That's what Keith Moreland said on the Cubs' radio broadcast. (Actually, he suggested assigning a "team error," but not giving it to the outfielder.)
Called it. ####### Lester.
I really am sick of Lester
We would, if we thought that this meant that the Cubs might actually win.
Oh sure--just appreciate that this is a truly awful Cub team (with, particularly, a truly awful bullpen). Even if they score the two more unanswered runs they need to take the lead (and as noted, a homer's more a weekly thing for the Cubs than a daily thing), their chances of giving it back are high. I was actually a little shocked they didn't blow it yesterday.
Agreed.
That's how I see him as well. Which makes him a bona fide starting candidate on a bad team whose incumbent third baseman is Ian Stewart.
I wouldn't be shocked to see him have a decent year or two as an every day player--he's hit for good averages with mid-range power and pretty fair walk totals in the minors--and god knows he'll never have a better opportunity to prove it than he's got now.
Still sweating up a storm
EDIT: Moreland now says he thinks it looks like it hit the ground, but acknowledges that it's inconclusive even on super-slo-mo.
Which points up one advantage, if the only one, the Cubs have on the White Sox: their announcers, while partisan, are not completely insufferable homers.
This is correct (IMHO). You could see the ball bounce, but on replay it looks like what it was bouncing off of was the webbing of the glove. Very tough call and it looks like they got it right.
The Cubs scoring 4 runs in a game is a BIG IF.
Well, yes, but they've already got 3 of 'em. I'm as down on this year's version of the Cubs as anyone, but 1 run with the wind blowing out's not exactly hitting the Mega Millions.
It is for the Cubs.
