Hmm, Rick Sutcliffe or Chip Caray... the decisions life gives us.
   2. Brian White Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:34 PM (#3231700)
Nice play by McLouth on that gapper.

Seemed like it was hit directly between CF and LF, but Garrett Anderson was nowhere in the picture when McLouth grabbed it.
   3. Brian White Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:42 PM (#3231729)
What's the usual crowd reaction when Hacky McSwingsalot steps to the plate nowadays? I thought I heard mostly boos as he was announced.
   4. Barry Gibb Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:54 PM (#3231760)
Just when Kamikaze was actually starting to prove he belonged. ####...
   5. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:56 PM (#3231769)
Goddammit, I was just starting to like KK.
   6. Brian White Posted: June 24, 2009 at 11:57 PM (#3231771)
Yeah, that's a tough break. I guess he really couldn't go. If Kawakami was feeling questionable, he could have just stood at home plate and looked at three strikes. Would have been just as effective as Diory Hernandez.
   7. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:00 AM (#3231783)
And now to Medlen. Who, for the record, hasn't pitched in about a month. If he gets blown up its completely Bobby's fault. Seems like Bennett pitches anytime the starters don't go seven, but Medlen can't buy his way into a game.
   8. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:01 AM (#3231790)
According to Michael Kay, the Braves only went to this young "Yunel Escobar" at SS this year after Furcal decided not to sign with them. Escobar looks like a pretty good player; I wonder where he's played the last couple seasons?
   9. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:05 AM (#3231808)
Well, the plan was to sign Furcal, and use Yunel as the centerpiece of a Jake Peavy trade.

Nice inning from Medlen.
   10. 25 Classic Love Songs by Sid Bream Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:09 AM (#3231827)
Wait -- I just got home. What happened to Kawakami?
   11. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:15 AM (#3231849)
Anderson's laziness knows no bounds.
   12. Big Train Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:15 AM (#3231850)
Joba just debuted a 69 MPH hook.
   13. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:16 AM (#3231854)
Nailed by a comebacker off the side of his face from Joba. Looked more stunned than anything else.
   14. Big Train Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:16 AM (#3231855)
Anderson's laziness knows no bounds.

There was a runner on first. Anderson can't run to first on a dropped swing and miss.
   15. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:18 AM (#3231859)
sj, maybe he was referring to the Anderson wanting to get that AB over with by swinging at a 58-foot slider?
   16. Big Train Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:19 AM (#3231867)
Anderson doesn't know what the #### to do with Joba. He swung about 10 minutes before the curve came over the plate for strike 2.
   17. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:23 AM (#3231897)
It's as if Anderson doesn't know how to exert himself.

Medlen's gonna have to be sharp if he ever wants to pitch again.
   18. Big Train Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:24 AM (#3231898)
Yankees have been victims of an interleague combined no hitter before.
   19. 25 Classic Love Songs by Sid Bream Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:24 AM (#3231902)
Nice innings by Medlen. If only he would do something with that flat-ass hat.
   20. Dr Love Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:26 AM (#3231905)
Cox has a rep for getting players to play hard. Which leads me to wonder how awful Anderson would be if Cox wasn't his manager.
   21. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:26 AM (#3231907)
Well, Swingy McPopup gets another two weeks in the lineup.
   22. Big Train Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:26 AM (#3231909)
Jeez. thats terrible.
   23. nick swisher hygiene Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:28 AM (#3231913)
if we lose 1-0 on a Francoeur homer Girardi must go; some things are just inexcusable.....
   24. 25 Classic Love Songs by Sid Bream Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:28 AM (#3231914)
Hacky McSwingsalot does something! He actually did something!
   25. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:29 AM (#3231917)
Where's Hutch to ##### out the 3rd base ump for that call?
   26. Barry Gibb Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:31 AM (#3231919)
Hacky McSwingsalot does something! He actually did something!

