   2. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:12 PM (#4174991)
Grr. A leadoff hit to Jeter is not exactly talking me down from this ledge, Sox.
   3. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:13 PM (#4174993)
Beckett has won six straight against the Yankees, so he's guaranteed to suck tonight.
   4. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:14 PM (#4174994)
Time Warner installs cable on Monday, so I'm stuck with radio tonight.

####, singles.

I could go to a bar, but I live in ####### New York City.
   6. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4174996)
So maybe I'll find something else to do soon...
   7. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4174997)
Seven friggin pitches to load the bases. Beckett is sucking efficiently.
   8. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4174998)
Throws worst curve ball in baseball history to hit ARod.
   9. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:16 PM (#4175000)
I'm incredibly pessimistic about this series, and the start of this game hasn't done anything to make me feel like I'm off base in that.
   10. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4175001)
Time Warner installs cable on Monday, so I'm stuck with radio tonight.

You don't have MLB.tv?
   11. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:18 PM (#4175002)
Missing badly with pretty much every pitch.
   12. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:19 PM (#4175004)
(Starts checking 9:30pm movie listings)
   13. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:19 PM (#4175005)
You don't have MLB.tv?
I live in New York, so it's blacked out. I could try to get a proxy server internet twitter, but so far this isn't driving me to find solutions.
   14. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4175007)
None of those four balls to Cano were even close to being strikes. Dice-K bad location.
   15. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4175008)
Oh #########.
   16. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4175009)
Hey Josh Beckett. #### you.
   17. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4175011)
Ace-o-riffic performance.
   18. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4175013)
Beckett has nothing and can't throw strikes. Good lord.
   19. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:22 PM (#4175014)
Germano already warming.
   20. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:24 PM (#4175016)
This is mind-blowingly awful.

I very strongly dislike Josh Beckett. Not just as a baseball player, but as a human being too.
   21. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:25 PM (#4175017)
Beckett is even missing the strike zone on pickoff throws to first. Good lord.
   22. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:27 PM (#4175019)
He's not going to get out of this inning.
   23. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:27 PM (#4175021)
This is what happens when you have to start a series with the back of your rotation, rather than your ace Franklin Morales.
   24. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:27 PM (#4175022)
Going to be tough on the Boston bullpen if Beckett only goes 1 or 2 innings, given the doubleheader tomorrow.
   25. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:28 PM (#4175023)
Just get Crawford his TJ surgery, DL Gonzalez until his shoulder is strong enough to actually hit home runs again, and let Pedroia stay on the DL until he actually heals up for once. This season is going nowhere.
   26. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:29 PM (#4175024)
Well, Germano can cover the depth innings and then get optioned tomorrow. If nothing else, the Sox have the AAA bullpen depth to handle a disaster start before a double-header.
   27. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:29 PM (#4175025)
Now I'm sort of morbidly curious - will the Yankees be able to find a way to score on their third out of the inning?
   28. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:30 PM (#4175026)
All the hitters so far with a recorded at-bat have reached base. I'm assuming the inning ends on a base hit and then an out-on-base.
   29. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:31 PM (#4175027)
Was Beckett just not warmed up?

I like that explanation, because then I can blame this on his lack of character. #### that guy and his idiot beard.
   30. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:31 PM (#4175028)
Beckett v. Martin is attest of who sucks more. Martin 0-27 coming into this AB.

And Josh sucks just slightly less than Russell!
   31. Cowboy Popup Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:32 PM (#4175029)
I very strongly dislike Josh Beckett. Not just as a baseball player, but as a human being too.

I agree completely. Makes games like this extra enjoyable.

Of course Martin made the out, he's terrible.
   32. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:32 PM (#4175031)
Crawford is saying the elbow still bothers him and surgery is a possibility in the offseason. Why don't they just get him under the knife and fixed ASAP instead of bringing him back injured and then putting opening day 2013 into jeopardy too?
   33. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:33 PM (#4175032)
The Yankees hit .857 that inning. Ugh.
   34. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:33 PM (#4175033)
Didn't Martin turn down like a $30M/3 year extension or something before this season? That's looking like an incredibly bad decision right about now...
   35. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:34 PM (#4175034)
Crawford is saying the elbow still bothers him and surgery is a possibility in the offseason.
Seriously? This team is run by morons.
   36. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:34 PM (#4175035)
You'd think Beckett would pitch better on National Fried Chicken Day.
   37. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4175037)
Well, Nava's not giving up, at least.
   38. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4175039)
You'd think Beckett would pitch better on National Fried Chicken Day(.
Oh, that's some good stuff.

(I'm getting Pies N Thighs tonight, then. It's enjoined on me by America.)
   39. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4175041)
Wrong park for the golf swing, Kalish.
   40. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4175045)
Great start by Henry Owens this afternoon - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K

Two million dollar man Tzu-Wei Lin debuted, 1-3 with a walk, a steal, and no ks.
   41. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:42 PM (#4175047)
I enjoy when Teixeira fails at things.
   42. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:42 PM (#4175048)
OK, let's go for two-way uglyball. It's the Sox' best hope.
   43. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4175050)
At least Kuroda's not fooling anyone. Kalish cranked that.
   44. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4175051)
Remember the Ichiro-style HR against CC? Me neither.
   45. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4175052)
This just feels so much like a 2-0, turn the wrists over, easy GDP.
   46. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:44 PM (#4175053)
Don't swing, Adrian!
   47. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:44 PM (#4175054)
During his 15-game hitting streak his ISO is like 120.
   48. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4175055)
That was actually a nice looking swing.
   49. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4175056)
Wall-ball? An extra-base hit? zomg.
   50. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4175057)
That too. He almost hit a HR!
   51. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4175059)
Adrian lives!

