So a day game on Friday then night games Saturday and Sunday. That's pretty unusual.

Oh, and I just want to add that I drive an Acrua dammit. They are fine automobiles!
   2. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:24 PM (#4157911)
Honda with a higher price tag.
   3. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:25 PM (#4157912)
Good lord the grass looks awful. They couldn't patch it up better than that?
   4. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:27 PM (#4157915)
Hanging splitter in the middle of the plate, and Gonzalez can only flail helplessly at it.
   5. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:28 PM (#4157916)
I'd love to see a foot race between Ortiz and Soriano.
   6. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:29 PM (#4157917)
Adrian is just terrible.
   7. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:30 PM (#4157918)
SQUANDER!
   8. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:34 PM (#4157922)
Someone needs to tell the NESN technical producer that their audio is out of sync with the video.
   9. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4157924)
I fear saying it, but Daisuke actually looks pretty good.
   10. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:40 PM (#4157925)
Someone needs to tell the NESN technical producer that their audio is out of sync with the video.

Weird. It's fine on MLB.tv.
   11. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:45 PM (#4157932)
He's all over the place, but at least his fastball seems to have good velocity and movement. Just hit 94 to LaHair.
   12. Gamingboy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:46 PM (#4157935)
Alright, I've got nothing better to do right now. Amuse me, Red Sox and Cubs. Amuse me.
   13. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:46 PM (#4157936)
Got kinda squeezed against LaHair, but that's no excuse for just firing wildly and walking him.
   14. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:47 PM (#4157938)
How the #### does Podsednik not catch that?
   15. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:47 PM (#4157939)
Clevenger has been of the better surprises of this season.
   16. plink Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:48 PM (#4157942)
Yuck. The 1-2 to LaHair should have struck him out, and Podsednik had no reason not to catch that.
   17. plink Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:48 PM (#4157944)
I want Nava back.
   18. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:49 PM (#4157945)
If Podsednik can't catch that ball he has no business playing. He's certainly not playing for his bat.
   19. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:49 PM (#4157946)
Really. Podsednik's speed is completely useless if he can't read a ball off the bat or take a decent route to it. That ball was up in the air forever.
   20. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:50 PM (#4157947)
The NESN crew doesn't really sound interested in hiding their frustrating about Dice-K's lack of command.

That has to be the first time the Cubs have loaded the bases on walks this season.
   21. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:51 PM (#4157948)
He's certainly not playing for his bat.

Unfortunately, on this team his bat is actually the only thing he's earning playing time with.
   22. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:51 PM (#4157949)
I believe Harvey has opined many times about Podsednik's relative awfulness in the outfield given his speed.
   23. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 02:53 PM (#4157953)
The better Dempter pitches, the more the haul for him will be. I hope the hell they are looking for a 3B prospect.
   24. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:04 PM (#4157973)
OF defense! Woo!
   25. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:04 PM (#4157974)
Jesus Christ.

Remy's right, Gonzalez's positioning was really horrible for having the pitcher at the plate.
   26. plink Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:04 PM (#4157975)
Oh, for ####'s sake.
   27. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:04 PM (#4157976)
That is what you get when you play a 1B in the outfield.
   28. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:04 PM (#4157978)
Why the #### didn't that have Gonzalez shaded toward the line there with a pitcher up? He was playing way too far towards the gap for a pitcher batting.
   29. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:05 PM (#4157979)
That is what you get when you play a 1B in the outfield.

He would've been fine if they didn't have him positioned so poorly.
   30. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:07 PM (#4157985)
Three BBs and a hit batsmen in 11 batters faced. Dice-K has fully recovered to pre-surgery abilities.
   31. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:09 PM (#4157987)
Ironically, if Gonalez had been at first, he might have gotten DeJesus' single.
   32. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:09 PM (#4157988)
Soriano goes deep here.
   33. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:12 PM (#4157995)
Soriano goes deep here.

Soriano's been raking for a month. If his career is any indication, he's due to resume uselessness at the plate for a while.
   34. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:13 PM (#4157997)
Don't jinx it Walks. I read somewhere the Blue Jays were scouting him.
   35. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:13 PM (#4157998)
Yeah, Soriano looks like the only guy Daisuke is fooling out there.
   36. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:14 PM (#4157999)
I thought the hot story of the moment was that the O's were scouting him.
   37. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:14 PM (#4158000)
I assume the Blue Jays were scouting LaHair or DeJesus if they were watching the Cubs. Or even Dempster/Garza. They need SP, LF, and a 1B or DH.
   38. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:16 PM (#4158002)
I thought the hot story of the moment was that the O's were scouting him.

