Big block by Saltalamacchia there

Valentine makes Tito look like Casey Stengel. What the ####???? Not brining in Bard for the ninth so you can build the confidence of your 'closer'??? Go #### your self valentine win or lose.

I call him all kinds of things that you probably can't say in your livingroom.

Onward to October.

I forget; are there regular season games that spill into October this season?
   225. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:21 PM (#4114423)
This save situation is Papelbon-ish.

About 75% of the time.

Also, CAFARDO IS A MORON.
   231. Answer Guy Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:23 PM (#4114429)

Against people who aren't Red Sox relievers? Sure.

   238. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:24 PM (#4114437)
I'd like to take credit with my Cafardo bashing. I really came through in the clutch.

Holy #### - they won?!
   240. Steve Balboni's Personal Trainer Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:25 PM (#4114439)
The first intelligent thing Cafardo said on TV tonight: Using Aceves as a three-out closer is not a great use of what Aceves appears to be good at. I don't think of him as a guy that will get you three big outs when you need them. He's really good at giving you two or three innings out of the pen three times a week.

Did anybody see Jenny Dell? Is she all that?
   241. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:25 PM (#4114440)

A) Cafardo is a moron.
2) Jenny Dell is all that and a bag of chips.

It's as simple as putting Bard back in there, and everything else falls into place!

Aren't you forgetting a little Cafardo-bashing? I really trash-talked the #### out of this team tonight. I've been super-positive about them so far. Tonight, when I give in to the hate a little, they win!
   245. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:27 PM (#4114445)
Jenny Dell is the Jed Lowrie of the broadcast team. Some of us think she is a big step down from Heidi Watney and everyone else is wrong.
   246. Dale Sams Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:28 PM (#4114446)
Apparently I'm alone in how jaw-droppingly stupid I think it is (How firable) to take out your best reliever after 2/3 of an inning and bring in a guy who twice in a 14 game season has given up 3 runs without getting an out. Im stunned. I actually would consider wanting the Sox to lose to get that bozo Valentine out of there.
   247. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:28 PM (#4114447)
Pie hole did an outstanding job tonight.

I'm not with you. They've determined that Aceves is good enough to be their closer--a few games should not change that generally. Bard is not perfect, either.
   249. Jay Seaver Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:31 PM (#4114451)
Eck is tremendously excited on the post-game show. Not that that's unusual, but happy-excited is good to hear.
   250. Darren Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:32 PM (#4114452)
If you like Dell better, you've got sort of a one-track mind, I'd guess.
   251. Steve Balboni's Personal Trainer Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:36 PM (#4114454)
Eck is awesome - he talks about home runs as "taking it to the bridge", which I like. He knows talking about baseball is supposed to be fun, and he is fun, and unafraid to talk a little trash. He's got swagger, but he backs it up.

I just got a look at Jenny Dell interviewing Cody Ross in the post game. My first impression: if you think Jenny is better-looking than Heidi, you definitely value, um, one set of assets over all others.
   252. Dale Sams Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:36 PM (#4114455)
Bard doesn't have to be perfect. He has to be better than Aceves. He was pulled from the rotation to pitch high-leverage innings. Bringing him in was the right idea. But not letting him pitch another high-leverage inning is ####### stupid as hell.

And Aceves almost blew it again.
   253. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:38 PM (#4114457)

He was Papelbon-esque. I can live with that.

I don't think Papelbon has ever given up 3 runs without getting an out. He's not Papelbonesque, you guys are ####### high.
   256. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:39 PM (#4114461)

Tonight was EXACTLY how Papelbon saves went. Don't be revisionist. Papelbon never got easy saves and he himself even admitted it.
   257. Darren Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:41 PM (#4114463)
Almost blew it means he got the job done. He actually got one deep fly and hung in in a tough AB at the end. Looked as good as Bard.

Who's the revisionist? Please show me the game that Papelbon gave up 3 runs without getting an out? Do it twice and I'll blow you. (he might have done it once)
   259. Dale Sams Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:45 PM (#4114466)
He never got easy saves? He had a stretch last year alone of 14 appearances where he allowed one baserunner.
   260. plink Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:46 PM (#4114467)
Piehole, I think you now have to trash-talk in *every* game chatter.
   261. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 23, 2012 at 11:52 PM (#4114470)
From Bobby V. on the 9th inning mound discussion "I just asked him are you trying to kill me?"
   262. Dale Sams Posted: April 24, 2012 at 12:02 AM (#4114473)
I did like seeing the smiles in the face of impending doom.
   263. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 24, 2012 at 12:06 AM (#4114475)
What the #### are you talking about, Dale? Aceves saved the game and didn't give up a run and got 3 outs. That's EXACTLY how many Papelbon saves went. Are you ####### insane?
   264. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 24, 2012 at 12:08 AM (#4114477)
To be clear, what I'm talking about are the many, many "seat of your pants" saves that Papelbon got. Everyone around here ####### about how Papelbon "never" got easy saves. I am not making this up. I was around to hear the ######## for YEARS.
   265. Dale Sams Posted: April 24, 2012 at 12:11 AM (#4114481)
Then you had your head up your piehole, but dont bother looking up Papelbons gamelogs from last year.
   266. Dale Sams Posted: April 24, 2012 at 12:15 AM (#4114485)
SOMEHOW Papelbon managed to save 31 out of 34 save chances with a 0.933 WHIP...yet he never had any easy saves. Your memory like your brain has holes in it.
   267. The Mohole* of David Wells (* - Piehole) Posted: April 24, 2012 at 12:20 AM (#4114488)
Then you had your head up your piehole, but dont bother looking up Papelbons gamelogs from last year.

I'm gonna find the quote from Papelbon about not getting easy saves. He said it himself.

AND, you're the one tacking on the "I don't think Papelbon has ever given up 3 runs without getting an out." I was talking about tonight's game, and that's very clear from my comment above. And by my count, I see 12 games last year with ~1 P and 1 hit. That's not counting all the games with ~1 IP and more than 1 hit, nor is it counting the games with ~1 IP and 1 or more runs. I was making a light-hearted comment that Aceves reminded me of Papelbon's "interesting" saves, and you have to come in and blow up the discussion with an asinine comment about giving up 3 runs. Anyway, I don't really care about this conversation enough to talk more about it. I'm going to bed.
   268. Phil Coorey. Posted: April 24, 2012 at 12:41 AM (#4114493)
Trash talking - reverse jinx shenanigans - and some sideways trash talking is what this team needs - keep it up guys
