It's hard not to think the baseball gods aren't saying "ok sox fans, you got your world series (twice!) now you gotta take it for a little while." knowing how baseball players are I'm sure Crisp was hearing it in the clubhouse today after the 0 for 5 yesterday, that should fix that razzing.

I think the Athletics are the team I'm rooting for in the AL. Lots of likeable players there.

THEY ARE ALL LIKEABLE

Also, I would like to know what Coco Crisp had for breakfast on June 7, and go get some of that for myself.

Coco has had a nice little career for himself but it's been vastly different in shape than what I expected after the Sox got him.

And there is soemthing fun about rooting for an Oakland team led by a slugging Cuban outfielder.

Josh Reddick is Cuban????

I was looking some things up earlier. Just for reference:

The last sub-.500 Red Sox season (almost certain to happen again this year): 1997
The last 90-loss Red Sox season (they would have to go 8-19 or worse, including tonight, the rest of the way): 1966

I guess Aceves is the swingman again.

Doubront has really run out of steam but I like what he gave this year. Hopefully next year he can be as effective as he was early and just do it for a full season.

Also, obviously I mathed wrong on the 90-loss season somehow. Including tonight, they would have to go 10-19 or worse.

Actually, screw that; I want to know what Crisp had for breakfast TODAY.

This team is just bad.
   11. Dan Posted: September 01, 2012 at 10:28 PM (#4224826)
I think 90 losses is achievable. And I'm rooting for it, given that it will mean Valentine is toast and it will mean likely a top 3 or 4 draft pick.

Hahahha Aceves. Wow.

And seriously, it's September. Why the #### are Podsednik and Aviles playing instead of Kalish and Iglesias? Is Valentine daring them to fire him before the season ends or what? Podsednik is batting third, even.

With last nights disaster and the short start tonight this game has the makings of a Mike Aviles relief appearance.

I think Valentine is trying to get fired and collect a check for a year. When a guy says stuff like this (courtesy of Extra Bases):

• Scott Podsednik is hitting third. That seemed a little unusual, so Valentine was asked about it.

“Just a mistake,” Valentine said. “Is that what it says on the lineup? ... Just switch it up. Who knows, maybe it will look good? Haven’t seen it."

Nobody has ever seen it. In 902 previous career starts, Podsednik has never hit third before.

• Red Sox starters have a 5.00 ERA, one of the worst in baseball. But Valentine said he isn’t planning on any changes to the rotation.

"No," he said. "Have any suggestions?"

First, I fully support tanking the year. Every game Iglesias does not play is a waste of time; same for Kalish.

Second, tanking makes a hell of a lot of sense, because if you get a top-10 pick it's protected, so you can sign a big-name FA (if they want) and not lose a top-10 pick. Tank away.

But really, those are the rantings of a man who doesn't care and is trying to get fired and is just wanting the nightmare to end.

The comment about the rotation isn't really that ridiculous. The sox really aren't loaded with options at the moment. I wouldn't hate seeing Mortensen get a couple of starts just as kind of a "what the hell" thing but it's not like they are keeping some useful starter unused.

Pods third is just asinine. On the plus side at least he seems to have known if the opposing starter was lefty or righty tonight.

It really is like something out of a movie, isn't it?

No, you know what's ridiculous? Griffin's curveball.