Pay no attention to McCoy.
   39. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:17 PM (#4158006)
Gonzalez continues hacking at the first pitch.
   40. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:18 PM (#4158009)
Hey Jerry, do you really have no shame is openly hitting on Jenny Dell during games? #askjerry
   41. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:18 PM (#4158011)
Soriano can DH. And I suspect he could play 1B too. The Cubs will probably pay over $40 million of the $49 left on his contract.
   42. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:18 PM (#4158014)
And chases out of the zone on 2-1.

And strikes out on another hanger way up and out of the zone.

He's getting worse, which shouldn't be possible.
   43. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:19 PM (#4158015)
I haven't paid much attention: What's with Gonzalez. Analysis more detailed that "he sucks," would be much appreciated. That's a pretty low OBP for him.
   44. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:22 PM (#4158020)
Adrian Gonzalez was late on and fouled back a hanging 83 MPH slider or splitter or something in that AB. Dude can't hit ####. If his shoulder ISN'T a problem, what else explains this?
   45. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:22 PM (#4158022)
His power's gone, especially to the opposite field - it disappeared in the second half of last year, and hasn't returned - and he's lost control of the strike zone. The two walks he drew in the Marlins series were the first in more than 100 PAs.
   46. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:24 PM (#4158032)
I haven't paid much attention: What's with Gonzalez. Analysis more detailed that "he sucks," would be much appreciated. That's a pretty low OBP for him.

He's just completely ###### up. I don't know if his shoulder is bothering him and he doesn't want to speak up, or if he's just not seeing the ball, or what. There's really no explanation for it. But he's no longer patient at the plate, has no ability to drive the ball, and is a complete non-threat.
   47. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:26 PM (#4158037)
At this point the Red Sox are basically paying $23M per year for Casey Kotchman.
   48. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:27 PM (#4158040)
This thread on Sons of Sam Horn, a Sox fan blog, goes into the analysis in some depth, with spray charts and PitchFX heat maps of how his hot zones have changed. It's pretty frightening.
   49. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:27 PM (#4158041)
There is no excuse for not throwing out Ortiz on a groundball.
   50. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:28 PM (#4158042)
Castro...wow.
   51. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:31 PM (#4158051)
Of course that stays in the park.
   52. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:32 PM (#4158052)
So much for the offense that put up ten runs on Wednesday.
   53. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:36 PM (#4158057)
Dempster is going for the cycle.
   54. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:39 PM (#4158063)
Dempster is going for the cycle.

Against Dice-K, all is possible.
   55. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:45 PM (#4158071)
Matsuzaka also apparently awful at bunting.
   56. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:46 PM (#4158073)
Nice base running, Mike.
   57. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:47 PM (#4158074)
This team is bad at everything. I hope they feel as bad as they make me feel watching them.
   58. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 03:51 PM (#4158078)
This is what we're reduced to finding solace in: Pedroia making hard contact to the outfield on an out.
   59. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:01 PM (#4158101)
This team is bad at everything. I hope they feel as bad as they make me feel watching them.

This actually applies to both teams playing.
   60. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:02 PM (#4158104)
You ####### suck, Adrian. Swinging at a ball up by your ####### neck and off the plate?
   61. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:03 PM (#4158106)
GONZALEZ TO RIGHT FIELD!!!... and DeJesus makes the grab.

Are you ####### for real, Orsillo?
   62. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:05 PM (#4158107)
And Gonzalez hits a ball hard to the outfield! Woo hoo! Cheer like we did for Pedroia's out!
   63. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:05 PM (#4158109)
Remy sounds so bitter about everything related to Wrigley and its occupants.
   64. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:06 PM (#4158110)
Remy is bitter about everything. He is a miserable human being.
   65. plink Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:07 PM (#4158111)
To be fair, the Sox are hitting the ball really hard, just not in the right places.
   66. plink Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:08 PM (#4158115)
Wait -- was Salty's hit as obviously fair as my low-res feed (with no sound) made it appear?
   67. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:09 PM (#4158116)
Alfonso is already starting to cool off.

