The Sox are 6.5 to 5 dogs here.

This not being a "big game" by any means, I expect Wake to pitch well.

Javvy has not fared all that well against the Sox in past match-ups, and
one particular ballgame comes to mind, where he came in as a reliever...he's
been going great this year however. Oh yes.

Is Javvy one of those guys who "finds a way to lose"?

What the hell was Cox thinking with JJ in the 8th last night? After Drew gets on Soriano or at least Moylan should be in the game. It's not like Youk/Bay are easy outs either. Jurrjens was already over 100 pitches. Gonzo/Soriano were rested as well.

Also, can the Braves get a Ross a 1B mitt. I'd like to see him in there against some lefties.
   3. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 07:41 PM (#3235265)
Looking at these lineups the over/under should be about 1.5 runs.
   4. Jay Seaver Posted: June 27, 2009 at 08:20 PM (#3235284)
Does that factor Julio Lugo's reverse-intangibles?
   5. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 08:20 PM (#3235285)
Last night the AL East went 5-0, beating the NL East 37-7.
   6. Jay Seaver Posted: June 27, 2009 at 08:25 PM (#3235288)
That Wakefield is making the most starts in franchise history (at that he's topping Clemens' mark) kind of surprises me; I figured it might be someone from the teens or something.
   7. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 08:25 PM (#3235290)
I hate Fox for giving me Cubs - White Sox instead of this game.
   8. Jay Seaver Posted: June 27, 2009 at 08:34 PM (#3235295)
Geez, Ellsbury wasn't dropped "for the long haul"... It was because even during the hit streak, he had a pretty unimpressive OBP.
   9. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 08:44 PM (#3235299)
There's no way that Adam Dunn is worse than Garrett Anderson in the OF.
   10. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 08:47 PM (#3235302)
The McCann-Vazquez battery is about the only positive thing the Braves have going right now.
   11. Matt Waters Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:03 PM (#3235307)
Hard luck Javy looks primed to get excellent run support again in this one.
   12. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:03 PM (#3235308)
My fantasy team (Vaz, McCann, Chipper) vs. my real team. Here's hoping for a 8-0 Sox with all the runs coming off Gonzo/Soriano.
   13. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:04 PM (#3235309)
MW,

Tell me about it. I felt so smart grabbing Javy in the 10th round and he's been everything I hoped, except a winner of many games.
   14. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:05 PM (#3235311)
That's the kind of thing that makes me not like fantasy baseball.
   15. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:06 PM (#3235312)
Did that break Papi's bat?
   16. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:07 PM (#3235313)
I like Kotsay as a bench player, but any time he's batting 5th you're in trouble.
   17. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:07 PM (#3235314)
If Lowell is going to miss a serious amount of time, the Red Sox HAVE TO get someone better than Kotsay. Even if his defense is as good as the stats say, he's a replacement level player at 1B.
   18. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:08 PM (#3235315)
Dan,

I'll owe you a Coke.
   19. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:09 PM (#3235316)
No one scores off the tandem closers.
   20. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:09 PM (#3235318)
Geez, that really bothers me. WHY DO THEY THINK KOTSAY DESERVES TO BAT FIFTH??? Have they decided to completely ignore the results and just focus on how nice he looks playing?
   21. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:10 PM (#3235319)
Amazing ability to GIDP for a fast guy.

Postal service guy seems cool in this add. He uses the word dude. I approve, in memory of my dad.
   22. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:11 PM (#3235321)
@19--

That Gonzo windup is a little ridiculous, no? I'd step out every time he reached his 2nd rock.
   23. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:12 PM (#3235322)
Who else would you bat 5th with today's lineup? Theo needs to just bite the bullet and get someone like Nick Johnson or Garret Atkins or something.
   24. Barry Gibb Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:13 PM (#3235323)
No one scores off the tandem closers.

Soriano's been dominating lately and Gonzo is back to pre-surgery levels in terms of velocity. They won't be able to sign both of them, but which one would you sign?
   25. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:21 PM (#3235327)
Morning all
   26. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:24 PM (#3235329)
Much needed quick inning for Javy.

I'd offer them both the same deal and take whoever accepts. Luckily, both are on pace to be Type A Free Agents.

22--Couldn't the rocks be part of his windup? I'm not sure the ump would grant time.
   27. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:39 PM (#3235335)
Oh hey look Kotsay up in the most important AB of the game so far...
   28. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:39 PM (#3235336)
I'd say nice at bat but I thought Papi was out twice
   29. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:41 PM (#3235339)
No chance
   30. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:49 PM (#3235346)
22--Couldn't the rocks be part of his windup? I'm not sure the ump would grant time.