This game was pegged as the best pitching matchup of the series, wasn't it?
   52. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4175060)
Stunning. First XBH in forever.
   53. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:46 PM (#4175061)
I sorta think Ross has to score there.
   54. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:47 PM (#4175062)
This is like the longest first inning in history.
   55. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:47 PM (#4175063)
I sorta think Ross has to score there.
He must have misread it very badly.
   56. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175064)
That too.
   57. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175065)
ASSAULTALAMACCHIA AND BATTERY!!!!
   58. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175066)
OMG!!!

Ok, someone explain to me how to get a proxy server google twitter.
   59. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175067)
This is fun!
   60. JJ1986 Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175068)
Exciting game
   61. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175069)
Looks like an 8 hour game.
   62. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175070)
Who knew a pitcher could suck more than Beckett?
   63. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175071)
I think Ross was fooled by Granderson lining up like he was going to catch the ball on the warning track.

Holy ####### ####. Saltalamacchia!
   64. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175072)
Saltalamonkeyface!
   65. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4175073)
Going to be tough on the Boston New York bullpen if Beckett Kuroda only goes 1 or 2 innings, given the doubleheader tomorrow.
   66. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4175074)
Not saying Kuroda looks worse than Beckett - he doesn't - but did the Yankees get an extra-base hit in their half-inning?
   67. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:50 PM (#4175075)
Gomez is a large man.
   68. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:50 PM (#4175076)
Great play by Chavez, but handcuffed Tex again, who bailed him out.
   69. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:50 PM (#4175077)
http://mlbtvblackout.blogspot.com/2009/07/mlbtv-blackout-workaround-bypass.html
   70. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4175078)
Yeah, I agree with you guys that Ross was fooled but I felt like he shouldn't have been. The play was right in front of him and this is his home park.
   71. Joe Bivens, Minor Genius Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4175079)
Still, I repeat #16.
   72. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4175080)
I got online, saw it was 5-1, and by the time I got to game chatter ready to be all pissed off it's 5-5.

Baseball. Youneverknow.
   73. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:52 PM (#4175081)
"...thanks to the Red Sox offense and their not done yet! Here's Nick Punto..."

Oh, Don.
   74. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:53 PM (#4175083)
Wow, Jeter didn't move at all. I think he was physically rooted into the ground.

Hey, imagine if we kept Hanley and Anibel!
   75. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:54 PM (#4175084)
Sooner or later Martin/Punto comes up to put and end to the madness.
   76. Benji Gil Gamesh Rises Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:58 PM (#4175087)
So what's the official record for HR in a season by a Sox catcher? Fisk had 26 in both '73 and '77.
   77. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:58 PM (#4175089)
Thanks Dan. Going to get dinner out, then will try to proxy my googles.
   78. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 07:59 PM (#4175090)
I hate Josh Beckett so much tonight.
   79. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:00 PM (#4175091)
Seriously, #### off Beckett. I mean that.
   80. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4175097)
Uch, why are you trying to take second on that?
   81. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4175099)
#### you for getting thrown out at second Papi.
   82. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:10 PM (#4175100)
Nice hitting. Retarded baserunning.
   83. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:12 PM (#4175103)
Gonzalez shouldn't have a green light to swing 3-0 until he gets to at least 50 walks.
   84. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:13 PM (#4175105)
So, are the Yankee fans feeling the same hatred for their starting pitcher we are?
   85. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:13 PM (#4175106)
Why did Ortiz pause? He's in easily if he keeps going?
   86. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:13 PM (#4175107)
Kay must have referred to Valentine's "rock bottom" comment 27 times already in two innings.
   87. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:14 PM (#4175108)
@84--no. They're in first place. Their pitcher is a rental on a reasonably cheap deal. And they didn't deal a HOF + a top starter for him.
   88. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:15 PM (#4175109)
On Kay, is he the only TV guy who does a HR call? It seems so unnecessary and distracting when you can watch it happen in front of you.
   89. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:16 PM (#4175111)
What the hell is to be gained by running Beckett back out there?
   90. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:16 PM (#4175112)
Yeah, take that Yankees!
   91. Darren Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:17 PM (#4175113)
Would you pull him, Dan? To save his arm or because you think he will not do well?
   92. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:18 PM (#4175114)
Every TV guy does a HR call that I can think of.
   93. Randy Jones Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:18 PM (#4175115)
So, are the Yankee fans feeling the same hatred for their starting pitcher we are?

I am reading both this chatter and the RLYW chatter, so here you go:

No water for you.

No shower for Kuroda tonight.

Get Kuroda out of there.

Seriously, get Kuroda the #### off the mound.
   94. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:19 PM (#4175116)
I would pull him because I think he's a ticking time bomb. Though he seems to be proving me wrong at the moment.
   95. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:23 PM (#4175119)
Apparently Derek Jeter is a terrible human being.

We knew this, but it bears repeating.
   96. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:24 PM (#4175120)
That was one awful second AB by Gomez.
   97. Dan Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:24 PM (#4175121)
Darnell looks like he could be Cano's brother with the haircut and the Yankees uniform.
   98. Chip Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:25 PM (#4175123)
What is the latest evidence of Jeter's awfulness?
   99. King Berenger Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4175124)
I hope this inning symmetry lasts as long as possible.
   100. Jay Seaver Posted: July 06, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4175125)
98 - Apparently Jeter is the haircut enforcer for the Yankees, rendering Darnell MacDonald unrecognizable.
