Disappointed in the crowds in Baltimore this week. What are the fans there waiting for? They are a legitimate contender right now.
   2. Joey B. "disrespects the A" Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:22 PM (#4210003)
There are no real .baseball fans in Baltimore.

I jest, I jest. Just pulling a reverse Angelos there.
   3. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:44 PM (#4210015)
This is a terrible home plate umpiring job.
   4. Jay Seaver Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4210016)
Scott Podsednik being effective in both his stints with the Red Sox this year is some kind of pushing our luck.
   5. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4210017)
Holy dink and dunk.
   6. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4210020)
Baltimore is a small market. Their attendance is up a bit over last year, but I'm not sure they'll ever see a return to their attendance numbers in the mid 90s with the Nationals around.
   7. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:53 PM (#4210022)
Crawford looked bad there but I'm not sure he had any chance of catching it.
   8. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4210024)
Why is Buck so determined to bunt? Buchholz has nothing, swing the bats.
   9. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4210026)
I doubt Buck called that. I think it's just an incredibly boneheaded play.
   10. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:58 PM (#4210027)
Just a staggering amount of squander that inning.

It's hard to believe thy won't come back to haunt them.
   11. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 07:59 PM (#4210028)
How many innings in the history of baseball have had a homer, single, double, and walk, and only one run scored?

Not many, I bet.
   12. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4210037)
So, I guess the Red Sox are spoiling for a brawl?
   13. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 16, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4210048)

I've been in and out, where is that from? The Jones HBP?
   14. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4210049)
Yes. Jones clearly thought it was intentional (retaliation for his Salty takeout yesterday?)

I'm pretty sure the Orioles will retaliate.
   15. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4210053)
This is what happens when your pithcer squanders pitchers counts and your hitters squander base runners: you lose games.
   16. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 16, 2012 at 08:48 PM (#4210054)
That last wild pitch notwithstanding, Wieters has done a great job with Tillman's curve all tonight. He's thrown more than a few 57 footers.
   17. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4210060)
He's done a good job stopping it, but I'm not sure why he keeps calling that pitch if it's not working.

Tillman turned a bunc (5 or 6?) 0-2 counts into 3-2 counts.

And it kills me to see Gregg in a tie game.
   18. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 08:58 PM (#4210064)
I hate Gregg so muh. This has 3 run HR written all over it.
   19. Srul Itza Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:18 PM (#4210078)
Wait a minute -- Podsednik is on the Red Sox? When did that happen?
   20. Jay Seaver Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:26 PM (#4210085)
They picked him up off waivers from the Diamondbacks after trading him and Matt Albers for Breslow. I think he refused a minor league assignment in Arizona.
   21. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:29 PM (#4210086)
This has been a painfully slow implosion.
   22. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4210088)
Hi guys,

I admire your dedication.

DKDC--I hope you and the other Orioles fans enjoying this year. Fun team.
   23. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4210091)
I admire your dedication.

Man does not live by RIzzoli & Isles alone. Besides, by focusing all of my hatred on Bobby Valentine I am able to be a more pleasant co-worker, son, brother and friend. At least that's what I keep telling myself.
   24. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4210093)
Thanks, Darren - that's gracious considering all the game thread tweaking I've done over the years.

I'm certainly enjoying this season, but games like this remind how quickly it will aill vanish when the time comes.
   25. Joltin' Joe Orsulak Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4210095)
MLB Gameday confirmed my suspicion that I just watched Clay Buchholz set down the O's in order on 9 pitches and 3 strikeouts. Anyone know how many times that's been done in MLB history? NESN announcers somehow made no mention of it.
   26. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4210096)
Jose - you are a trooper. I've definitely taken breaks over the years but I always come back and watch meaningless baseball because I love the game so much.

As an outsider looking in, the Red Sox are still dangerous and still have a chance, as far as I'm concerned.
   27. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4210098)
I'm sure it's been done before, but I'm not sure it's ever been done before by a pitcher who looked as shitty as Buchholz had looked for the first 5 innings.
   28. Joltin' Joe Orsulak Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4210099)
Wikipedia has it. By my count that was the 48th time in MLB history. Leave it to Orsillo and Remy to not even notice it.
   29. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4210101)
Rizzoli and Isles? RIZZOLI AND ISLES?
   30. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4210103)
Why would Remy and Orsillo mention it? Did it relate to Jerry's wardrobe or a funny looking fan?
   31. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:50 PM (#4210104)
Why not just watch the Mentalist or Burn Notice or Franklin and Bash?
   32. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:51 PM (#4210105)
"ha ha ha Jerry. He went from 28 to 31. Ha ha ha. Apparently it was the crushing poverty and hopeless future that led him to do it. Ha ha ha har har. Giggle."
   33. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4210111)
Are you guys all mad because I made fun o Rizzoli and Isles?
   34. Joltin' Joe Orsulak Posted: August 16, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4210112)
They are terrible, and in spite of that massive overlook, they are not as bad as I've heard them in years past. At least they are seeming/pretending to enjoy their jobs tonight.
   35. Jay Seaver Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:02 PM (#4210116)
Well, until they started going all Pravda with Tom Werner just now.
   36. Jay Seaver Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4210123)
This game is Clay Buchholz's year in microcosm, isn't it? Hopeless at the start, pretty darn good by the end.
   37. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4210127)
The audio on this game is really messed up.
   38. Steve Balboni's Personal Trainer Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:20 PM (#4210130)
The bottom third of the Red Sox lineup:

7. Nick Punto, 3B
8. Pedro Ciriaco, SS
9. Scott Podsednik, CF

Also: Buchholz has been amazing in the last few months. Entering tonight, in his last 11 starts, he is averaging 7.2 IP, 4-to-1 K-to-BB ratio, 59 hits in 82 IP, ERA of 2.08...and he's pretty much on track to do it again tonight.

Also: Adrian Gonzalez continues to go nuts. Two more hits, two more RBIs. OPS of over 1.000 in the last 47 games, 46 RBIs in 46 games.
   39. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4210132)
Where are the walks, though?
   40. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4210133)
The Orioles seem to have a knack for winning series but then laying total turds in the finale so you feel like they lost the series.

He's been doing great since Youkilis was traded, and on fire since after the meeting with owners. Just to cherry-pick endpoints that may or may not have anything to do with anything.
   42. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4210136)
Beats the alternative, DK, amirite? :)
   43. villageidiom Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:28 PM (#4210137)
Where are the walks, though?
As Ellsbury said a while ago, he'll walk when they stop throwing him strikes.
   44. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:29 PM (#4210138)
I WAS PROMISED WALKS!
   45. Jay Seaver Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:30 PM (#4210140)
Victory! Sweep the series with the Yankees and the Red Sox will be at .500!

... Man, modest goals suck.
   46. DKDC Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:32 PM (#4210141)
Yes it does, #42.

Aceves completely owns the Orioles for some reason.

Until next time, Sox fans.
   47. villageidiom Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:32 PM (#4210142)
I WAS PROMISED WALKS!
Morales pitches tomorrow. Will you settle for balks?
   48. Darren Posted: August 16, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4210143)
Okay, as long as it rhymes, I'll take it. I'll also accept talks, hawks, and chalks.

Oh, great. We'll end up getting Coldplay's greatest hits. Thanks a bunch.