Batting .294/.400/.412 in his last 5 games with 2 of the 3 walks being intentional.
   68. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:10 PM (#4158119)
I think it was foul, but NESN's camera angles were all terrible.
   69. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:11 PM (#4158120)
The Red Sox will score at least 4 runs over the next 3 innings. I Mark Grace it.
   70. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:12 PM (#4158124)
Yeah, I don't feel comfortable about this lead at all, especially if our Casey Colemans get involved.
   71. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:13 PM (#4158125)
Another "one bad inning" start for Dice.
   72. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:13 PM (#4158126)
This is looking like a replay of yesterday. Cubs have something going the first couple of innings and then go dormant nearly the rest of the way.
   73. SouthSideRyan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:15 PM (#4158131)
[69]You annoying moron it?
   74. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:15 PM (#4158133)
Also, it's usually the Top of the 7th at Wrigley where the wheels come off, if they do at all.
   75. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:16 PM (#4158135)
Another "one bad inning" start for Dice.

Even the bad inning should've ended with no runs scoring with a competent glove in LF.
   76. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:16 PM (#4158136)
Don't worry, Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Youkilis, Mike Sweeney, and Jerrod Saltalamacchia are all capable of killing any potential rallies.
   77. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:16 PM (#4158140)
Yeah, I don't feel comfortable about this lead at all, especially if our Casey Colemans get involved.

Dempster is on pace to go 8 innings, if not 9. Doesn't seem like Cubs middle relief will have a shot at blowing this.
   78. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:19 PM (#4158146)
Walking Nick Punto on 4 pitches? Dempster's trade value just nosedived.
   79. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:22 PM (#4158155)
The wheels on the bus . . .
   80. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:24 PM (#4158157)
Orsillo has been channeling Chip Caray today with the false calls.
   81. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:24 PM (#4158158)
###### again by the BIP gods.
   82. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:26 PM (#4158161)
I think that will probably be it for Dempster. 100+ pitches and do up first in the 8th.
   83. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:26 PM (#4158163)
7th
   84. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:26 PM (#4158164)
There is not one pitcher in the Cubs bullpen. Not one.
   85. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:27 PM (#4158165)
Hell, they could have had Dempster strike out swinging to start the 7th.
   86. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:28 PM (#4158166)
Really a brilliant play all around - except by the runner. The tape of that should be used as the #1 instructional video on the stupidity of the slide into first.
   87. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:29 PM (#4158167)
Castro has been pretty lousy lately. That OBP is getting dangerously close to dipping below .300.
   88. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:30 PM (#4158168)
There is not one pitcher in the Cubs bullpen. Not one.

I was going to say that Russell has been pretty good against lefties this year but he's gotten beaten up recently against them as well. .293/.474 against lefties is not going to cut it as a LOOGY.
   89. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:33 PM (#4158175)
LOL Gonzalez
   90. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:33 PM (#4158177)
God am I sick of watching pathetic three-pitch-and-an-out Adrian Gonzalez ABs.
   91. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:35 PM (#4158180)
Is it too late to get Rizzo back for Gonzalez?
   92. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:36 PM (#4158184)
Umm, Jenny Dell and Jeeny Dell's producer: the R.A. Dickey appeal has already been denied. Your gross incompetence continues to embarrass you.
   93. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:41 PM (#4158194)
Dear God, Sveum is going to use Marmol in the 9th.
   94. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:42 PM (#4158195)
Dear God, Sveum is going to use Marmol in the 9th.

He'll be facing Saltalamacchia, who will chase sliders down in and, Sweeney who has no power, and Aviles who will chases sliders down and away. Pretty good matchups for him, honestly.
   95. McCoy Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:42 PM (#4158196)
I was going to say that I still wasn't convinced that a 3 run lead would hold but now that I know that it will be Marmol in the 9th I just about know that it isn't enough.
   96. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:42 PM (#4158197)
Hopefully he's got someone else warming up early on, since Marmol is no longer the closer and thus, these aren't "his games to lose."
   97. Chip Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:43 PM (#4158200)
Also, Melancon is quite likely to gift the Cubs some insurance here.
   98. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:44 PM (#4158201)
Melancon, the reliever who can't get swinging strikes but who Cherington acquired for the mere price of the SS with the most homers in MLB.
   99. SteveM. Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:45 PM (#4158206)
Why were the Red Sox in such a hurry to dump both Scurato and Lowrie?
   100. Dan Posted: June 15, 2012 at 04:46 PM (#4158208)
Dumping Scutaro was smart, he's old and his defense at SS wasn't really too hot anymore. Dumping Lowrie was stupid and short-sighted.