Definitely. But at what point do you say, that's just too long of a windup? Is he allowed to rock 10 times while everyone waits around? 20? There has to be a limit and I think he's really pushing it.
   31. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:50 PM (#3235347)
Wakefield "does not have a good move to first?" WTF?
   32. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:51 PM (#3235349)
Chipper is a ridiculously good hitter. And no, the best hitter is not on deck. These guys are smoking crack in the booth.
   33. Barry Gibb Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:53 PM (#3235351)
That 3-0 to Chipper was about the same as the 1-2 to Ortiz in the top of the inning. Brutal...
   34. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:55 PM (#3235355)
3-0 automatic strike call. Nothing new.
   35. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:55 PM (#3235357)
Since he got his eyes fixed, McCann's been better this year. Chipper's going through a prolonged slump for first time in what seems like five years.
   36. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:56 PM (#3235358)
Why the free out? My mum could steal a base from wake
   37. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:58 PM (#3235360)
Lugo is such a useless ####
   38. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 09:59 PM (#3235362)
Not really worth PHing for Wakefield with how he's going with 2 outs and no one on.
   39. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:01 PM (#3235363)
Another wasted outing from Javy.
   40. Phil Coorey. Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:06 PM (#3235367)
Manny for 8th? Don't see why not?
   41. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:09 PM (#3235368)
I guess BC didn't learn his lesson last night with JJ.
   42. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:11 PM (#3235369)
No kidding on Javy. What a joke his support has been. He's cursed. He finally gets his results to match his peripherals and he can't get any support.

That breaking ball was a strike.
   43. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:16 PM (#3235374)
Why is Cox afraid to go to the pen?
   44. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:19 PM (#3235377)
Why O'Flaherty? So that he can bring Gonzo of they PH?
   45. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:19 PM (#3235378)
Even on his hot streak I'm not feeling too great about Ortiz vs. the lefty, to be honest. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if they pitch around him with Kotsay and Ellsbury due up behind him here.
   46. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:20 PM (#3235379)
No hitting for Kotsay?
   47. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:20 PM (#3235380)
Oh hey, an actual intentional walk, nevermind.
   48. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:20 PM (#3235381)
Um how the #### is Bay or Baldelli not hitting here?
   49. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:20 PM (#3235382)
I have no clue. I'm guessing Soriano might be unavailable with a sore arm or something (from overuse), but the Braves don't wanna tell anyone. Moylan seems to have fully recovered from TJS and has been very good of late.

Gonzalez needs to be in here.
   50. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:22 PM (#3235384)
What a shock--Kotsay looks stupid against a lefty. What the hell, Francona?
   51. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:22 PM (#3235385)
How the #### do you let mark ####### kotsay bat against the lefty there?
   52. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:24 PM (#3235386)
Hey, Kotsay was good enough to start in the postseason at a brand new position, so he's good enough for this.
   53. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:25 PM (#3235388)
Braves will come back and win now that I won't benefit from it.
   54. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:26 PM (#3235389)
I don't have any issue with them using him over Casey in the playoffs with how shitty Casey's range had gotten, but he should never bat late in an important AB vs a lefty with Bay sitting on the bench.
   55. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:28 PM (#3235390)
A Soriano sighting in the bullpen. I now have no clue as to why Cox has been hesitant to use his relief aces at the end of the last two games. Some misguided desire to get Javy/JJ the win?
   56. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:30 PM (#3235392)
You should have an issue with it, Dan. Even with super-duper defense, Kotsay's still not a good option at 1B. Casey was better and still a sure-handed fielder, and for god sakes, it's first base!

Terry plays the platoons when they don't matter, but ignores them when they make blinding sense.
   57. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:31 PM (#3235395)
Disregard that last remark.

Masterson looks wild.
   58. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:31 PM (#3235397)
Go to Pap or Okajimoney here.
   59. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:31 PM (#3235398)
Excuse me if I'm not offended that a 1B with 0 range and 0 power and who was so slow he couldn't even get to 2nd safely on a ball he hit off of the RF wall at Fenway Park was benched.
   60. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:33 PM (#3235401)
Why was Delcarmen yanked?
   61. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:33 PM (#3235403)
Fox here gave me Cubs - White Sox so I'm only following on Gameday, but why was MDC lifted anyway?
   62. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:39 PM (#3235408)
Nice recovery.

Dan, I disagree about Casey. He was still a better player than Kotsay and Kotsay was a big risk having not played much 1st. I'd bet he gave back a lot as a throw receiver in addition to his terrible hitting. But if the Red Sox were worried about Casey, they needed a better option than Kotsay.

MDC was lifted because Terry tends to like to go about 1.1 with relievers, doesn't he?
   63. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:42 PM (#3235412)
Why does he sound surprised that the pitcher will be hit for and Pap will come in?
   64. Jay Seaver Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:43 PM (#3235413)
Not comfortable with Papelbon in a 1-0 game.
   65. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:43 PM (#3235414)
I hadn't seen the Joe Buck ad before. That's really, really, gross.
   66. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:44 PM (#3235417)
It's okay, Jay. He's got Javy's mojo working in the other direction.
   67. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:44 PM (#3235418)
Joe Buck ad?
   68. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:46 PM (#3235424)
It's for Bud and he's talking about wanting to have a Bud with his dad.
   69. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:47 PM (#3235425)
Chipper is tooouuuugghhhh.
   70. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:48 PM (#3235426)
Jack Buck wouldn't be caught dead having a beer with Joe Buck.
   71. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:52 PM (#3235428)
####. Just missed.
   72. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:53 PM (#3235429)
Ellsbury's pissed. That was scary deep too.
   73. Dan Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:55 PM (#3235431)
Remember when Papelbon used to have a nasty splitter to put away guys with an 0-2 count who were sitting fastball?
   74. Darren Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:55 PM (#3235432)
Terrible 0-2 pitch. Typical ####### Red Sox killer Anderson!
   75. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 27, 2009 at 10:55 PM (#3235433)
Please pinch run. Please.
