Ciriaco did not look like an MLB second baseman on that play.

Hahahaha they're calling it a "cramp" in Gonzalez's shoulder? Yeah, and Lackey just had a bit of a cramp in his elbow last season.

The cramp talk was referring to Jeter's shoulder.

Oh ok. So the company line on Gonzalez is still "flulike symptoms"?

Their earlier stuff is also hit or miss for me.
I like "Feeling Good" off Origin of Symmetry and "Unintended" off SHowbiz, most of the rest, ehh.

That's as far as Sweeny can hit the ball. He's learned at the feet of AGonz.

What is that, 4 HR in the series for Andruw ####### Jones?
   207. Jay Seaver Posted: July 08, 2012 at 10:47 PM (#4176601)
Spent the weekend up north seeing my family. I was the only one who wasn't completely demoralized about the Red Sox.

Was.

Pixie dust wearing off for Atchison? He's definitely a trade candidate for me: Cherington needs to convince someone he's Larry Andersen—the middle reliever you just have to have to fill out your pen, and soon—because I have a feeling his second half is going to be a disaster.
   209. Dan Posted: July 08, 2012 at 10:51 PM (#4176605)
Atchison is definitely a fluke. He is an acceptable right-handed specialist, nothing more.

Not dealing him yet is going to be a huge mistake. He had value when he had the shiny ERA. Once that goes, he's have zero value.
   211. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:09 PM (#4176624)
I sincerely doubt that Atchison ever had value. As much as we love to think MLB GMs are morons there is a limit to just how far that stupidity extends.
   212. King Berenger Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:13 PM (#4176630)
What about his track record with the Tigers? Hanshin Tigers, that is.
   213. Chip Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:15 PM (#4176633)
I don't know, I think we need to aim for getting a Bagwell-type talent for him.

Maybe we can find a GM dumb enough to give us a switch-hitting power-hitting shortstop with a history of injury troubles for him. Nah, no one would be that dumb.

I honestly am blanking on who this could be... Rollins?

   216. Textbook Editor Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:28 PM (#4176645)
Oh... duh. Lowrie.
   217. Textbook Editor Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:28 PM (#4176646)
I'll leave 215 up as evidence of my decline phase.

Would that shortstop put up a .306 OBP for the last two months leading to the all star break continuing his career trend of having an awesome three weeks followed by sucking for several months? I know where we can find one of those.

Sounds like a guy who's .165/.280.282 over his last 100 PAs (and that's before his 0-3 with a walk today).

The guy they held onto to replace him with has a .280 OBP on the entire season. So Lowrie's OBP during his slump is better than Aviles's season OBP, and that's an argument that dumping Lowrie wasn't a poor move?

It's an argument that Lowrie is not that good.
   222. Dan Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:34 PM (#4176655)
Aviles over his last 160 PA: .252 OBP, .561 OPS

Yeah, but that's a healthy Lowrie. What's his OBP going to be when he gets rickets?
   224. Dan Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:36 PM (#4176658)
Lowrie has 2.3 WAR over half a season. If the Red Sox had more players who were "not that good", maybe they'd be in position to make the playoffs.
   225. Dan Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:38 PM (#4176659)
"carrying to the seats...and off the Monster on the fly"

Nice call, Shulman. Taking lessons from Don Orsillo?

Phooey.
   227. Dan Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:41 PM (#4176661)
That was a tease from Nava. Really thought that was going to at least get the wall for a double. Sigh.

Wind blowing in. Even Cano failed to hit one out that way.

Andruw Jones was a whisker away from 5 god damn HRs in 3 games.
   230. Jay Seaver Posted: July 08, 2012 at 11:52 PM (#4176673)
I don't dread seeing Aceves yet, but he's just no fun to watch these days. He spends a lot of time on that line between decent results and aggravating process.

Whoever compiled the scouting report on how to pitch to him should probably be fired.
   232. Chip Posted: July 09, 2012 at 12:02 AM (#4176678)
Papi once again makes up for Adrian's absence, this time by chasing a pitch over his head on 3-2.
   233. Chip Posted: July 09, 2012 at 12:04 AM (#4176679)
Valentine needs to run out and punch Punto in the face for swinging at that 3-1 pitch. His job is to take there until he can't.
   234. Chip Posted: July 09, 2012 at 12:04 AM (#4176680)
Should be bases loaded, no outs, tying run at the plate.
   235. Chip Posted: July 09, 2012 at 12:05 AM (#4176682)
Strike two to Ross was a ####### joke.
   236. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 09, 2012 at 12:10 AM (#4176684)
Salty in this series: 1-14, 10 K's (1 HR, 1 BB)
   237. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 09, 2012 at 12:10 AM (#4176685)
Three of four on the road is pretty good.
   238. Jay Seaver Posted: July 09, 2012 at 12:10 AM (#4176686)
Back to .500 and last place. Awesome.

I eagerly await whatever bizarre disasters come in the second half.
