Glad you got the K, Jon, but please don't leave more cutters over the heart of the plate like that. Guys like Willingham will hit that pitch 500 feet.
   2. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4199255)
First couple of batters Lester has more movement on the cutter than I can remember seeing for a long time.

Every time I see Adrian Gonzalez in the last few weeks, he's hitting the ball extremely hard somewhere.
   4. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4199265)
Impressive play by Dozier.
   5. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4199266)
Lavarnway seems fine on defense.
   6. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4199267)
And yeah, he got robbed by Dozier there.
   7. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4199277)
Lavarnway seems fine on defense.

Agreed. He's not great but he seems smooth and comfortable back there and his footwork looks fine too me.
   8. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:53 PM (#4199279)
Well ####
   9. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4199281)
Yeah, no one's going to confuse Lavarnway for Fisk or Ivan Rodriguez or anything, but he looks at least as good as Saltalamacchia back there, if not a bit better.
   10. Chip Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4199282)
That AB pretty much sums up Lester's season. He's a rookie pitcher again. Two outs, 2-2 count, a base open, and he grooves a pitch exactly where it shouldn't be. The kind of thing no veteran should ever do.

And because he's made a stupid rookie mistake he then compounds it by giving up a blooper.
   11. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4199284)
I think he's better than Salty. Salty is terrible in my opinion.
   12. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4199285)
Great play by Kalish. Glad he was hustling, Pedroia was all sorts of turned around.
   13. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 07:58 PM (#4199287)
Jesus Pedroia completely ###### that play, and Ellsbury wasn't even trying on it. Luckily Kalish was running full bore and bailed them both out.
   14. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:00 PM (#4199288)
That's a tough one for Pedroia, on replay I think he could have gotten there but Ellsbury was just jogging in.
   15. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:06 PM (#4199294)
This team continues to be amazingly frustrating. They go on a decent run leading up to the deadline, and now they just stop hitting and the pitching is back to mediocre, even facing the Twins and some scrub named Deduno.
   16. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:08 PM (#4199296)
It's a .500 team for a reason Dan.
   17. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:23 PM (#4199301)
Crawford still has no clue how that ball caroms out into LF.
   18. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4199306)
Weak hack on a 3-1 meatball, Kalish.
   19. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:36 PM (#4199307)
Scout! tells me that Deduno is getting tired because his fastball is dipping as low as 81. I think Scout! may not be clear on the concept of a change up.
   20. Chip Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:36 PM (#4199308)
Deduno has no strikeouts, falls behind every hitter, has a ton of walks already ... and yet Kalish swings at a 3-1 pitch that's so high he can't get on top of it, and grounds out weakly. Because, why?
   21. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:37 PM (#4199309)
We're seeing the real Ciriaco now.
   22. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:38 PM (#4199311)
Deduno has thrown as many balls as strikes in this game.
   23. Chip Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:39 PM (#4199312)
And Ellsbury caps the inning by swinging at ball four and ... grounding out weakly.
   24. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:42 PM (#4199313)
83 pitches for Deduno. 42 strikes.
   25. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:50 PM (#4199317)
So this team will be back to .500 after tonight. Yet again.
   26. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:50 PM (#4199318)
They really should've at least sold on Salty and probably Ross too.
   27. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:54 PM (#4199321)
I've found that after about 3-4 innings I have a pretty good sense of where a game is headed with this team. I don't think I'm that sharp but lately I find that if I think "OK, they'll get something going" they do and if I think "nope, not tonight" I'm right.
   28. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:56 PM (#4199322)
Can't score off a pitcher that walks 6 batters per 9 innings. Nice.
   29. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 08:59 PM (#4199323)
C'mon Lavarnway!
   30. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:02 PM (#4199325)
Of course that couldn't find the gap.
   31. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:03 PM (#4199327)
Deduno ends up throwing more balls than strikes in 6 innings, and not allowing a run.
   32. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:04 PM (#4199328)
Salty doesn't make that play.
   33. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4199334)
Scout! is easily the stupidest thing going on GameDay.
   34. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:26 PM (#4199343)
Can Crawford just get surgery and go away again?
   35. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:28 PM (#4199345)
Why just Crawford? Why not the rest of these stiffs? I'd say this is shocking but it's all too predictable. What a dreadful baseball team.
   36. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:33 PM (#4199353)
Because theoretically he'll be a useful player next season if they can get his elbow fixed and give him enough time to rehab it before April. Instead we'll see him get the surgery in October and miss 2-3 months again next year.

Nice job, Middlebrooks.
   37. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4199359)
Dan, the Sox medical staff has it covered.
   38. Dan Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4199360)
Seriously, #### this team.
   39. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: August 02, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4199364)
Great work boys.
   40. Phil Coorey is a T-Shirt Salesman Posted: August 02, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4199379)
I'm enjoying not watching the Sox , but hope everyone is well in any case.