It's bad for the Braves and good for other teams, cuz then opposing pitchers get to see him for a little while longer.
   27. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:33 AM (#3231921)
Let's remember the Braves are actually shopping him. I hope Dayton Moore was watching.
   28. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:33 AM (#3231923)
All four of Joba's Ks have come on that exact same pitch - slider practically bounced off the plate. That normally how he gets his strikeouts?
   29. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:38 AM (#3231933)
And the dream of a 27 up, 27 down game lives on! Thanks, gift call!
   30. Latnam's first name is Bob Lemon's middl Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:39 AM (#3231941)
All things considered, Medlen is looking pretty sharp tonight.
   31. Latnam's first name is Bob Lemon's middl Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:40 AM (#3231942)
Well, I jinx him there, didn't I?
   32. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:40 AM (#3231944)
Frankie Brains!!!
   33. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:40 AM (#3231947)
Timely comment, Latnam.

Tied up. Thanks, gift call.
   34. Big Train Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:40 AM (#3231948)
Its not like the ump has to look at base and listen for the sound of the glove.

Thats some horseshit right there. The umpires have been ####### terrible all season. Regressed about 4/5 years.
   35. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:40 AM (#3231949)
That normally how he gets his strikeouts?

If amateurs keep swinging at it, yes.
   36. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:42 AM (#3231958)
The pit in my stomach is the feeling that Bennett will be pitching in a high-leverage situation tonight.
   37. Cowboy Popup Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:43 AM (#3231960)
Whoa, the chatter has people in it? I just came to ##### about the pick off call. Terrible ####### call.
   38. dingo powered war machine (CoB) Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:46 AM (#3231973)
a) insanely horribly awful call

b) FRANKIE BRAINS!!!
   39. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:47 AM (#3231984)
Medlen really does need to throw more breaking balls, eh?
   40. Latnam's first name is Bob Lemon's middl Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:47 AM (#3231985)
Bennett? Seriously? WTF?
   41. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:49 AM (#3231988)
This situation has 'two bases-loaded walks followed by a 3-run double' written all over it, right?
   42. Dr Love Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:49 AM (#3231989)
The pit in my stomach is the feeling that Bennett will be pitching in a high-leverage situation tonight.

QFT.
   43. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:50 AM (#3231990)
This trust of Bennett is ####### infuriating.
   44. 25 Classic Love Songs by Sid Bream Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:50 AM (#3231991)
Ignatius, I would like to ask the pit of your stomach for stock tips.
   45. Latnam's first name is Bob Lemon's middl Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:52 AM (#3231996)
Jeff Bennett needs off this freakin' team.
   46. Orange & Blue Velvet Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:52 AM (#3231997)
That is the worst 0-2 pitch of all-time.
   47. Latnam's first name is Bob Lemon's middl Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:53 AM (#3231998)
"Hmm, 1-1 game, bases loaded, one of the best hitter's on the planet at the plate... I know! I'll use the worst pitcher on the team!"
   48. dingo powered war machine (CoB) Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:53 AM (#3231999)
YAY-ROD!
   49. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 12:56 AM (#3232006)
So predictable. So stupid. Bring up Valdez. Bring up anyone. Let Francoeur pitch. Anyone but Bennett.
   50. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:05 AM (#3232026)
Bennett can't pitch himself off this team fast enough.
   51. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:08 AM (#3232035)
How high can his WHIP go?
   52. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:21 AM (#3232059)
Thanks for giving up that homer, Bennett.
   53. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:21 AM (#3232060)
Nice swing, Prado.
   54. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:24 AM (#3232065)
Is that really a great defensive play if your outfielder has to turn around, what, twice?
   55. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:29 AM (#3232074)
Is Kotchman drunk?
   56. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:30 AM (#3232075)
WTF, guys? Casey, if the pitcher's going to be late, just run it to the bag your damn self.
   57. dingo powered war machine (CoB) Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:31 AM (#3232077)
Is that really a great defensive play if your outfielder has to turn around, what, twice?

a better defensive play then when the batter is half way to the RF corner before the pitcher gets to the bag ...
   58. dingo powered war machine (CoB) Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:31 AM (#3232078)
well, or that ...
   59. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:32 AM (#3232079)
This team is a defensive abomination.
   60. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:32 AM (#3232080)
Man, we're trying our best to give them runs this inning.

