Dale Arnold & Eck just said that the Yankees have signed Derek Lowe to replace CC Sabathia. Because it's the Yankees, that will actually go well.

I think they signed him to be a reliever, not to start.

A Brett Lillibridge homer. Of course.
   4. Dan Posted: August 11, 2012 at 07:03 PM (#4206464)
Lillibridge hurting the Red Sox is kinda funny.

Bad defense goes the Red Sox' way! Can they squander?
   6. Jay Seaver Posted: August 11, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4206474)
Lillibridge seems to have divided loyalties tonight.
   7. Jay Seaver Posted: August 11, 2012 at 07:19 PM (#4206476)
Weird play - Pedroia seems to be the only one who knew it was going to be off the wall from the start, and gets tagged out for it.

Soma runner thrown out at the plate with no outs and a runner thrown out at third with no outs. This is a ####### little league team.

Darn it, Jacoby; even if it wound up that close, a double would have been fine.

What a ridiculous throw.

I dunno, I think I disagree with you guys about that. Ellsbury had to be very favorable to make third on that, it took a very good defensive play. I bet the run expectancy of that decision was positive.
   12. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 11, 2012 at 07:58 PM (#4206494)
I think with no outs it needs to be a near certainty. The run expectancy probably goes up considerably by getting there but the risk of a dramatic decrease is too great for my liking.

I may have been biased, but I thought it was a near certainty. I saw the play developing and I thought triple. Maybe I was just overestimating Ellsbury's speed.
   14. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 11, 2012 at 08:07 PM (#4206502)
So according to Tango's slightly dated chart the increase is from about 64% to 85% with the out dropping the odds to 17%. That feels like to big a risk.

Adding to that is I think Ellsbury's speed is an argument for not going. He can get to third then home on relatively routine fly outs or grounders, this isn't a guy like Gonzalez who absolutely positively needs to take any base he can.

He looked out to me both live and on replay.

Looked out at second to me.

The "he" above is a reference to Choo on the steal.

Hey, how about they pull the starter who is not used to starting?
   19. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 11, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4206527)
Wow, that's a he'll of a playby Ellsbury.

Nice grab by Ellsbury, though it doesn't make up for more Lillibridge-related pain.
