Adrian worked himself from 3-0 into 3-2, he's gone from 0-2 to 3-2.

Warning track power! A run!
   37. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:52 PM (#4154265)
Gonzalez looks like utter shite. So easily overpowered.
   38. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4154266)
Ortiz with another just-missed-it towering fly to medium depth CF.
   39. Jay Seaver Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4154274)
Is Nick Punto really an upgrade over Beckett? I mean, Josh has some power.
   40. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:23 PM (#4154277)
You can't stop Scott Podsednik, you can only hope to contain him.
   41. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:26 PM (#4154281)
Pedroia returns to weak contact mode.
   42. Jay Seaver Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:29 PM (#4154283)
Well, it's at least worth seeing what Melancon 2.0 has.
   43. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:29 PM (#4154284)
When your entire starting outfield and entire backup outfield are hurt you kind of need your stars to get the job done. Pedroia and Gonzalez are KILLING this team right now.
   44. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4154285)
Melancon got a way with a hanging breaking ball there. And everything so far has been looked to be in the middle of the plate.
   45. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4154286)
That was a very nice play to get Hanley, after a very odd swing that generated even weaker contact than Dustin Pedroia currently generates in a typical AB.
   46. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:33 PM (#4154288)
David Ortiz continues to show he's a more than competent first baseman. This is important given how much our current regular first baseman sucks.
   47. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4154291)
Who's suck can suck more? The Red Sox or Heath Bell's?
   48. Jay Seaver Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4154292)
Even Adrian could not avoid that walk.
   49. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4154293)
Wow!
   50. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4154294)
ADRIAN GONZALEZ HAS DRAWN A WALK.

I REPEAT, ADRIAN GONZALEZ HAS DRAWN A WALK.
   51. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:38 PM (#4154296)
When your entire starting outfield and entire backup outfield are hurt you kind of need your stars to get the job done.

How many more outfielders would they need to lose before pulling the trigger on a Soriano deal?
   52. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:39 PM (#4154297)
How many more outfielders would they need to lose before pulling the trigger on a Soriano deal?

I think they're close. Unfortunately for the Cubs according to the Boston Globe Jason Repko has started his rehab assignment.
   53. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4154298)
How do you take that pitch Papi? Terrible location that deserved to be crushed.
   54. Jay Seaver Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4154299)
Would people getting hurt for a second time add to that tally?

THE HELL, ADRIAN?
   55. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4154300)
Boneheaded lack of baserunning by Gonzalez on that wild pitch, the equal of Sweeney getting picked off.
   56. Dan Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4154301)
Let's take more high changeups for strikes.
   57. Jay Seaver Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4154302)
Robot umpires now!

(Won't solve the team's problems, but will help my blood pressure)
   58. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4154303)
How about fastballs right in the happy zone, like the one Youkilis just took on the 1-1?
   59. Chip Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:46 PM (#4154304)
What is Ron Kulpa doing? Since when do umpires get to stand on the edge of the dugout and scream at players after a game is over?
   60. Jay Seaver Posted: June 11, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4154305)
Looks like their exit is right there, but, yeah, not very authoritative and mature abritrator-ish behavior.
   61. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4155075)
So is this where we are?

Buehrle threw Pedroia two hanging curves. The brokenhanded one weakly fouled off the first, missed entirely the second to K.
   62. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4155086)
Our lead off guy hits a lIne drive right at an outfielder. Their lead off guy hits a groundball - admittedly, hard - that goes for a triple. So it goes for this team right now.
   63. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:25 PM (#4155087)
Great comeback by Clay to K the side after the Reyes triple.
   64. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:37 PM (#4155093)
Chip, I would appreciate it if you would do your 'tool on Orsillo' bit tonight.

Thanks,

D
   65. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4155096)
That was a bad pitch.
   66. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4155108)
That was some stupid baserunning.
   67. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4155109)
Thanks Jose!
   68. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4155110)
Reyes knew he would have gotten the worse of a collision with Shoppach.
   69. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 07:59 PM (#4155113)
So glad we didn't lose Pedroia to the DL for 15 days. He's doing so much for the team at the plate instead.
   70. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:00 PM (#4155114)
It's amazing how quickly they get bored of baseball.
   71. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:01 PM (#4155116)
Scoreless pitching duels bore Don & Jerry.
   72. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:03 PM (#4155119)
Coke, Darren.
   73. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:07 PM (#4155121)
I could definitely put up with more El Tiante talk from these two, on the other hand. With bonus Boomer Scott mention!
   74. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:08 PM (#4155122)
My mom loved Boomer. She just liked that we all said Boomer when he came up.
   75. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4155123)
She also loved Chico Walker because when we went to see him at AA, everyone went crazy chanting "Chico, Chico, Chico!"
   76. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4155124)
I wonder if Pedroia would have George Brett numbers if he only played when healthy.
   77. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4155125)
What's up with these Ks for Buchholz? This is crazy.
   78. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:14 PM (#4155126)
I have to say, I greatly prefer Jenny Dell to her Miami counterpart.
   79. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:15 PM (#4155127)
another walk!
   80. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:25 PM (#4155132)
Clay's first BB, and it's John ####### Buck?
   81. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:31 PM (#4155136)
78...Jenny Dell is Cartman's imbecile sister.
   82. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4155138)
Jesus Pedroia. Sit. Now.
   83. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4155142)
Marlins will now convert where the Sox failed to.
   84. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:48 PM (#4155146)
Orsillo: "Some are watching the game and some clearly don't care."

Yeah, Don, we know.
   85. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4155149)
Uh, Clay Buchholz. Wow.
   86. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:52 PM (#4155152)
Amazing what 15 scoreless innings will do for your ERA. Buc is down to 5.33.

Do you have to be about 20 to be a marketing director?
   87. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:54 PM (#4155154)
So glad we go that Jenny Clevelander update, because as the club's manager all but told us, baseball is boring.
   88. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:58 PM (#4155155)
So...Shoppach has been a pretty good pickup.
   89. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 08:58 PM (#4155156)
This series is really Don, Jerry, and Jenny's audition to become the Marlins broadcast team. Bored by baseball announcers for a bored by baseball audience.

And Jerry tries to use the rally to justify the Clevelander interlude.
   90. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:00 PM (#4155157)
Dumb play.
   91. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4155158)
Aviles rewarded by Hanley for terrible baserunning.
   92. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4155159)
Don't you sorta have to hit Ortiz here?
   93. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:02 PM (#4155161)
How stupid was the Clevelander? I mean, it's like a gentleman's club or something.
   94. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:03 PM (#4155163)
Clay makes better contact than Pedroia has all night.
   95. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:06 PM (#4155167)
I was just looking at Clay's numbers and thinking that the HRs were only the really bad one.
   96. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:06 PM (#4155168)
Way to justify your manager's faith.
   97. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:07 PM (#4155169)
Should have hit for him.
   98. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4155170)
Did Coghlan try to slap that out?
   99. Chip Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4155171)
That said, his stuff continues to look awesome from this camera angle. Incredible tail on the fastball to get that last K.
   100. Darren Posted: June 12, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4155172)
Of course not, he's not some kind of unprofessional jerk!