Like the intentional pass, with Cano up next and O'Flaherty hardly walking anyone.
   61. dingo powered war machine (CoB) Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:34 AM (#3232083)
well, or *that* ...
   62. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:34 AM (#3232084)
Jesus Christ.
   63. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:34 AM (#3232085)
Well, crap. The umpires giveth, the umpires taketh away.
   64. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:39 AM (#3232093)
So, in a hypothetical game in which the umps have made no mistakes, its 4-3 NY. Hmph.
   65. 25 Classic Love Songs by Sid Bream Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:40 AM (#3232098)
Jesus. I'd trade Kotchman, O'Flaherty, and Bennett for a used washing machine about now.
   66. Big Train Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:41 AM (#3232100)
that was very close play. Cano was basically striding to the bag, it wasn't an obvious out of the baseline. he wasnt on the grass or anything.
   67. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:42 AM (#3232101)
Huh? That looked quite obvious on the replay. Both feet were on the left side of the line.
   68. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:45 AM (#3232104)
The offensive futility from the OF/1B has overshadowed the mental mistakes in the field and basepaths this year.
   69. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:45 AM (#3232105)
Also, my mistake. Its 5-3 NY in the hypothetical umpire mistake-free game.
   70. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:58 AM (#3232115)
Shockingly good AB from OutBoy. Come on, Dayton. Kid's on fire.
   71. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 01:59 AM (#3232118)
Heh, pretty much every MLB pitcher should be able to put away Whiffy McGIDP every time he gets to 0-2. Bad pitching there.
   72. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:00 AM (#3232121)
Snap out of it, Kelly.
   73. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:03 AM (#3232128)
*sigh*

Kelly's hitting this season is super-disappointing. Is it going to be our curse of these modern Braves teams to have new second basemen bust out in their age-25 season, only to disappoint in what should be their prime years? I hope not.
   74. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:05 AM (#3232129)
Its gonna suck when the Braves sell Kelly for thirty cents on the dollar in December. Prado/Infante will be the 2nd baseman in 2010.
   75. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:05 AM (#3232131)
The homelessman's Soriano, Acosta.
   76. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:07 AM (#3232133)
How was Kelly gonna hit that ####? Two fastballs on the outside corner, sinker away, cutter eating up his hands. No chance. How can you complain?
   77. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:08 AM (#3232134)
Those ex-Angels are really lazy as ####, aren't they?

Anderson runs like he has a load in his pants.
   78. Dr Love Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:09 AM (#3232135)
Is Anderson going to dive for a ball, ever?
   79. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:09 AM (#3232136)
I think Melky just pulled a poor man's Ty Cobb.
   80. Brian White Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:09 AM (#3232137)
I'm not complaining about that AB, Obama. Just his season in general.

Even the announcers are ragging on Anderson's defense.
   81. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:10 AM (#3232139)
How can you complain?

I mean, besides it's being predictable as ####, mwwwaahahahahahahha
   82. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:11 AM (#3232140)
I gotcha Brian. I didn't realize he'd been so bad this year.

BTW, how is he defensively? That seemed to me like a genius Cox move, sliding an OF to 2B with success.
   83. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:13 AM (#3232141)
TotalZone likes him, FWIW.
   84. Obama Bomaye Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:14 AM (#3232142)
I had forgotten he played SS in the minors. I guess that makes the move somewhat less genius.
   85. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:15 AM (#3232145)
Kelly's been average to solid this year. In the past he had trouble going to his right, but he seems to have gotten over it. Despite the trouble at the plate he hasn't carried it to the field.
   86. dingo powered war machine (CoB) Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:32 AM (#3232155)
awwww ... I love Frankie Brains!
   87. flournoy Posted: June 25, 2009 at 02:37 AM (#3232158)
So the only bright spot from this game was Francoeur? Pass.
