Having already delurked to say goodbye to Kerry in the main thread, popping in here to say goodbye to Kerru. Good times.
   3. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 02:32 PM (#4135100)
I wish the wind was blowing a little harder, what with Dunn playing in LF.
   4. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 03:06 PM (#4135140)
Konerko beaned in the head. That sucks.

Samardzija went up and in on Ramirez, too, so I imagine the Sox are a little pissed.
   5. Arch Stanton Posted: May 18, 2012 at 03:39 PM (#4135175)
Samardzija has thrown 64 pitches through 5, so maybe we'll see Kerry in the 8th.
   6. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 03:41 PM (#4135179)
What a complete f#cking bunch of bullsh#t. Sveum is definitely getting his money's worth and ought to. Just complete f#cking bullsh#t.

I love watching Beckham play defense.
   8. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 03:45 PM (#4135189)
Seriously, that pisses me off more than any umpiring call in a long time.

For those that didn't see it - DeJesus hit a ball in the gap that was cut off by Viciedo in the gap. DeJesus tried to stretch it into a double, Viciedo's throw was off line, and the sliding DeJesus beat the diving Beckham to the bag. But Beckham drove DeJesus off the bag with his shoulder - it was essential an all-out tackle - and f#cking Eric Cooper called DeJesus out for leaving the base after initially calling him safe.

In no way, shape or form did DeJesus leave the base under his own power. It was a flying shoulder tackle by Beckham and Cooper is a f#cking #sshole for calling DeJesus out.
   9. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 18, 2012 at 03:52 PM (#4135202)
And naturally, the White Sox announcers are blaming DeJesus for the whole thing.
   10. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 03:56 PM (#4135212)
They are? Not that I'm all that surprised, but what'd they say? DeJesus slid into second base like every other person who's ever slid into second?
   11. Arch Stanton Posted: May 18, 2012 at 03:56 PM (#4135213)
Just saw the video. I seriously can't believe that Steve Stone thinks that's a good call. Since when did tackling a runner off the base become a valid way to get an out?
   12. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:02 PM (#4135219)
Just saw the Stone clip on GameDay, and there's not much to say except that even he knew he was talking BS, because he added, "That's a little bit of football coming out in Beckham."
   13. Borussia, Du bist so wunderschön! (Mark Edward) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:06 PM (#4135226)

Hawk & Stone didn't really defend the call. Stone kinda made a joke about Beckham's "football mentality" & Hawk complimented Viciedo on getting the ball to the infield quickly.
   14. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:13 PM (#4135233)
I don't really think that letting BPJ hit there is all that awful of a decision, because he's probably the Cubs' best hitting pitcher, and I don't mind seeing him pitch another inning. If there were two outs instead of one, I'd feel differently.

That he got a big hit is a nice bonus.
   15. Don Geovany Soto (chris h.) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:14 PM (#4135234)
Can't believe he let BPJ bat in the 7th. OK, so sure, BPJ got a hit and drove in a run to tie the game, but I'm not letting that overrule my annoyance.
   16. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:15 PM (#4135235)
Hawk & Stone didn't really defend the call.

Stone said that DeJesus was just as responsible for the collision as Beckham. I suppose that if you parse that statement very carefully, it's not technically a defense of the call, but it's sure meant to give the impression of a defense.
   17. Don Geovany Soto (chris h.) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:15 PM (#4135236)
Fair point, Brian. Plus, it's not like we have a deep bench or anything.
   18. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:15 PM (#4135239)
Who was it that went to GAB a few weeks ago and said BPJ hit some of the furthest balls in BP?

Anyway, bizarre turn of events and I would guess that BPJ only got to hit because the pen is that terrible.
   19. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:21 PM (#4135248)
####.
   20. Don Geovany Soto (chris h.) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:21 PM (#4135249)
Dammit.
   21. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:22 PM (#4135250)
God damn it all. Of all the people.
   22. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:23 PM (#4135253)
Who was it that went to GAB a few weeks ago and said BPJ hit some of the furthest balls in BP?

That was me - he hit it into the back couple rows of the bleachers in left. And he had a second that landed in the back of the Reds' bullpen, which was also a moon shot.
   23. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:26 PM (#4135260)
Man, that sucks that WGN went to a commercial there. I would have loved to see the crowd reaction to Wood's entrance.

Well Hawk was already pissed about Samardzija hitting Konerko, so I hope you weren't expecting a completely objective review of the call.
   25. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:29 PM (#4135264)
Well, at least he got one last strikeout. Good job, Kerry.

God damn it, I'm tearing up.
   26. Sweet Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:29 PM (#4135265)
*sniff*
   27. Don Geovany Soto (chris h.) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:30 PM (#4135266)
Me too. At least they're lingering for the standing O, etc.
   28. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:32 PM (#4135268)
At least they're lingering for the standing O, etc.

Yeah, credit where due. WGN came through when it counted.

Man, that hit me so much harder than I expected it would.
   29. Walt Davis Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:32 PM (#4135270)
Thanks Kerry!

Nice.

Agreed.

Is he this generation's Ernie Banks? Or Ryno? Not in terms of ability/performance so much as being "Mr. Cub."
   32. Arch Stanton Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:35 PM (#4135279)
The 278th three pitch strikeout of his career. The first one to bring me to tears, though.

yeah. quite a bit.

#31. I'd say so.
   35. Moses Taylor peacocks peacock Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:39 PM (#4135288)
Yes. He's going to always work the Cubs in some capacity.
   36. Don Geovany Soto (chris h.) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:39 PM (#4135289)
Len just pointed out that kid K ends his career with the second-best K/9 ratio of all time behind the Big Unit.

I had no idea.
   37. Borussia, Du bist so wunderschön! (Mark Edward) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:44 PM (#4135295)

Nathan Jones has been a real find this year. Mediocre minor league career, had a nice spring, and now he's arguably the Sox best reliever (I like Reed & Crain more though).
   38. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:46 PM (#4135298)
Lalli in the game now, I guess just to see what happens? Odd decision to take Castillo out in a close game unless he's hurt now, too.
   39. Don Geovany Soto (chris h.) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:56 PM (#4135306)
Classic!
   40. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:56 PM (#4135308)
Holy ####.
   41. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:56 PM (#4135309)
They're giving Barney a double for that. LOL official scorer.
   42. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:58 PM (#4135312)
I'd sure rather see Cardenas here.
   43. Brian C Posted: May 18, 2012 at 04:59 PM (#4135315)
Oh well. Reed Johnson 0 for the last 2 nights.
   44. Don Geovany Soto (chris h.) Posted: May 18, 2012 at 05:03 PM (#4135319)
LOL official scorer indeed.

Goodbye, Kerry. We really will miss you. *sniff*
